Really there are just so many places where you can better food, better service, and a nicer atmosphere.

Ordered yaki yaki noodles and it’s microwaved… very greasy and soggy… I will definately never go back there again. Can’t review for the sushi because I never tried.

Ordered the chicken udon with a sake one piece on the side. Great value and quality for the price. 3 stars or less reviewers should go to Clinton & Monroe for the worst udon in the city…

Perfect to grab a quick tasty lunch while at work! Prices aren’t bad and wait time rarely takes more than 2 min. I’ve had a number of different types of sushi and bowls here and have never been disappointed!

Best Bang for your Buck: Order a bowl(Teriyaki or Curry) for $ 6.50 which comes with Miso soup and get a Tuna or Cucumber roll for $ 2.50. Plus you add Free water and call it a full stomach kind of day. I’ll pop in here every 3 weeks for Lunch. The line moves average-fast and they always have special maki rolls for fair price. Enjoy!

Fast, friendly, and tasty. The only three criteria that needs to be met for my lunch break. I love their sushi combos as well as their curry rice bowls.

My fav lunch spot during work! I try to avoid the lines by getting there at least 10 min before noon. Super busy noon-12:45. I like their teriyaki rice bowls with beef. It’s only $ 8! And it comes with miso soup! The bowl includes let’s of yummy veggies as well. You could also get chicken instead of beef. Their curry bowls are also pretty good. Also $ 8 including tax. You could also get brown rice with like $ 1 extra. They also have sushi but I’ve never tried that there. The reason I reduced the stars from 5 to 1 is that I got food poisoning from here on Monday. I got my usual beef teriyaki rice bowl, so maybe something went wrong with the beef. Don’t think I’m going back ever again :(

This place has very good and reasonably priced curry bowls. For about $ 7.50 you get a decent sized bowl of curried chicken or beef with vegetables over rice and a cup of miso soup. The curry has just the right amount of heat. All in all a great value for a quick Loop lunch. The restaurant is clean and the service is generally quick. I know some other Unilocalers have complained that the service is slow. I suspect that is the case at every lunch counter in the Loop at noon when you order off the menu. I estimate that the usual wait time for a curry bowl is 3 to 5 minutes from the time you order. The sushi is above average but nothing to write home about. Given the quick service counter nature of the restaurant the sushi exceeds expectations.

I don’t pretend like I’m a sushi expert or that I’m into all the crazy exotic kinds. I usually get the shrimp spicy crunch roll and crab spicy crunch roll. A wimpy order, but I like it. It’s a solid choice when I want something lighter, and it’s right next door to my office. Prepare to spend at least $ 10 for a meal — this isn’t the Dollar Menu. For the 12 pieces I usually get, it’s about $ 12. Sidenote: Twice I’ve ordered ahead on Grubhub and gone to pick it up. The wait time is always crazy — like over an hour. And they always have my order in like15 minutes. I’m not sure who the issue is with, but I stopped doing that when I realized my food had been sitting there for a while and I could just as easily go order it there and wait a few minutes.

I came here for lunch on a Friday and it was pretty packed… probably looked really packed because the restaurant is small. most employees just come here to grab food to go. I would recommend that you call ahead or fax your order so that it’s ready when you arrive. Food: Spicy Tuna Deluxe(~$ 5): it was ok. it reminded me of the days that I would buy sushi when I lived in the dorms… so if you’re looking for something amazing. I wouldn’t recommend it… it’s pre-made so that probably makes it not as fresh as well. Portions: not too filling for the Spicy Tuna Deluxe. Customer Service: they were nice, not rude or anything… but not sure if I would say excellent since they are soo busy they probably don’t have time to really provide that… Wait time: is maybe like 10 – 20 minutes depending on what you order… CALLAHEAD to avoid wait time… Parking: street parking somewhere if you can find any. preferable method of transportation would be walking… I probably wouldn’t come here again… unless friends really really really wanted to…

One of the better sushi spots in the Loop for lunch. It can be a bit expensive compared to some of the other sushi spots in the Loop, but the sushi will definitely remind you more of a sushi spot in your hood verses a Loop sushi spot. The Udon with beef or chicken will definitely blow away other competitors. You actually get big chunks of delicious meat compared to particles of meat at other Loop sushi spots. I would totally prefer a sushi location in my neighborhood, but if you are hankering for sushi during your lunch hour… you are better off coming to Kamehachi café.

