Menards

Whatever happened to common courtesy? My grandmother always taught me to speak to people and polite. When you work in retail, you get paid to do it. Not the case at this location. I had associates walk right past me without even a simple «hello» or «do you need and assistance?» 10 count it 10 people including a supervisor walked past me as I shopped. The only exception was a young lady (Maria) and the cashier (Samantha). Needless to say I will not return to this store. I would rather travel to Melrose Park.

I ordered bifold doors and when they arrived there was a hole in the cardboard and a 2 inch square hole in the hollow core door. I informed Menards by email and was told they would check with the vendor for a solution. After a month of waiting they have not responded. I would not use them again.

Avoid on-​line purchases from this company. The return policy makes it impossible to return an item. Worse: if you are buying a system (in my case a chimney where the parts must match), then discover you need a simple part to complete the system, you’re going to be told — you have to come to the store to get that. the stores are ½ a continent away. A bad on-​line shopping experience

I love this place. There are some very knowledgeable employees in this store but not the teens or younger employee that they tend to hire cannot provide guidance of where certain things are located. The hardware manager knows everything, she is awesome. The guy in heating cooling is also helpful and very informative. The store is generally well stocked and very clean. I tend to shop here over their competitors.

I placed an order online to pick up in-​store and was notified by email that one of my items was unavailable but that the rest of the order was ready for pick up. However, when I arrived only one of the 4 items I ordered was given to me. The rest had been sold. I was highly bothered by this seeing as how I had prepaid for these things and they were supposed to be put on hold for me. I can say that the gentleman who was assisting me was beyond helpful and even double checked the inventory to make sure my items weren’t overlooked. I sent a follow-​up email asking if perhaps the items were sold before I placed my and never received an answer. While the associates at this locating are very helpful, I feel as though this mix-​up was swept under the rug once my money was returned.

I called this menards a few times today and I get a busy signal Its a good that there are a few menards nearby

this store is clean but they have no service people that really can help you.

A couple of years ago I purchased a house in a nearby neighborhood and this Menards has been my go-​to location for several home improvement projects. I’ve gotten everything here: ceiling fans, dog toys, bird seed, a toilet, plants, patio furniture… you get the idea.
This is the only place in Chicago that carries my favorite Sprecher soda and I’ve made special trips here, just for that.
The workers are helpful and the prices are better than their competitors. It is clean and well stock. I’m a fan!

This menards is pretty much like any other hardware store out here. It’s clean,.the workers have Good attitudes and are very helpful. You can go in, get what you want and then go about your day. There is hardly ever a line or wait for anything and that’s what I like most about going here. I would recommend this place to everyone!

I Like this Menards… NOT that they aren’t all the same merchandise wise, but this one is always stocked with everything I need, and the staff is helpful. The prices are a little higher than places like Walmart, but you can actually find staff to talk to when you need help, and they know what they are talking about. Also, they have registers and people are manning them so you don’t have to wait forever when you’re ready to leave.

As far as big house project centers go this one just shot to the top. Big loud shout out to Amber who seemed to be orchestrating everything from the front desk. We started a patio project and she was super friendly and accommodating to us. Even the guy on the forklift was super helpful. Huge thumbs up on customer service here. Double for Amber. We will be back. Keep hiring people who are good with people.

The bonus: This Menards is H-​U-​G-​E, and has a play area in the middle of it, so while my partner is wandering around in some someday-I’ll-tear-down-a-wall-or-build-a-deck fantasy world (boring!) I can take my child to «the park» and 2 out of 3 visitors are having a great time. Also, Home Depot has dubious politics, so in my own fantasy world I like to think that spending my money here makes a difference somewhere.
The terrible: We ordered a BOATLOAD of lumber from them (not cheap!) and arranged to have it delivered. Not only did they come 3 hours after the promised time range, but they refused to put the lumber in our backyard, leaving it in the alley instead. When my partner called to ask that they come back and finish the delivery, the guy on the phone actually started yelling, saying we didn’t tell them it was supposed to go somewhere their forklift wouldn’t fit. Huh? We aren’t really sure how we were supposed to know we needed to ask about that, considering there are no signs about forklifts when you place a delivery order. Blah blah blah… eventually they came back, but not for another hour, during which we had to sit in the alley and babysit our wood.

Okay, I don’t have a home and I’m very illiterate when it comes to home improvement, if you know what I mean (Menards is for people with homes, not apartments, like me), but when I came here last night, I came here looking for some onion seeds for my church pastor so he can start his garden this year. Because of the cleanliness, ease of navigation, and pricing of merchandise at this place, I’m definitely coming back here for anything that I may need for either myself or someone else. Many ACE/​True Value hardware stores are independently owned and operated and do not normally have many of the things I’m looking for. And when they do have them, their prices are higher than at Menards. So, when it comes to anything for around the house, apartment maybe, or whatever, go to Menards. Don’t waste your time with the local hardware stores.
P. S. I’ve known Menards for years and one of the things I’ve always liked about Menards is its salespapers in the Sunday newspaper. Look at the bottom of each page, and you will find an inspirational message. I’ve always loved that!

