Always wanted to try this, but I thought it would be over priced for the restaurant’s namesake. Who didn’t love Michael Jordan, especially if you grew up during the ‘90s in the Chicagoland area. So I wasn’t sure how much of my interest was from my affection for his Airness. We went for dinner for Restaurant Week. 2016 menu: Order garlic bread(the only first course option), White Bean Roasted Garlic Soup(oddly lemony), upgraded the third course meat dish to MJ’s Delmonico($ 44 for Restaurant Week dinner + $ 23 for MJ’s Delmonico = $ 67 for my meal before tax and tip) with Mushroom Confit, and the Chocolate Hazelnut Torte. Loved MJ’s Delmonico. It is a 16oz. USDA prime, dry-aged 45 days, with a ginger-balsamic jus. It put my sister’s fillet mignon and her friend’s hanger steak(replacing the Prime Striploin on the Restaurant Week menu) to shame. Everything else was just ok. I’d go back just for the Delmonico; nothing else. I don’t know if they still offer this deal, but the website has an «eat like Mike menu»( ). «Legend has it that MJ ate this menu exactly four hours before every game, and now you too can pregame like a pro! Only available from 4 — 7PM during Chicago Bulls home games for $ 54!» It includes: –Caesar Salad — olive oil croutons, parmesan cheese –MJ’s Delmonico 16oz. — USDA prime, dry-aged 45 days, ginger-balsamic jus –Whipped Potatoes — prepared just the way MJ liked it –Dessert — Executive Chef’s selection It would be a great deal, especially since the Delmonico by itself is $ 54. But according to the website, it expired on Friday, October 23, 2015. Very friendly staff. Our waitress, Lindsey, was so nice and brought out the chef! So I told Chef Javier that MJ’s Delmonico was the best steak I’ve ever had at a steakhouse. This is true but it was also my first time having a Delmonico. Nate, who might have been the manager, was also very nice operating the wheelchair lift for us both times we needed to use the restroom. It’s locked with a key. It is accessible, but you need to go through the hotel, through a secret hallway, up an elevator, and up a small wheelchair lift. It might be easier to eat in the bar area that is just connected with the hotel and has regular sized tables. Nate was nice enough to tell us about the architecture of the building. The architecture of the building MJ’s restaurant is in(The InterContinental) is unlike any I’ve seen before. Learned that the building was built in the 20’s as Medinah Athletic Association but it didn’t do well because of the Great Depression so it was transformed into a hotel. The decorations are from Syria and the Middle East. Also, they thought blimps were going to be big, so they made an area on top of the roof for blimp landings but that did not catch on. Kind of a sad history but interesting, nevertheless. I definitely want to go back for MJ’s Delmonico.

Had a fabulous experience last night at Michael Jordan’s Steakhouse for Restaurant Week! Such a great meal from start to finish. From atmosphere to service to duh, the food– this place is top notch. My husband and I were boring and ordered the same menu for RW, but whatever– I think we ended up with the best of the menu. First course was the garlic bread and YUM! The blue cheese fondue it’s served with will change how you think about garlic bread! Next up was the white bean garlic soup, which was delicious as well. For our mains, we both had the petit filets(cooked rare because is there any other way?) and opted for the blue cheese crust rather than the shortbread jam– so, so good. Definitely one of the top 3 steaks we’ve had in the city-and there’s a lot of steak in this city, let’s be real. Dessert was the only place we were a split vote– we got one of each and I liked the chocolate cake where he liked the vanilla panna cotta better. Really, though, you can’t go wrong here. Can’t wait to come back and try the full menu!

