There are many different kinds of people in the world. Some people like IHOP a lot. Some people like Waffle House. This place is for people who like Waffle House. Sure, they haven’t spent a lot of money on fancy menus or swanky condiments, but they more than make up for it in low prices on food, consistently good grub, and casual charm. You could roll up to Jeri’s in your PJs and get some good eats on and not feel self-conscious(if you’re like me and feel self-conscious about that thing anyway). The staff has always been super nice to me and my family when we visit, and I’ve never had anything to eat here that I didn’t want a bathtub sized amount with which to eat my way out. When my family from out of state visited, I brought them here; whenever we talk on the phone, they ask me if it’s still open because they want to come back. So, sure. You can find a place that looks nicer and has food that’s similar. But if you don’t want to pay that much, or if you don’t care much for pretension, come to Jeri’s and they’ll feed you right.

They now take cards, and they were unbelievably kind and nice to my somewhat-fragile mother, who was getting over food poisoning the last time we went. I love this place.

Ok, let’s be real. If a greasy spoon diner with good food and good service is what you are looking for then this is the place you need to go. We ended up here while we were waiting for our car to be serviced down the street on a VERY cold Sunday morning and I’m so glad we did. Had the corned beef hash and eggs, perfectly done, crispy hash and perfectly cooked over medium eggs. The hubby had an omelette(yes with American cheese) and a stack of pancakes. Not a bite left of either. The waitress was great and attentive. You just don’t find these places around anymore. Was just nice to have a good, CHEAP breakfast with great diner coffee. Will definitely be back to try the biscuits and gravy!

I’ve always pass by here in my way to work but never got the chance to stop in. Finally on my day off, I was able to give it a try since my sister’s boyfriend wanted to go here. Upon arrival you can have the option to sit in the booth or counter. There was 5 of us and they were very accommodating to getting another chair so all 5 is us can sit comfortably. It’s such a cute little diner and everything was so cheap. For the 5 of us, our meal came out to be ~$ 35, not bad. Service was excellent and food was decent. Just an average diner. What I really like was the hash browns and how they cooked it long enough to give you that crunch. I had French toast which was pretty simple and there was half a butter to each toast so they were not stingy on their ingredients.

A Chicago classic. Been going here since I was a kid and not much has changed. The patty melt is the best, great breakfast and open all night. This is really Chicago to me.

Awesome awesome AAAAAAAWESOME!!! My girlfriend and I lived in the area, we are there nearly every day– either for breakfast(most of the time), lunch, or late late night post drinking. The food is so great, it is so cheap, jukebox plays like 5 songs for $ 1 which is fun, they’re very friendly, ESPECIALLY if you go frequently. Became kind of a second home. Great diner type regular spot for anybody who isn’t a complainer

These kind of diners/greasy spoons are pretty plentiful. We see people coming and going from there all the time and finally made a visit. As expected, this place is no frills, old as heck and full of charming characters behind the counter. The little guy took it upon himself to change my sons glass of milk to a styrofoam cup with lid and straw – I never asked for the change, but was so appreciative because W’s little hands still tend to spill drinks. Our breakfast was basic – eggs, toast, sausage, pancakes. The eggs were perfectly over easy and the sausage was fresh and flavorful. Since we sat at the counter, I watched the cook make plate after plate of biscuits and gravy – that seems to be a popular choice and by the look of the dish, worth trying at our next visit. There are signs listing their fresh meatloaf, shakes and fresh pies. Framed pictures and newspaper clippings about the diner adorn the walls. Everyone was friendly and the price is right. No frills, basic diner food served promptly.

Still in here right now, and the server and cook are behind the counter using foul language, talking about their boss, and chattering about other staff members in a disdainful manner. Up until now I really liked this place but there is a line. Also, there is a certain volume that is appropriate to speak at and she frequently raises her voice past comfortable levels. She also loudly does the dishes and overall I found it very difficult to concentrate during my meal. It’s not necessary to throw things, bang around, and if you want to talk about your restaurant in a negative way, maybe don’t work there!

Jerri’s Rocks! All you yuppie douche bags who think they should get better products, and the people are too old or you walked into the diner DRUNK and didn’t like it, GOOD! Go somewhere else, this place has been doing fine without you for 45 years and the people from the neighborhood, the working class people(not the douche bags building million dollar homes) are fine with you not returning. Actually WEARETHRILLED! The reason you don’t like it is your whiny, spoiled brats and YOUAREMISSINGTHEPOINT! Why don’t you go to WAFFLES on Clark or in Lincoln Park and pay $ 47 for breakfast and tell me how great it is…(See my review of waffles). Jerri’s is a classic American Diner and is run by wonderful, salt of the earth people. And where do you get off bashing older people you freaking ass.

