My last visit here was a bust. I was super excited to take my friends to what had been my favorite local bakery, but everything i got this time tasted stale. Unsure if I got there at a bad time this time– but inconsistency is definitely a downer. The Danish pastries are usually great as is Everything else I tried the first several times I came here. Oh but The donuts are awful– they taste like someone frosted a dense croûton.

Grab your personal basket and tongs to make your selections from the cashier. The croissant and the pineapple pastries were the standouts on the sweet side. For savories you have to wait until the weekend when they have Guatemalan tamales and chili relleno — those were immense. No labels on most of the pastries so if you like surprises this place is for you!

Just great… in my hood, fabulous! 24hr. what! Loving it. Small space with lots of breads, sweets and treats. Nice ladies behind the counter and the best part was the price. 6 items 3.50…come on, tell me how not to love this place.

I go here for my torta bread, which is fresh and fluffy and amazing. Then sometimes I’ll get a churro, which is also fresh and fluffy and amazing. Rating: Fresh and fluffy and amazing.

Giant cookies for, I think, 65cents! The flan and tres leches were also super yummy. I get the urge to stop there all the time since everything is so cheap… Highly recommended!

Thank god for this place! Recommended by a friend with delicious pictures I had to check this place out. They bake fresh 24⁄7. What more could you ask for? The cheese Danish, Conchas and bolillos are on point. I’m so happy to find such an awesome bakery close to my house. Will definitely be back, all the time.

Who could have guessed the best latin bakery of the city would be hidden in this modest spot? Who could have guessed the best latin bakery is owned by a Greek guy? Who could have guessed they would be open 24⁄7 and work a like sweat-shop for your urgent late night carb needs? Who could have guessed the best churros in the city is actually made here? Who could have guessed you can buy a huge Flan cake-high quality here for the price of two cheesecakes in Starbucks? Now let’s come to the facts. Yes this is a good bakery and they have good products. There are some cons of course. If you want to get a churros, you have to be early. they never last. Of course for their price range you can not expect gourmet french patisserie products. I read some reviews here written by true ignint duchebgs. Yes not ignorant but ignint! For the price and quality no other bakery can beat Markellos, for those stupid critics here please stay in Lakeview and Andersonville and keep paying 5 – 6 $ each for your penny size pastries then be happy then come here and say they were yummy.

Very friendly service. I contacted this business by phone to inquire about their baked pastries and the service and friendliness I received was highly commendable. Highly recommended for all of your bakery needs!

Open 24 hours and fresh for longer. I walked out with a week’s worth of baked goods for less than $ 5, and it proved to be the best impulse trip for my roommate and I in the middle of the night. There’s surprise filling in half of the items I bought, but they were all pleasant surprises. Grab a brownie for the road, stock up on croissants for breakfast, and fill your basket to the top with other treats you don’t need to justify to yourself.

Dear Markellos, You’re the pillar of my beloved neighborhood, Albany Park, which I’m proud to call home. Your dedication to produce amazing pastries, 24/7, is my elixir for my ongoing insomnia. Why are you so awesome? Tell me why, Markellos! You fed me and hubby’s cousin for $ 6.80. What a pastry heaven that we’ve just experienced! While I’m not proficient with some of the names of Mexican bread, I’m confident that no matter what I’ve picked, it will be delicious without a doubt. I will be back like a terminator, Markellos. See ya soon… P. S. We had six(6) items for $ 6.80 after tax. I’m good now for the morning. Bring cash as it’s a cash-only establishment.

So I decided to go early and check out the place in a different time in the day… GLAD I DID ! I got couple cookies, odds and ends and yummy flan. I even got tamales. wrapped in banana was heavy on the account of most of it was masa and little meat but delicious never the less! Definitely advise newbies, to check it out!

How have you not ever heard of this bakery? Get in the car. Yes, right now. I know it is 11:00pm– now! lets go! I am a textbook insomniac… Don’t sleep much and may be incapable of sleeping an entire night. Thus, it is not unusual to find me awake at 1, 2, 3:00am. It is however, unusual for me to find a place that welcomes anyone at those odd time intervals and serves delicious carbs! Weekends can be interesting. It is even more unusual to find a place open at 5:00am before Boyfriend’s Saturday 6:00am competitive swim group(yup) or has something he enjoys eating– tamales? Not my choice for breakfast but he is all over it. Turnovers are delicious. Banana Bread? Yum! Try it. Cash only. Worth going to an ATM at two am to obtain cash, promise.

The cream filled pastries are good, but don’t buy the cookies, they have a really strange taste to them.

If you grab the baked goods fresh from the rack, this place is absolutely spot on and delicious. Otherwise the breads can stale out. It’s so cheap though and they’ve been here forever. I can always count on this place for a quick breakfast pastry. Bless them for being open 24 hours.

24 hour bakery? SIGN.ME.UP. The real reason I go to Markello’s is because of their Guatemalan tamales(only available on weekends). I mean, I can’t wait until Christmas to get my tamale fix from my mom, so I go there. The tamales are pretty good, they could use more meat, though. But they also have my favorite Guatemalan bread(and I use the term loosely, it’s more like a cookie), champurradas. MMMMM, dip them in milk – that is, if you can make it home without eating them all first. They also have empanadas(no, not the savory kind, they are stuffed with this amazing coconutty filling), another favorite. Other than the fact that they’re 24 hours, the best part is the smells of the fresh bread and peeking into the back and seeing the bakers baking! Why are you still reading this? Go get some bread!!!

Excuse me? Did that storefront actually say ‘Open 24 Hours’? Holy ish. My friends and I walked in at 9pm to the comforting aroma of freshly baked goodies. There were sheets and sheets of piping hot, freshly baked bread. And it smelled soooo good. For those with a sweet tooth, there’s a billion cookies, muffins, churros, elephant ears, cakes, etc. to choose from. If my friend didn’t stop me, I probably would’ve bought everything in there. You grab a basket and some metal tongs… and off you go! It was BUSY at 9pm, too. No surprise, I guess. On weekends, they sell tamales. Believe me — I’ll be back for that. So, 2 churros, 1 chocolate covered elephant ear and 1 muffin cost a grand total of $ 3.40. Albany Park, you are amazing!