I made reservations for dinner on a Sunday evening with my friends during restaurant week 2016. We were seated once everyone arrived. Décor — loved the décor inside the restaurant and the spacious tables/walking space. Restaurant Week 2016 First Course: Garlic bread — It was by far the most delicous garlic bread I have had before and the melted cheese complemented it perfectly. Everything about the bread from perfectly crispy to the flavors of the bread was delicious. I definitely recommend the garlic bread(even though I am not a blue cheese fan). The portions were more than enough amongst a table of 7 people. We all had about 2 pieces and still had leftovers. Second Course: Romaine Hearts — this is pretty much a Caesar salad. the croutons were a bit on the more oily side. Overall, it was an ok salad. Gem Lettuce — Neat presentation of the salad, but this also means that you need to slice your own lettuce. I would go with the caesar salad or garlic soup if you are extremely hungry & impatient or lazy to slice your own lettuce. The overall salad was ok. Third course:(they also provided upgrade meat options) Petite Filet Mignon — cooked perfectly as requested(medium rare, I like the slightly bloody meat). Everything about the filet mignon was perfect from the flavor to the way it was cooked. The sweetness of the braised short rib jam and mashed potatoes complemented the filet mignon. Fourth course: Chocolate hazelnut torte — The chocolate cream was very smooth and velvety. The hazelnut crust was crunchy which added a nice texture to the smooth chocolate cream. The torte was also topped with little minature wafer type balls which added a nice touch & was tasty. Vanilla Bean Panna Cota — the flavor was light, fruity and refreshing. Customer Service — Excellent from start to end. The server was very friendly and attentive to our needs. Our waters were filled immediately and our plates were cleared as soon as we finished them(not to the point that we felt rushed eating or anything). The food came out perfectly timed between each course. I would highly recommend dining at this restaurant even if it wasn’t during restaurant week. I would come back for their delicious food! Yum!

This is a great place for when you want to impress someone: dinner with your boyfriend or girlfriend’s parents, a birthday dinner, something like that. The service is very good, and the food is pretty impressive. Now I’m a firm believer that this city has a wealth of amazing food at lower price points, but MJ steakhouses certainly has its time and place.

When I looked at the menu online, trying to psyche myself up for steak, because. STEAK, my go to was going to be the bone in rib eye. I had no idea that the delmonico was also rib eye and their specialty. I was a little bit weary of the sauce but I like to try restaurant specialties. So, instead, I ordered the delmonico and bf had the bone in rib eye. The meat was cooked just like I wanted it(medium rare plus — something I learned at steakhouse once and it is really just the perfect temperature and finish for me. But they do have to know how to do it well because it is only a matter of seconds/degrees). I have to say that judged on my own meal, I did not like it so much. I like my steak with all the awesome flavors of steak and marinated with salt and pepper only. I feel that sauces take away from the flavor and they could be useful in masking below quality meat. But this meat, was good meat! If you are into sauces, you might like this one. However, the bf bone in rib eye was excellent. It was seasoned really well, was cooked how we like it, and was very flavorful, yet tender. Definitely what I would order next time and the reason why I still reviewed this at 4 stars. Along with our steaks, we ordered the mac and cheese and creamed spinach. They are sharable sizes and we would have been just fine with one. They were both great, but the mac and cheese was notable. We also had the bacon as our appetizer and if you like bacon, you’d love it! Lastly, we had to order the 23 layer cake. We counted it, of course, and the waiter quickly let us know that they count the ganache on the top as a layer as well. I have to mention that staff was amazing! Our water cups were never empty and our waiter was very knowledgeable. We found out that their food is locally sourced and consider themselves to be «farm to table.» This is great! Local food is always freshest, as it does not have to travel too far, and you can tell that here! We also enjoyed looking at the big names on some of the knives displayed. Regulars and celebrities get their names on their own knives for when they come back.

Food is great! Service is just okay! Sat down and offered a glass of water but there was an obvious lipstick mark and when I told my server he was just like«Oh?!» Took my glass then gave me a new one without saying an apology like it was just nothing… Good thing I looked into the glass before I had a sip because I’m a foodie person and I like observe almost everything…

I was impressed with the décor of the restaurant, however I was not impressed with the lack of adherence to dress code. On a trip to Chicago(week of 4th of July), I made a reservation and was told dress code was business casual; no gym shoes or tee shirts, collar shirts accepted. I changed into a blazer and loafers(leather bottom) and very dark denim slacks. No issue with being accepted for reservation, however the family that came in after me had on canvas sneakers and father had on a tee shirt. I cannot give a 4⁄5 star rating at this time. My server Jennifer(from the Mitten) was simply awesome and fantastical. She knew the menu inside and out! Also, very thoughtful of my food allergies. If anyone has questions about my food allergies and food reconstruction journey and what not, shoot me a message :) I will say, I had the grass fed ribeye, medium done. Normally, if I eat beef its medium-well but she(waitress) recommended I have it medium done as grass fed beef tends to cook a bit faster(sans the extra fat) and dry out quicker. It was ok, kind of tough but very savory. The hit of the night was the Mashed Potato Trio! Three little pots of goodness, old bay, a cheesy one and a garlic one. Ohhh my word! I dabble with dairy a wee bit and I must say, these potatoes were splendidly prepared! I took a doggie bag to my hotel and finished my potatoes promptly in the morning.

