Imax

After a decade in Chicago I still hadn’t been to the Imax (I don’t see many movies) but an (expired) Groupon deal led me to try. The problem is that they just don’t play many movies that I would want to see there, too obnoxious. However the new 3D Everest was reportedly stunning in 3D so I tried and… loved it! The audience is both better behaved and the sound isolates you from others, making for a very individual experience with the film. Although I felt I died and went to my own funeral by the end of this film, I was taken on a very serious journey, now I never have to climb Everest myself again, this was a very detailed and (we hope) pretty accurate reconstruction. The floors were very sticky as I left the theater. Ticket selling lady seemed like she had the most miserable job in the world. They have pretty clear signs to help you find your seat. The sound and visuals were all immersive and powerful

Ran across this IMAX theater while we were exploring Navy Pier in Chicago. The theater itself is like any other.
Unless you are planning to spend the day at Navy Pier, the location of this IMAX is not very convenient. Like most of downtown Chicago, parking is expensive!
As far as the IMAX films, they are awesome and unique! Watching them at this particular location would not be my first choice.

Guest speakers will make me keep coming back for more.
IMAX is excellent at announcing events ahead of time. The convenience of ordering tickets online (for a fee) beats standing in line with the assurance of getting good seats.
JUPITER ASCENDING — needs to be viewed in 3D to fully experience the cinematography’s motion and flight of highs and lows. It feels like a roller coaster. Boarding and Roller Blading are back in vogue.
SPEAKER, SHANE LARSON — impressive! A professional astrophysicist who made his profession cool. You wanna be him! Knowledge. Speaks with certainty, honestly and clarity. You can find him at Adler, or teaching at Northwestern University.
SEATS — no cup holder.

Comme tous les IMAX, si le film s’y prête et n’est pas trop mauvais c’est à faire.

Bevor jedes 2te Dorfkino 3 D Filme im Angebot hatte, war das IMAX natürlich noch spektakulärer.
Wir haben dort HP gesehen, da macht 3D wirklich spaß. Die Tickets sind nicht gerade billig, trotzdem unbedingt sehenswert, insbesondere dann, wenn Chicago seinem Beinamen «windy city» alle Ehre macht.
Das Kino ist nicht herausragend, wenn man aber den Navypeer als «Gesamtkunstwerk» sieht, ist das IMAX eine schöné Ergänzung.
