My wife and I sopped in here after driving past here a couple of times. The mural on the window is actually what caught our eye and we figured wed give it a shot. We ordered a couple sushi rolls just to see what this place was all about Spicy Salmon Roll and Spicy Shrimp Roll. They were both sub par. The rice was too mushy and the salmon and shrimp didn’t taste fresh at all. There seemed to be onions in the rolls too amd it was almost too overpowering. The wasabi looked like it was just squeezed out of a toothpaste tube and it was lacking the kick we have come to expect out of our wasabi, and the soy sauce was way too sweet for my taste. So all in all it was a disappointment, but that was only the sushi. So I would not go back for that, but I would like to go back to try the Thai food or Chinese food. That is supposedly what they do well.

Ordered food for delivery, food came in approximately 20 mins which is great if you’re starving. But it posed questions on the freshness of the food. Ordered spicy Tuna roll, gross! Should be called a Green Onion Roll because when you bite down you get an overwhelming taste of spicy onion, Yuck Crab Rangoon were pretty standard, and can’t go wrong with shrimp fried rice. Wouldn’t order from here again.

I don’t understand how you don’t offer lunch special when you’re located between two main colleges. Other than that the environment inside was nice, Calm and relaxing.

Great little place. Super casual hole-in-the-wall type of place. If you like spicy, they can make you«cry» and«sweat» with the best of them. But if you are not into that sort of heat, they can dial it back no problem. Haven’t tried a whole lot of variety because I like what I like, and haven’t strayed from it in years. Though everyone I know that tries various dishes is always satisfied if not really happy. You place your order and pay upfront whether ordering«to go» or dining«in.» If you’re sticking around to eat, have a seat after you order. They bring your food to the table.

this is literally the worst sushi i’ve ever had in my life. i don’t know how this place has decent reviews, they must have sold their souls to satan. the rice is super mushy, it’s exactly like minute rice. the salmon was unlike any sushi i’ve ever had. i think they were using packaged cheap smoked salmon for salmon rolls, it made no sense. they hardly even put any fish in their rolls at all. OH and i found two short black hairs in my food… i couldn’t believe how bad this all was. i’ll be lucky if i don’t get food poisoning. just a grubhub order gone terribly wrong, and a complete waste of money. i ended up making myself some damn toast for dinner instead.

I’ve been enjoying the food at Rice & Roll for almost a year. I wasted a couple of years riding by the place thinking it wouldn’t be very good, because there’s nothing about the exterior of the restaurant that would lead you to believe that it’s not just another run-of-the mill Asian food joint. But don’t repeat my error! The beauty appears on the plates in the form of excellent Thai and Chinese food. They also serve some Japanese rolls, if that’s your thing, and these seem to be very popular because I see them ordered often when I’m there. As a result of living in Thailand for 3 years, I’m partial to the Thai offerings. The curries are great, along with the Pad Thai, Spicy basil leaves, Pad Woonsen, Vegetables Combo, and plenty of others. You can select what protein you want in your dishes, or go vegetarian. On the Chinese side, I’m very partial to the Pan Fried Noodles, and Orange Chicken. They also serve good appetizers and soups. They’ll adjust the«heat» to your personal preference, so if you like it spicy or you don’t, you’ve come to the right place. This restaurant is owned and operated by a very nice Thai family. They employ what I’d call an honest approach to running a restaurant. The food is all freshly prepared, the portions are more than ample, and the price is more than reasonable. This has been a great Chicago«food find» for me. I hope you feel the same.

I come here for lunch almost once a week, it’s close to my work. I have tried most of the appetizers, Thai, and Chinese dishes and have enjoyed them all. What I cannot speak to are the Japanese dishes. But this place has very good, well presented and reasonably priced food, which is why I keep coming back.

This place was really good! I got the Tom Kha soup to start. I subbed the meat for tofu and it was good! Not the best I’ve had, but I would have it again. I got the awesome roll, which was also good, and pretty large for only $ 9. For desert, I asked for strawberry mochi, but ended up with mango. No matter, it was still delicious. I would return here for some decently priced sushi.

I’ve had several menu items & plan to try more. I like this place & I pass it often so it’s easy to grab some carry-out on the way home. Sushi rolls are good, the thai dishes I’ve had so far have been yummy. It’s a nice atmosphere to sit & eat at the place. The service is quite friendly & the owner is often around.

This place is awesome! My cousin told me about this place so I decided to try it. He said their sushi was awesome and indeed it was. Had a great experience here. Walked in and the owner acknowledged me right away and applied a coupon towards my order that saved me three bucks. I was shocked, who likes to save you money these days. Afterwards, while I was waiting for my Godzilla sushi, the owner brought me and my friend free egg rolls. It was a nice gesture and felt that he really cared for his customers. Next, we got the sushi and was shocked at how big they were. The owner also checked in on us to make sure everything was perfect which was also really nice. We barely finished our food and had to take some to go. Fact of the matter is, this place is friendly, their sushi is great and it’s super cheap. Definitely a new classic for me and will defiantly be a repeat customer.

Flavorful, fresh and delicious food all cooked by the owner who was born in Thailand. It’s delicious — especially the Pad Thai and Miso soup. The food is really well priced — a great option for the two local colleges(North Park and NEIU). Their bubble tea is super fresh and delicious. The lunch specials are insane — great food and lots of it for less than $ 6.

This was my first experience at Rice N Roll and it was a carry-out experience. I called and ordered two orders of Salmon Rolls after viewing their online menu. My food was prepped in less than 10 minutes. I walked in and the cashier, owner I suppose after reading their«about» online, greeted me and knew I was there to pickup. My two salmon rolls totaled out to $ 10.93 average price for Sushi in the Chicagoland area, not too expensive, not the cheapest I’ve had. He then asked where I went to school, and gave me an instant discount of 10%, which lowered my total to $ 9.93. Honestly, the salmon rolls are one of the worst that I’ve had. I expected way more and do think they can do way better with their sushi. — The rice tastes like normal white rice and not sushi rice. — Each roll consisted of 6 pieces, but the pieces were small. — The salmon was thin, and doesn’t look or taste like any other salmon that I’ve had in a salmon roll, tastes like smoked salmon. — The avocado was the only good part.

Decent middle-of-the-road Thai, Chinese and Japanese food that is very inexpensive, and easily accessed by hungry NEIU students. Proximity and low price for the win. I was expecting their curries to have some spicy heat in them, but they were pretty bland, Americanized I guess. The Tom Kha soup tastes mostly like sweet coconut milk, missing the distinctive lemon grass and kaffir lime leaf tang that makes the soup so savory. Guys, add a second stalk of lemongrass, 5 more kaffir leaves and half a teaspoon of nam pla fish sauce and it’ll taste AMAZING. The thickness of the coconut milk is already perfect, you just need some citrus kick to make the soup really sizzle. The sushi was well-rolled, appropriately portioned and tasty, A+ on that! The veggies taste pretty fresh and the meat is pretty good quality too. Overall, the portions are a good bargain, they do nice lunch specials and are an all-around solid restaurant for comfort food.