My wife and I made reservations for Christmas dinner. We arrived 10 minutes early and were seated 10 minutes after our reservation time. The hostess gave us the attitude that we should thank her for getting us in when she did. Not impressed. We went upstairs and sat down to a dimly lit table. My wife didn’t care much for the décor… I didn’t mind it one way or another. She is an interior designer so these things matter to her. Anyway, our waiter was nice enough but lacked the polished professionalism that you come to expect at a higher end steak restaurant. I know that is snobbish but there is no other way to put it. Things got much better with dinner. We got the shrimp cocktail for the appetizer. The shrimp were extremely big and the shaved celery with the vodka spiked cocktail sauce were a great start to the meal. Next came the steaks. 10oz filet medium rare for my wife and it was beyond complaint. Very nice and perfectly cooked. I got the strip after a bad experience from another steakhouse earlier in the month. I had to try and re-find my love for the NY Strip. The verdict? Best strip I’ve had since San Diego 5 years ago. It was perfectly cooked and seasoned. It was tender but still gave me that chew that you crave from a top notch steak. I enjoyed every last bite of the strip. Out of 7 steakhouses in Chicago this was my best steak so far. My wife wouldn’t let me get the 23 layer chocolate cake after I got ill eating the chocolate cake at RPM so I went with the Nutella crème brûlée. I thought it was rather tasty but my wife thought it was a little ghetto lacking polish. Overall, I very good meal that left me very satisfied.

Only reason I give this place 4 out of 5 stars is the price. They are just a little too high compared to other steakhouses that I have experienced in the area, and they don’t have too much that sets them a part as far as ambiance goes. The staff was very friendly and attentive. The filet was excellent, MJ’s Delmonica was great if you don’t mind a bit of fat. The garlic bread and brussel sprouts were very tasty as well. 2 steaks(steak only), appetizer(garlic bread), side(brussel sprouts), no drinks, only waters = $ 160 w/20% tip and tax. If It was a city view I would expect these prices, but it’s MJ’s place so he can charge a premium for his name. Nothing makes me want to run back anytime soon since there are so many other choices nearby that offer similar quality at a more reasonable price.

A friend and I had the pleasure of dining here on a Friday evening. We had reservations and were seated immediately upon arrival. We tried the Garlic Bread with hesitation because of the blue cheese. It was delicious, it not what you think. Not that funky blue cheese with a strong taste. Don’t knock it until you try it. The Filet was the most tender I’ve had. The Au Gratin potatoes were nothing extraordinary but just potatoes. The ambience and the wait staff were excellent. I enjoyed this place. The folks giving it a bad rating just were having a bad day. If your reassign this… GO!

Today is a day for a good meal while on vacation. My wife and I looked around for places that were reputable for their food. After reading reviews about Michael Jordan’s Steakhouse, we couldn’t pass up the chance to try it during our visit. So we got there and check-in to the restaurant was a good experience. We went to the bar area and it seemed a little out dated and the look was not what I expected. We ordered drinks and they were over priced based on the portion we received. $ 20 for a Remy Martin, where I only got two sips was annoying and a turn off. I decided to cut my losses and just drink water the rest of the evening. Then our table was ready and the hostess asked to carry my wife’s wine to the table. This was very professional and added class to the experience. We then ordered and my wife got the filet mignon medium well and I got the grass fed ribeye. I will first talk about the grass fed ribeye cooked medium. This was a disappointment. The steak was not cooked well and was tough to cut and chew at times. The only reason why I finished it was because the sauce was very good. This saved me from complaining to management. It would have been a perfect steak if it was cooked better or possibly been a better cut. My wife’s steak was decent but she wasn’t «Wow’ed» by the flavor but it was good enough to eat and she thought it was still good. I’ll keep it at that. The service was very good and our waitress was very nice. Just wish the food was better.