I came here in a drunken stoop-er and couldn’t handle it. I had the eggs, sausage, and hash browns at about 4am. The place was actually really crowded and there was 3 older folks working. The food was dripping with grease it made me sick to eat it. All of the condiments and maybe even food seemed to be from Aldi. The chocolate milk I got was syrup mixed into milk that wasn’t even mixed all of the way. I would rather eat other greasy food like McDonalds or Taco Bell before I think of wasting calories at this place again. YUCK!

If you are a patriotic American or a damned outoftowner hoping to experience a true all-American, authentic Chicago dining(and especially breakfasting) experience, this is your place. Sit at the counter and watch the grill man, a master artisan, at work. The best ham and eggs. For some odd reason, no grits.

Finally made it to Jeri’s! The bf and I had finished a late night gig,(around 2 am) were starving, and really didn’t want to cook. So we walked over to Jeri’s, remembering that it is open 24 hours. Jeri’s is your standard greasy spoon diner, and I really enjoyed it. At 2:00 am on a Saturday, the clientele consisted of us, a rowdy group of very drunk ladies, and a few single guys at the bar seating. The staff consisted of the cook and one waitress. The place was clean, and while not designer decorated, it has a certain kitschy charm. I ordered the corned beef hash with fried eggs, and the bf ordered a fried egg sandwich and a side of the«famous» ham-on-the-bone…mostly because we didn’t know wtf that was. The waitress was the best thing about the place. She was charming and equally attentive to all of the patrons. At one point during our meal, and homeless(looking…I don’t want to assume) man entered the diner and she treated him like any other customer, promptly bringing him a bowl of soup. The drunken women were shooting him dirty looks and she actually went over and asked if there was a problem, which was IMO a classy way of scolding them. The food was just what I expected. Corned beef hash from a can(which I happen to love) along with hash browns, perfectly cooked over-easy eggs, and a toast. The«ham on the bone» sadly did not include a bone of any kind, but it was a nice slab of good ham. And the prices can’t be beat. Really, it is insanely cheap. We will be back.

My favorite neighborhood diner. Down to earth servers who call you sweetheart and keep the coffee coming. No frills experience with good prices and good food. It’s small and cash only so don’t expect to go there with a big group of friends and credit cards, they do have an ATM inside though.

There’s nothing wrong with fancy brunch, but sometimes you just need a classic stack of pancakes or some biscuits and hearty gravy for cheap, without a ridiculous wait or the pressure to GTFO as soon as you take your last bite. This place hits the spot for classic diner breakfasts. I’ve head a couple non-breakfast options too, and I wouldn’t rate them as highly to be honest, but everything I’ve ordered as been as least pretty good, and breakfast is perfect. Cash only, but there’s an ATM inside. I appreciate that this is the kind of establishment that brings together people from all walks of life, which seems to be increasingly rare. Come as you are, leave full, happy, and not broke.

Ehhh. This place always has a weird smell every time I come in here and it feels a bit icky at times. Their food is nothing special, nothing you can’t make yourself. The price is a little bit pricey for the generic food that they cook. Also not a big fan of them using their bare hands to cook(saw the cook talk on her phone and wipe down the counter with a towel and went straight to cooking my bacon). However the bacon is good but wouldn’t come here that much because there are much better breakfast and diner places that cooks much better quality food. This is just a place to quickly grab a bite or if you’re lazy too cook :)

A great little diner, exactly what you expect. Great staff, that makes the experience all the more enjoyable. I love the comments complaining about the off-brand condiments.

The best part about this place is that it’s open 24 hours. I’ve rolled in many a time around 4am to enjoy the greasy salvation that is jeri’s. It’s just the best bang for your buck, no bs. Get an order of French toast for the table. Get a fried bologna sandwich with egg for yourself. Pay $ 5 for bliss.

I come here all the time! Usually on Tuesdays before work for some coffee and the egg sandwich. Jim, Rosie and Carlos are friendly and know me by name. It’s a typical diner so it’s nothing fancy but it’s all I really need in a spot to just sit and read the paper or organize my planner. My only complaint is there is a certain regular that comes in and he stinks so bad I usually move to the other end of the counter.

So you have to set expectations pretty low when you enter, but if you realize this is just an old school counter diner, nothing more you will be thinking clearly when ordering. Eggs and hashbrowns are a safe bet as is the patty melt with fries. Not sure I’d touch much else. The chili is really«out of the can» and nothing you couldn’t do at home with 10 minutes of time. You get reasonably good serving sizes for the money. Someone said in an earlier review that they hated paying for Aldi products and I have to agree. Buck up and get some name brand ketchup and other condiments. It just looks cheap.