I went here for lunch because I a) didn’t have time to pack my lunch and b) I had a craving for peanut dressing. Their menu was small, which I appreciate, especially coming from a Japanese place. They did not have the salad with peanut dressing(bummer!), so I decided to go with the curry beef. When I tore into it at my office, I bit into a gristly piece… then another… I had to maneuver the beef around to avoid all the gristle. Half way through my meal, I decided that the pink inside was not marinade, but raw meat; yuck! Stir Fry deserves to be well-done. The flavors aside from the curry were non-existent. The rice was over-cooked and the other textures were muddled. The portion was perfect for lunch, though. Meh, I don’t think I’ll go back.

I very enthusiastic ‘Meh’. That about sums up their sushi. I had their Summer spicy special which consisted of 2 spicy maki rolls for around $ 10. Cheap considering, but the rolls were small and I was hungry again later in the afternoon. :-( Come here only if you have a full stomach

Fast, friendly, and quick. Service is excellent here. The best thing here is the vegetable curry, a gravy-like curry with loads of carrots, potatoes and the like. Nicely filling, my mouth is watering just writing this. The Kamehachi rolls are good, and I also like getting the Spicy Combo, with a Vitamin Water on the side. There’s a small amount of seating inside this location, but plenty of seating in the building, or take your sushi out on the lawn when the weather gets nice!

I’ve tried this place twice so far, with the first time being the curry and the second time around being the bento box. Having said that, stick to the curry. The steak teriyaki bento box had a great deal of fluff to it with very little substance to it. They give you a whole lot of edamame and enough rice while cutting back on the sushi and teriyaki beef that goes into it. The sause that comes with this made for a very sticky and messing experience having it come on the side in a container rather than poured or made with the beef. The gyoza had almost a feel to it that it was store bought with the sauce provided with it not adding but perhaps subtracting. The overall experience of the bento box was a mishmash of what they had available slapped together for a price that is seemingly unjustified even in downtown. It almost enrages me to have bought the bento box when there are better options for bento boxes a block away and even better if you’re willing to walk 5 blocks down. To put it at best, the curry is the only redeaming factor to this shop and is perhaps the only barrier preventing me from sinking the stars below the average rating. The sauce was thick and filling with the carrot and potatoes, even though being rather large, was nicely cooked being tender and flavorful. This is the only thing I’ll ever buy from here, though after having learned to make curry properly, sadly from a box, I don’t think I’ll have a curry itch this place can scratch for much longer.

If your sushi craving is gnawing at you during lunchtime around the Loop area, I’d say, ‘wait till dinner’. I’m leery of any type of ‘fast-food’ sushi. But if you must, Kamehachi(sushi café, as they call this spot), is probably a cut above every other fast-sushi places in the Loop. With prices to match too. That said, let’s talk about their hot food instead. Kamehachi serves glorious rice and noodles bowls. Rice bowls come in either teriyaki or curry formats. Noddle bowls are either udon(soup), or yaki yaki(stir fried). Protein options include beef, chicken, salmon, and veggie. Take the teriyaki bowl for example. It is a very healthful, satisfying lunch. Ingredients are cooked separately, and then assembled to order. The salmon teriyaki(at $ 7.75 after tax), has the most luscious fast food salmon I’ve had anywhere. Lightly grilled, very moist meat. Teriyaki sauce is always served on the side. You have a choice of white or brown rice. Steamed veggies will vary depending on what is available(red or yellow peppers, zucchini, broccoli, asparagus, bok choy). A cup of miso soup also accompanies the bowl. A very good deal. It is a tiny place, and at peak time during the lunch crush, it could take a while before your food is ready. Be forewarned. Why 3 stars? When you crave hot Japanese food for lunch, Kamehachi can’t be beat.

Kamehachi café is awesome. This is the best place for sushi at lunch in the loop. The only drawback is the price, but it’s totally worth it. Expect to spend at least $ 10 for a meal. If you’re feeling a bit cheap, the curry bowls w/miso soup at $ 6 are also excellent(and very filling). The beef curry bowl is my favorite, and is perfect when feeling a bit under the weather.

Hi, my name is Mary and I’m a sushi whore. I love sushi, I can’t get enough of it. I was so excited when I saw that this place had opened in the loop. It’s close to my school and where I work, which is a bonus. My favorite dish — double spicy combo. 6 rolls each of spicy salmon and spicy tuna goodness. And bonus they don’t skimp on the fish either. This location is not as good as my Old Town favorite — limited hours, selection and some pre-made rolls, but it is still oh so good. Side note, the building this place is in has a nice little lawn so when the weather is nice you can enjoy your sushi on the grass. If you come on the right day you can chase your sushi lunch with a sweet treat from the farmer’s market that sets up there.