Sometimes I dream That he is me I dream I move, I dream I groove Like Mike If I could Be Like«Mike»…no you can’t but you can maybe eat like him… This was a must stop for me when visiting Chicago. I kind of felt under-dressed as this is a real nice establishment and we had some high end ballers rolling up in here. Was hoping to run into the Airness himself as the Hornets were in town to play the Bulls that weekend but no luck. It would have been so epic if Jordan actually showed up and asked me if the steak was to my liking… we can all dream can’t we!?! Garlic Bread w/Wisconsin Roth Kase blue cheese fondue — must order, probably one of the best garlic breads I’ve ever had. Shrimp Cocktail — the sauce went perfect with this shrimp, you could taste the flavor in every bite. New York Strip 14 oz — I wanted it medium well and it was cooked to perfection, such a thick quality cut of meat, no sauce needed I devoured this bad boy. Lobster Add on — added this to my steak, goes perfect with the butter they give you. Steak Frites — Carmelized onion jus and great cuts of meat as expected with them yummy fries. If you are looking for a real nice place to dine and are also a basketball fan such as myself I strongly suggest you visit this place. My buddies brought me here as a surprise b-day gathering and the restaurant was even nice enough to let us bring in an outside doughnut cake and even provided the candles and party hats. You can make reservations ahead of time and make sure you are dressed up a little bit, don’t show up in your sweats. Keep an eye of out for Air Jordan because I was told he randomly stops by on occasion so you never know his Airness might just stop by your table and ask you if your steak is to your liking…

I had to stop by here. As a kid, watching MJ play was insane. Mentally, I prepared myself for a gimmicky place tourists go to. Man, I was really surprised. I had the Bone-in Ribeye, mushrooms and a Moscow Mule. The seasoning was perfect. The steak was hearty and just the right if tenderness of medium rare. In comparison to another steakhouse I had the next night, pricing was on point. The mushrooms were crazy good!!! I’d come back next time I’m on North Michigan Avenue.

Sat at the bar while waiting for a table at Purple Pig across the street. I liked the bar and the bartender. I enjoyed my torrontes sangria with passionfruit syrup. It was a little on the sweet side for what I’d consider sangria approaching fruity cocktail level but not quite. My friends and I also split an order of the garlic bread with bleu cheese sauce. The bleu cheese is sort of overwhelming so if you’re not a fan of bleu cheese definitely avoid this. I did not like the lady at the other end of the bar taking pictures of everything with a flash on her DSLR but listening to my friends complain about it was entertaining.

