I thought this place was pretty good. Our friend is from Colombia and loves this place, so that must be saying something. In my opinion, I was not as impressed by a lot of the stuff bc I just didn’t think the steaks were that great, but the empanadas were quite good and the portions were plentiful. In addition, be sure to try many of the Colombian drinks they have(non-alcoholic in this case).

I knew it was going to be a challenging evening when we walked in for a birthday dinner and salsa lessons were kicking off. I can deal with the fact that my initial drink order was a little difficult to get straight but dinner was a total fiasco. When the food came out the waiter tried to convince us that the skirt steak ordered by half of our party was the same thing as the butterflied NY strip that was mistakenly brought out(who you gonna believe, me or your lyin’ eyes?). When reviewing the bill we noticed that we were charged for dishes that we were told we were served but in fact never received. The food itself was fine but if you can’t be sure you will get what you order I am probably going to stay away until they work out the kinks.

Came on a Saturday evening very busy.(7pm-10pm) Price:$$$ RSVP needed if a large party is gathering. Food: was ok. Party of 6. Didn’t wait long for the food. Or the appetizers. Drinks were great. Wait afterwards was bad. We had to wait for some drinks for 10 minutes. I ordered the octopus. Super salty. Others ordered the steak. Great Service: decent. Besides the wait. Live music: excellent. Live band this Saturday. Cumbias and salsa. Very nice. Place: amicable Atmosphere: ok Parking: paid. On street. They play happy birthday for you. If its tor birthdate.

We came here on a Saturday date, and had an awesome surprise. The steak was delicious(entrana and matrimonio are so yum!) and at 8pm they had a live band playing great music so we got to dance and enjoy a great atmosphere. Our waiter was attentive, the food was great, and we were pleasantly surprised by the great atmosphere and music.

I haven’t been at this place for 10 years but the taste of the food is still the same. Sooooooo yummy. We order the combination for 2 which has the steak, chicken, sausage, pork. the meat are so juicy esp. the steak. The 3 sauces on the side which are all good but my favorite is the spicy green salsa. The sides are good too like the bananas, yuca, potatoes. For our appetite, this combination could be shared by 3 to 4 people depending on how hungry you are. We also ordered the empanada sampler which has 2 cheese, 2 chicken and 2 beef empanadas. All three kinds of empanada are really good and tasty. Pricewise it’s kinda pricy, about $ 27 per person without drinks. It is soooo worth it though. Customer service? The waitress is a little bit uptight. The place wasn’t that busy though since we went lunch time.

Please do not ever do business with them as they are very unprofessional; they do not reply, follow through or value a musicians time. Do not bring your business here.

This place has gone drastically down hill. I used to eat here all the time, and then it kinda just fell off my radar. But I saw they were on grubhub now and got excited and ordered that night. The steak was terrible. Flavor was still great but, without any exaggeration, it was the worst cut of steak I have ever been served. The bulk of it was fat or cartilage. Through out the whole thing there were think lines of inedible fat. The potato was not flavored. At all. Period… Yeah yummy(not). Plantain had something wrong with it. Had a funky flavor to it, not sure if it was cooked after something else or was just bad. Coconut flan, one of my favorites here usually, while still tasted amazing, was not set. When it arrived the whole bottom part was like pudding. It did not even hold its shape. Like, seriously? Just say you’re out of it. I mean one mistake fine, but there was something wrong with every single thing on my plate. Should have just kept it off my radar!

Came here for my husbands birthday and was disappointed with the food and the customer service They were Over priced The empanadas were a joke if that’s what you want to call empanadas. We had to get up and serve ourselves more water as the waiter failed to come back around and fill our glasses Not coming back here unless somebody pay’s for my meal lol

Not what I expected at all. Restaurant holds a classy and elegant esteem with an atmosphere to match. Service was spectacular and the food was delicious. I had the Matrimoño; a steak and chicken combo served with potatoes and yuca. It was absolutely delicious! Will definately be back again soon.

My teller at Chase down the street recommended this place when i mentioned I was hungry. I have never had Columbian food before, and so the menu was a bit intimidating. The staff was very nice once they realized I had sat down for lunch. I had the steak lunch special. The steak was perfect– well seasoned, rare to medium rare(the way I like it), juicy and delicious. The salad was a bit lack luster, and I would have had on a different plate so it didn’t mingle with the hot food. The fried plantains were excellent. It was a belly filling lunch for $ 10. I recommend this place for ethnic food, and their commitment to airing all the soccer matches.

