I would give 30 stars to Shannon if I could. She is not only simply good at what she does as a beautician, she is also very friendly and professional. Above all, she knows how to cut Asian hair. I had a few«American beautician» that I couldn’t have the hair cut I wanted even when I brought my fellow Japanese lady’s pictures from some fashion magazines. I, however, just needed to tell Shannon what I wanted by showing her my sister’s picture on my phone and described it a bit more in person. She took it from there and made it all happen. This was even a sweeter experienced for me after losing my old hair guy after working with him for more than a decade and almost gave up finding a new person in Chicago. Thank you, Shannon!

Shannon was great. I’ve lived in Evanston and now Lakeview since moving to the Chicagoland area and she gave me the best haircut that I’ve received here, hands down. She was very informative and personable. After receiving a haircut and style from her I received a lot of compliments. She will definitely be my go-to person when it comes to my hair from now on. I would highly recommend her.

Shannon is fantastic! After my former stylist moved to Miami, I tried a few options and could not find a good fit. She’s got my blonde looking natural and my cut just the way I like it. Plus, she’s friendly, knows how to listen and is just all around outstanding!

Grazie Shannon. I can now take off the hat. Your talent outweighs your patience and graciousness, but only a little. A true perfectionist and stellar businesswoman.

Shannon is seriously amazing. I came here after a bonafide hair DISASTER for color and a cut that would hopefully fix the terrible«Rachel»(no joke) this other salon had given me. I sit down and we start talking about what I want and I start to realize… Side swept bangs, bright red… I want your cut/color! That’s a good sign if ever there was one. First cut was short enough to get rid of the awful prior cut’s bottom layer, bangs looked bangin’, color was just what I asked for. Super important to me — she recognized that I truly need a lot of weight taken out of my hair if it isn’t going to look like a ‘fro. Next time I came in we tweaked the color to something you might see on a natural redhead. That was 9 weeks ago. No bang trim(even though she does them free in between cuts!) and they’ve even grown out cute! I had a woman seriously ask me, today, if this was my real hair color, and told me it was gorgeous. I have never, ever been this happy with a hair cut/color. I consider it just a bonus that she is as awesome to talk to as she is.

Shannon is very talented, and really personable as well. It’s always fun to go over there for a haircut, and I keep looking forward to it. Will definitely continue going there.

I can’t say enough about Shannon, she just really gets it. When I moved to Chicago 4 years ago, I was very worried that I would never find a stylist like the one that I was leaving behind back home. After following the suggestions of several friends and trying my luck up and down Oak Street, I was introduced to Shannon. She had just started as a new stylist for Lather on Montrose. I had a relationship with the owner thru a non-profit we were involved and he graciously introduced me to Shannon. She is a scissor master and doesn’t get angry with me when I dabble with at home hair color. She has a way of cutting hair that allows me to keep with my low-maintenance attempt of sleekness. I followed her to Roki Boki which is a very inviting space not far from Lather. They are always fully stocked with trashy mags and wine — both of which I have no qualms of indulging in when I’m sitting in her chair. I would recommend Shannon to anyone.

I followed Shannon from Lather over to her new location because does such a great job. I don’t require anything fancey, just looking for a good cut that will grow out well, and Shannon does a perfect job for me. Even better, my wife likes how my hair looks and thinks Shannon does a great job. She is easy to work with and does a great job, definitely worth giving her a chance to cut your hair.

