My family and I love Shakespeare Theater. My wife and I see 10 – 15 Shakespeare performances a year, or more, and we LOVE outdoor Shakespeare the best. We do our best to get out and support every company and production we can find in the greater Chicago area. We ESPECIALLY like these performances with our 11 and 9 year old when they are free. We stumbled upon Midsommer Night rather by accident and managed to make it to their last performance of Much Ado About Nothing at Touhy Park on Sunday, August 24th, 2014. We had no idea what to expect, we read no reviews ahead of time, we just showed up. It was FREE Shakespeare, we could endure anything for 95 minutes. WOW! I cannot believe this was a free production. I cannot believe how well done this performance was. I cannot believe there were not hundreds of audience members clamoring to see this final production of the summer. THANKYOU, and special kudos to Ashlee Edgemon as Beatrice, Martel Manning as Benedick, Jared Dennis as Dogberry, Adam Habben as Claudio, all stellar performances. Heck, the whole cast was great, every single performer. And this was FREE? Watch out Chicago Rep Shakespeare in the Parks and Oak Park Festival Theater, you have SERIOUSLY talented competition(which is all good) from the folks at Midsommer Flight, and I can’t wait to see what they stage for this town next summer. Bravo my Shakespearean brethren, BRAVO.