Huge Menards on the West Side! While I found parking to be ample, the store is huge and hard to navigate, and was missing a few things I was looking for.
On the quest for a winter snow innertube, none could be found among the picked-​over decorations one week after Christmas. Heard in the aisles «When is this stuff going to be 75% off?» Indeed. Nobody but bargain hunters are looking for Christmas stuff after the Holidays, so just get rid of it, Menards!
No snow toys to be found! Wait, what’s that box my foot is hitting by the Christmas decorations? One last snow tube box on the ground, it’s fate!
I found one employee here to be friendly and helpful, the next to be clueless and not so helpful. I can’t believe this location doesn’t have a Camping section. I mean, what if I’m going winter hunting? I know it’s the West Side of Chicago, but you’re also Menards. Don’t be so proud you can’t have a camping section, West Side Menards!
Checkout is in a very weird place on the far west side of the store. My checkout girl was less than thrilled to have a job as a checker at Menards and didn’t say a word to anybody in line. Nice manners, babe!
Oh, but as Allan M. said in his review, Sprecher soda fans, rejoice! I haven’t seen this many kinds of Sprecher soda (pop) since I toured the brewery in Milwaukee. Rejoice!

We’ve had a hell of a week/​weekend. I will spare you the details but let’s just say that the drain declogger crystals that I needed to purchase did not live up to it’s name. It claimed to be safe for all pipes… it ate a hole in ours in less than 10 minutes.
My husband decided that this was the perfect opportunity to replace our sink. We were over the pedestal style and wanted something different. My bathroom has been the bane of my existence, anything would be an improvement. I had exactly in my mind what I was looking for, the brand, dimensions, etc. It was available at Menards, Lowes and Home Depot but each one was slightly different.
I have to admit that I was annoyed and offended by the clerk on duty. He offered a low end and a high end version of the particular vanity that I was interested in. I found the higher end version cheaper at their competitor and apparently he did not believe me and wanted to argue. I didn’t bring it up to haggle. I just wanted to know if they carried it in a 30″ because blah blah was out of stock and they sold it for $$. I was personally done with the conversation and already decided that I would not purchase my vanity there. My husband went along with the clerk and let him go into detail that the inside hinges were better, and that the model had legs where the one that I was comparing probably did not. I really didn’t give a damn. I was done.
Aside from the bathroom department, this Menards is worth going to if you have a project and want to find more options. Stuff is fairly low priced here and it definitely inspires one to want to DIY.

Well I moved to my apt with me n my wife on july. Well we had to make copies of the keys. So I took them to walmart to get some copies, got home, doors wouldn’t open. So went back and got my money back.
So to home depot I went, same thing happen as in walmart. So I remember that there’s a menards neraby. So got into the car an I went to it.
So went to where they make copies, took me a few minutes to find the person that was doing the keys, the store is HUGE, so unlike my 2 previous attempts to get keys, I see they use a machine that makes the copies an the saleperson doesn’t do anything, great!
So I got home an it turns out the clerk used a smaller key than mine. An hence the 4 stars n not the 5. But went back, found the clerk, an in less than 5 minutes I was out of there with identical keys as the original.
And they worked!

Psst, Sprecher soda fans in Chicago! You need a sudden fix of whatever Sprecher sodas you crave, and you’re sad you can find such a limited variety at Jewel, or whatever other grocery store you normally go to? Come here, and you can stock up beyond your wildest needs.
It’s even a Menards w/​a better than expected food selection, and I certainly have to think this is a small beacon to hope to nearby ‘food desert’ neighborhoods struggling with attracting something better than run of the mill corner stores. (and of couse, know it doesn’t solve their probs, but seeing selection like this has to at least mean something) They even have a greeter at this store, something I rarely have seen at many Menards, and certainly not at the Clybourn location. Obviously this blows the Clybourn location away by a great bit, but isn’t as non-​car friendly.
If by some weird chance you don’t drive here, I will warn that the store is a lot closer to Kostner Ave. than it is North Ave. Just a heads-​up, if you do take the bus here. Seriously, do everything in your power to drive (like I did w/​others) or Zipcar your way to this one!

This was my first Menard’s. I didn’t even know what they sold for a long time after moving here. It’s not like they have big windows facing the street. This one is so far from the road it looks like some ominous compound. Especially with the security car rolling around constantly with its lights on.
But I’m a fan of this place. I like it more than Home Despot or Lowes. I feel like I get the selection of a big store and lower prices while still kind of shopping local. This is definitely a Midwest place, and i see they try to highlight some local brands (like Sprecher).
This one is definitely a larger version of normal Menard’s. A few months ago, when I first started going, all the employees were pretty lost as far as where everything was. Now they are a lot better, and can atleast send you to someone who knows if they don’t get it yourself. That’s one reason why I like Menard’s better, is that you can always find someone to help, unlike Home Despot.
Actually, I need to go there now for some weatherstripping.

So 3 Mexicans decide to throw up a big wood fence (true story) So they decide to go to the New Menards on North ave…
And In AWE they were as they stepped foot inside!!! Holy smokies its the mother of all Menards!!! I mean its huge! Its like the Super 3 Lb burrito of burritos, you know the one that needs 2 flour tortillas to hold all the meat…
Walkin around I lost the other 2 mexicans I was with I had to dial my cell to locate them thats how huge this store is…

Their Lumber yard out back is awesome! The dudes out there driving the forklifts were very helpfull and helped us find the lumber we needed and helped us load the wood into the truck!

+1 star cause the chick in the service desk waived the late charge of the truck we rented (first 75 minutes is $ 18.99)! yeah… well we took 3.5 hours!

Holy cats and dogs, folks… I about tinkled my pants this place is paradise. Tools, oh tools… garden center?! Huuuuge garden center?! Grocery?! Yes, milk, frozen pizza, Nestle Quik, butter?! Pet center, tools… everything all shiny and pretty.
I think I need to go lay down now.
