Mercy’s Custom Couture & Alterations

So I was finally able to get my uniform pieces — very relieved. She’s a really sweet woman who’s going through a tough time right now that I wasn’t aware of. I was able to finally catch her in the store on a Saturday. I really hope she leaves a note on her store though for other customers trying to get their clothes.

Got my prom dress April and my prom is at the end of May. She told me she can finish my dress 15 days before my prom and when I come to get it, we realize it needs more work so she says it’ll take another week. I come a week later and she says come tomorrow and I come but her store was closed. I call everyday for 3 days til it’s 3 days before my prom and she’s still not ready. If you need quality work done quickly I would NOT recommend this place!

I have just picked up my wedding dress. It’s missing beading and the corset inside the dress is now too large. The hem appears to be something that was done to my liking, but for all that I had to go through with Mercy, it was definitely not worth it. Her prices for alterations were reasonable.
I dropped off my dress at the beginning of march for my wedding may 16^th. The first fitting everything seemed normal. She laid out what alterations she thought needed to take place and quoted a price. I payed the deposit on the day of drop off.
I have now gone back for a total of 5 times, 2 of which times I didn’t even need to try on the dress due to the previous alterations not being completed. She did not remember that I had an appointment 2 of the 5 times I went there. One of the times I went it, instead of altering the bust around the rib cage, which was too small, she altered the where the bust cup would be, which was already too large to begin with.
The 4^th time that I went she stated that I was just an anxious bride and that I just needed to calm down and that I wasn’t getting married until May 28^th, so she had enough time. I explained that I was not in fact an anxious bride, I was angry that every time I went to get my dress, no work that have been agreed upon, had been completed. The last time I went, beads fell off as I was putting it on. When I pointed out there were beads and detail missing, she said that it came this way from the manufacturer and if I wanted to wait for 30 or so minutes she would sew more on.
I tried to address the issue again I had with her services and she told me I was impatient and that’s why it could be done. She also told me that it’s normal to have 5 fittings, which doesn’t make any sense, since the 3^rd and the 4^th time I went in, we had agreed that I would be coming to pick it up and for the dress to be complete. Again, each time I tried to discuss this with her, she blamed me for whatever was wrong.
Every time I have gone in there she comments on how busy she is, etc etc. I offered several times, to take the dress and leave the deposit to get the alterations done somewhere else and she refused stating that I just needed to trust her. Well, as a consumer, trust is built by doing the things that you say you are going to do.

This was my first time going to tailor, seamstress not sure the term but I had a good experience. I found them on Unilocal.The place is small on a corner with plenty of free parking. She helped me on arrival and i tried on my dress she was able to take in the waist and fix the straps as the dress was too big. I asked for it to be done in 8 days but 6 days later I had the time to pick it up so called and she said she would try to get it done that day. I had low hope but she did call me that evening and said it was ready. I picked up the dress and when i tried it on at home it fit very nicely I had no complaints. I thought the price was fair and was happy with the service. I would recommend this place for alterations and will be going back

If I could give Mercy negative stars, I would. The two reviews on here are from a year ago, so maybe Mercy has changed, or maybe, as she said would happen to my review, more recent negative reviews have been deleted, but i truly have never had such a horrible customer service experience.
Mercy was recommended to my sister and i for our bridesmaids dresses by an acquaintance of the bride, so my sister called a few weeks back to see if Mercy was available for alterations. She explained our timeline and we were assured that Mercy could alter our dresses. We made an appointment, called to confirm, and arrived. Mercy explained what she would do with the dresses (hem both, take one in, and let one out), and said to call in a week and she would have them ready. My sister called a week later and was told by Mercy’s son that the dresses were not ready and she would have to call back. She called back every day for the next couple of days until she reached Mercy, who said the dresses would be ready by today and we could come in at any time to pick them up. She made an appointment for 2:30pm. When I arrived at 2:30pm today, I could see one of our dresses on the work table. Mercy said she was finishing my sister’s dress and I could try mine. I said that I was happy to wait until my sister got there so that she could finish the dress. My sister arrived a few minutes later and Mercy gave us our dresses to try on. To say that the dresses were awful is an understatement. The hems on both were not only uneven, but were puckered horribly. My dress was supposed to have been taken in, but instead, it was apparent that the material had been pulled, and run through a sewing machine. You could see the stitching and the entire bust of the dress was puckered, and just as large as before. My sister’s had been let out too much. When we explained to Mercy that the dresses needed to be fixed, she went into a whole story about how busy she has been, how she didn’t have time to really do the work, but that she could do it now, though she didn’t know how long it would take, and how she knew we would be trouble. Trouble? I fail to see how expecting work to be done as promised is being «trouble». I imagine any customer in such a situation would be incredibly troubled by the quality of the «workmanship» and the behavior. She said we called too much (she had told us to call), and repeated again that she was very busy, and said that we were horrible people. I stated that she shouldn’t have accepted the job if she was too busy to do it, and reminded her that she had told us when to call and when to come in. We told her that we would be taking our business elsewhere. When my sister tore our addresses and phone numbers off the order slip so that Mercy couldn’t contact or harass us, she stabbed my sister in the hand with a pin. She should truly be ashamed of herself. Fortunately, I contacted a friend who recommended another seamstress. We called and were able to go right in. They looked at the «work» that Mercy did and said that it was «despicable». I agree. Save yourself a lot of hassle and avoid this business.

After losing 60 pounds, I REALLY needed to have a couple dresses taken in. Having never been to a tailor/​seamstress, I was a little nervous and overwhelmed with options. Luckily I just happened to see Mercy’s shop while out and about one day, and decided to take a leap of faith. I brought an old bridesmaid’s dress to Mercy to have it altered into a cocktail dress for an event I was attending. This original dress was SO awkwardly shaped — it was full-​length, baggy in all the wrong areas, the bust area came down nearly to the waist — it was a pretty awful dress. Once Mercy started pinning away, the dress began to take shape! She has such a wonderful eye for body-​shape and what needs to be done to make you and the garment look your best. I was also worried because the dress was a one-​shoulder, and I wanted an asymmetrical hem (longer in back, shorter in front) and wasn’t sure how difficult that would be. Let me tell you, the dress turned out GORGEOUS! I received so many compliments on it, even from complete strangers! And she had it to me in time for my event, which was a pretty short time period– just under two weeks!
Since she did such an amazing job, I decided to have her alter my wedding gown, which I had bought prior to the weight loss and honestly, it looked so terrible on me I considered buying a whole new dress. I am so glad I didn’t! Once again, as soon as she started pinning away, I fell in love with the dress all over again! I think she might be magic. :) She knew exactly where to take in, what needed to be narrowed, where the waist should lie. I cannot wait to see it at my first fitting. That’s another thing I can’t praise enough — she is an absolute perfectionist and will schedule you for as many fittings as is necessary to make sure that the job is done right.
This lady knows her stuff. She went to school for this, she’s been doing it for 35 years (I believe is what she said), and she’s a very hard worker with an excellent eye for fit. She’s also very sweet and friendly, and charged what I believe to be a very fair price based on the amount of work that needed to be done on these dresses (they basically had to be completely remade, really)!
Super happy customer! I’ve got other dresses that need to be done and I will definitely be bringing them to Mercy. :)

The lady that works here is very nice. She is good at what she does and has very affordable pricing in my very limited knowledge. The only reason I gave a four is because she isn’t always open when her hours say, but she also stayed late for me to pick up my cloths after work. If you call her and she isn’t able to answer, leave a message. She has always returned my calls promptly.