One word for Shannon. Awesome. No wait, meticulous. Er, perfectionist. No, mind reader. Well crap that’s two words. Shoot, I can’t sum her up in one word but if I had to choose I’d probably go with fantastic! If you want a great haircut, or the perfect color, go to Shannon. I went in with long blonde hair, and I left with a short, dark graduated bob. And I LOVE it! I had been growing out my hair in order to donate it, so I figured if I’m chopping my hair off, why not go all out and go dark at the same time. As soon as I sat in the chair, it really was like Shannon was reading my mind. I told her I wanted to go short but try and keep as much length as possible. She immediately had ideas on what to do and we spent maybe 5 or 10 minutes talking through the cut and what would look best. This is a big change for a girl — I was cutting off 10+ inches and Shannon got that. No rushy rushy lets get going with her. She took the time to explain the cut we’d decided on and made be feel really comfortable with it. Then we moved on to color. I told her about an actress whose color I liked and she pulled out the swatch book and immediately zoomed in on the perfect color. It was exactly what I had pictured in my mind, eerily so! I also wanted to be sure that there was dimension to the color and that it wouldn’t just be one block of boring, so we talked through what the highlights should look like. I really like color that looks like it could be natural(none of that piecy, stripey, obvious highlight stuff for me). Shannon knew exactly the look I was going for and again, took the time to explain it to me. By the time we got started, I had probably been in the chair for 15 – 20 minutes. I’ve never had a stylist before who really took that kind of time to listen and talk through what I wanted the result to look like. The end result was amazing. The cut is super cute and she really cut it in a way that will be easy to style, which was a must for me. And the color. The color turned out gorgeous… this really rich auburn with just a hint of some caramel highlights mixed in. In fact, before she’d even got done washing my hair one of the other stylists was already commenting on how pretty the color was going to be. It made me a little giddy(c’mon — what girl doesn’t love hair compliments!). The space is also really calming and inviting. It made the whole appointment feel really relaxed. I am just thanking my lucky stars I stumbled across Shannon at Lather and that she stayed in the area when she left there. She’s the best!!!

I used to go to Lather and have Shannon style and cut my hair, but now she left Lather and opened her own little shop in the Roki Boki Art Salon. Her prices for the haircut has remained the same with the move and she’s affable as ever. I went there recently and as usual, had a great haircut. But the atmosphere is SO much better. The ambiance is warm and quiet, it doesn’t have the florescent tinge prevalent in Lather. The space is much more open and has a good loft vibe with lots of wood, large windows and french ubiquitous prints. With only 3 stylists so far and only Shannon and one other were present when I went, I feel that I’m not a number waiting to be finished. Three great things, the shampoo basin doesn’t strain the neck; they serve wine(along with water or juice); and its walking distance from where I live. Highly recommended.

Yes, the rumors are true! Shannon has left Lather and is striking out on her own, in a gorgeous sunny loft(hidden behind an ugly industrial door… don’t let the building intimidate you!). I met Shannon six months ago when my mother handed me her credit card and demanded I go get«a big-girl» haircut for my 30th birthday. Apparently she was tired of seeing me show up with grocery store color and bangs I trimmed myself. At the time, my hair was a disaster, growing out from last fall when I disastrously decided I would look awesome with black hair. Er… not so much. So I rolled into Lather and asked for highlights, lowlights, whatever it would take to blend my natural color into the weirdly growing-out black and make me look, as my mother requested, like a grownup. A few hours later, I had supermodel hair. Shannon is some kind of genius about color and I’m still marveling over how awesome she made my hair look. And! Because I am very lazy about my hair, I can tell you that the highlights grew out SOBEAUTIFULLY that six months later the color still looked really good, without an obvious line between roots and color. Thank god Shannon decided to stay in the neighborhood, though after the gorgeous color treatment she gave me today, I’d follow her to the farthest suburb.

I followed Shannon from Lather to the new salon and I’m so glad I did. I had never been in the building before so I walked slowly through the maze taking it all in. When I walked into the salon I was greeted by a trendy, open loft. The atmosphere was very relaxing and they played great music(yea Arcade Fire!). Shannon was amazing as always. I gave her my input and she in turn gave me her expert opinion. The end result was better than I had imagined. I am attempting to grow my hair out and Shannon actually made me love the«in-between stage». If you haven’t booked your appointment yet, do yourself a favor and call her now.