Like any other kid who grew up in Chicago in the 90s, I was a die hard Chicago Bulls fan. One of the things I was never able to do though was to check out the original Michael Jordan’s restaurant before it closed. One night we were looking for some last minute dinner reservations and MJ’s steakhouse was one of the only places that had tables available at a decent time so we decided to just check it out and fulfill my childhood dreams. Ambiance: The restaurant is right on Michigan Ave in a pretty touristy area. Coming in, I wasn’t expecting an in your face fan zone experience with sports memorabilia littered everywhere, but I figured they would at least tastefully make references to the accomplishments that made Michael Jordan famous. I was surprised to see the upscale atmosphere they were going for and I quickly realized that they were using MJ’s name as merely a brand and nothing in the restaurant would bring back any of the nostalgia of the golden years of the Chicago Bulls. The only place I saw anything Bulls related was downstairs near the bathroom. We were greeted by the hostess and were led across a elegant glass bridge into the main area of the restaurant. It had that dark and intimate vibe and they were clearly trying to establish themselves as a legit steakhouse. TIP — If you used the valet outside of the hotel where the steakhouse is located, you can bring your check to get it validated downstairs before you pick up your car. Food: We decided to go all out and just order a little bit of everything. Garlic Bread — A stack of ultra buttery and garlicky pieces of toast. I don’t even wanna know how much butter was in it but it was delicious. A creamy, blue cheese type sauce was doused all over it. You better believe I finished every last drop of that sauce. Beef Carpaccio — This was actually the first time I ever tried carpaccio, and it turns out it’s not really my thing haha. The quality of the meat seemed good, it was pretty tender, and it wasn’t bad when you mixed it with the cheese, but I just wasn’t feelin it. Definitely prefer my meats served warm. Mashed Potato Trio — A nice variety of potato dishes with 3 completely different flavors. They might rotate the menu for this but when we went there was a nice mix of classic, sweet, and super savory flavors. Mac and Cheese — You can’t really go wrong with mac and cheese, but this one was super rich and creamy and cheesy as hell. It was topped with a crunchy layer of bread crumbs, which added some good texture to each bite. No complaints here. MJ’s Delmonico — This was true test to see if MJ deserved to be mentioned in the same breath as some of the Chicago staples. The steak was actually pretty solid, although I’m not that hard to impress with a good cut of quality meat. It was nice and fatty and had a good sear on the outside. Usually I like my steaks simple. Just some basic seasoning and then let the meat’s own fat and juices do the rest of the talking. I’m glad the balsamic jus didn’t distract too much from the tasty meat. When you’re talking about the best steak I’ve had, other places probably edge MJ out, although it was still really good. I mean, if you’re charging $ 55 for a steak it better be damn good, so it at the very least this steak met my expectations for a prime house. Nutella Crème Brulee — The desserts here were just great. The minute we saw this on the menu we definitely knew we were getting it. A very unique take on crème brûlée that I’m surprised I haven’t seen at too many other places. The same rich filling with a delicate sugar shell, but with an interesting hazelnut twist. Service: The service here was pretty top notch. There wasn’t too much waiting time in between dishes so we enjoyed the flow of the meal. Also, it looks like the couple next to us got engaged right at that moment at their table. They didn’t say anything to anyone, and the servers picked up on it just from observation and congratulated them with a couple glasses of champaign. I thought that was pretty cool they went out of their way to do that. Overall, luckily MJ’s steakhouse didn’t solely bank on Jordan’s name and they actually served up pretty good food. It was definitely higher priced than some of the other prime steakhouses around Chicago but I guess that’s what we get for dining along Michigan Ave. There are probably some cheaper options for similar quality steaks but I’d say it’s worth checking out to celebrate a special occasion.

This was my first stop in Chicago on a late Saturday night because my sis had told me about: 23LAYERCHOCOLATECAKE — $ 14 We knew wouldn’t finish it but we just had to have it! And yes, I counted all the thin layers of of chocolate cake, chocolate mouse and the chocolate glaze on top. I couldn’t make one clean cut with my fork from top to bottom though. It came with a streak of whipped topping and a hard handy as garnish. How did the cake taste? Well to me it was dry but very rich in taste. MAC N CHEESE The pasta is al dente style where the pasta is hard, which I’m not a fan of. But this dish was baked in a clay pot and topped with bread crumbs which made it crispy and pretty good. It wasn’t the best Mac n cheese I had but it was pretty darn good. Nate took really good care of us tonight. He somehow worked his magic to have the kitchen make the Mac n cheese for us because it was late, and we were sitting in the bar area because the restaurant had closed by then. We received stellar service from Nate and had a wonderful time.

I had the Del Monico steak which was very good if a bit pricey. Sides are interesting so I advise sharing them family style and trying more than one. Also unless you are very hungry, keep in mind desserts are huge. We had dinner with a large group in a separate room so I didn’t find the place noisy as other reviewers said. Also service was quite good.

We went here for my birthday dinner last night. We made reservations on the OpenTable App an hour before our reservation and got in at 9:45 on a Saturday night no problem. This is a nice place which we wanted, we were already dressed up and looking for somewhere classy. We sat in the dining room upstairs and at the time we got there it was still semi busy. Service was a little slow in our opinion. We probably sat at our table about 7 minutes before our waitress greeted us. She was very friendly and knowledgeable but I felt like throughout the night we were sitting and waiting for things longer than we should have been for that class of restaurant especially. I will say though, she recommended the Crab Cake appetizer to us and it was one of the best things I’ve ever tasted! All meat, like no breading. It was seriously incredible. My date even stopped mid sentence after he took the first bite he thought it was so good haha. The steaks were cooked perfectly(I would hope) and our key lime dessert was very good too! Sweet but very delicious. We were not huge fans of the scallops though. The scallops themselves were cooked beautifully but we felt they were overtaken by too much seasonings/extra stuff. Maybe I just like my scallops more simple? I’m really glad we went here though. The food was delicious and I liked the ambiance. Now we know if we want to dressed up and go somewhere this is a nice place to consider!