We ordered: Drink — A bottle of mMalbec — delish /alcohol was reasonably priced Appetizers — Empenada Sampler — they were rubbery and over cooked — Chicken Rellano Arepa — best(non chocolo) arepa I’ve ever had and my friend agreed, very fresh to order, savory, and moist — Grilled Octopus — it was the baby verison of octopus, beyond rubbery and no flavor besides the grill taste

GREAT food and EXCELLENT service. Love the live entertainment. Empanadas are LIFE and made to order. Chimichurra(I hope I spelled right) sauce is the best I’ve ever had. The pork chops are as well. Seasoned to PERFECTION. Every steak I’ve had from there should be served to me in Heaven when I go. I love this place. My whole family does. 5 year customer!!! Will see A LOT more of us.

I’ve lived around the corner from here for several years before actually trying it. I was hesitant with the mixed reviews but I will say it’s not the best tapas place I have been to. It’s just okay. I don’t think you get for what you pay for considering their menu is on the higher side. We got the beef empanadas and the skirt steak which were both not horrible but definitely did not stand out. The waiter was really nice and seemed to be serving us just fine until the end. We must have waited over 45 min for the check and he kept coming by our table but just didn’t seem to notice every time we tried to gesture that we were ready. Overall I would save yourself the trip but if you’re desperate for a mediocre meal then go for it. OH and note the original location is BYOB(on lincoln) the portage park location is NOT. Boo! :( Also, you’ll have to pay for parking. If you don’t mind a good walk try down Milwaukee BEFORE the portage theatre by family dollar.

I love Las Tablas but over time the quality of the service and food has gone down, especially at this location. Our family loved coming here for New Years Eve as it was a special event that many people from the community came to. There is always a flat fee for the evening, which included a three course meal, drinks and a glass of NYE champagne. Unfortunately, the last two years here have been a bust. The champagne is getting cheaper/distasteful, and the portions and options for the three course dinner are almost non-existent. I thought this might have been just for the particular night, but I’ve noticed over time that the portions in general have gotten smaller, and the service continues to lack. I will say, the abborajada here is off the chain.

The Good: The Salmon, The grilled Shrimp, the Asparagus, Friendly waiter. The Mediocre: Grilled Baby Octopus — It tasted more like the gas from the gas grill than anything else, plus, one was undercooked and almost raw, the Prices were about average for this type of food. The Bad: Constantly had to ask for water — when a customer drinks a lot of water, just LEAVETHEDAMNPITCHERONTHETABLEIFYOUDON’T WANTTOBEBOTHERED! The place only had 12 patrons total… the manager or owner was sitting at a table in the back effing around on his laptop. Typical of an uninterested manager or owner. Good management checks on tables while the wait and bus staff do their jobs — if you don’t want to interact, then watch your porn in the back office! Empanadas Combo appetizer — Greasy as hell — minimal cheese — suggestion? Use a different batter and different oil, and DRAINTHEMON A PAPERTOWELORSOMETHING. Add a little more cheese than a teaspoon while you’re at it. Table was sticky and dirty — if you don’t want to wash the tables, then put down table clothes so our arms don’t stick to the table top. Time between ordering food and arrival at the table — took FOREVER! Again, there were only 12 other people in the entire restaurant. After ordering 3 drinks, the waiter asked at the end of the meal; «would you like anything else, another drink perhaps?» You would think the waiter would have offered a free one after ordering 3… Took forever to get the check because the waiter was talking on the phone… and the place only had 12 diners total, but I already said that 2 times. My chances of returning to this location? Highly unlikely. Maybe the Lincoln Ave. location is better, but this place? Hell to the no!

Oh wait, have I not reviewed this place yet??? 2 words: SKIRT. STEAK. They seriously have the BEST skirt steak there is in Chicago! For reals tho. It’s really hard to make awesome skirt steak because it tends to get a little chewy if you don’t cook it right, but it’s super tender, juicy and flavorful here. I can’t wait to come back again and eat it! Definitely recommend that you come here to try it. And another great thing is that it’s BYOB! I guess it’s Mon-Thur only, but hey. Better than nothing.

I would like to give 2.5 stars but Unilocal isn’t that advanced yet! I came here last night with my husband and a friend of his who drove in from Cleveland. Great job, Mariel! The place was extremely loud and there was a live band playing as if we were at a street festival. I asked the hostess if this would be going on all night and when she said yes I should have darted out. I asked for a seat in the corner furthest from the band and we were tended to right away. The first of our the waiters brought us water. The second suggested their caipirinha cocktail which I’m very familiar with. A simple cocktail that calls for lime and sugar. However ours came out with a strong taste of artificial sweeteners. Our third waiter helped with selecting our food. Really. three waiters? The Chicken Empanada was amazing. There were pinto beans inside which surprised me. Queso Arepa which was extremely dry. For my entrée I chose Skirt Steak with a salad and White rice w beans. Half of my steak was a perfect medium and the other half was bone dry. My salad was a bit limp the tomatoes had that mushy texture. Gross! The rice was great, beans a bit under seasoned but the tough, salty steak made up for that. My husband’s food was great but I’ll leave him to do his review on his Catfish entrée.
