I’ve been here many times, and many times I’ve had an awesome experience. Before today I would have rated 5 stars-exceptional service and great food. Twice before when food was slow to come out i was given free drinks and chips for the inconvenience. So nice. Above and beyond right there. But tonight I was really craving a quesadilla. I walked over and ordered from the chef. I said grande chicken quesadilla. He wanted to be clear and asked again. I repeated. 15 minutes later a lady hands me a bag and says chimichanga. I said no, must be someone else’s. She looked at me like I was crazy. The chef yelled at me and told me that’s what I said. I said no, sir, you’re incorrect. Chicken quesadilla. He rolled his eyes and continued to belittle me in front of the other employees. They threw the chimi away and he made the quesadilla another 15 minutes later. And they made me pay for it. I wasn’t expecting anything free, but the customer deserves better. I don’t know why he blamed his mistake on me. I’ve worked in food service before and this was very rude and improper.

We were doing a food hop in Chicago over the weekend and ended our night here. Happily, I might add! We LOVE this place. We loved it when we lived nearby, and still drop by quite often when we visit the city. I’m giving it 5 stars right now b/c where I live(in Wisconsin) and many other places I’ve lived and eaten(NYC, other restaus in Chicago) just don’t do it like Mr Salsa does! The beans were not as on point as normal, but the rice was perfectly flavored, as was the small amount of guac that came with my amazingly delicious chili rellenos :) My husband had chicken-filled quesadillas which have, I’m quite certain, never met their match. The fact we’ve seen the young kids grow up is a testament to this place as well. Not only is their food(and did I mention salsa? no? still darn good!!) amazing, the kids are growing up to be very kind and intelligent human beings. I’m so happy about that :) We love you, Mr Salsa! You do everything so well, with love, and it shows :)

The one star is for what the food used to be. The meat now has a lot of fat, very poor quality meat but well seasoned I must say. The phone customer service sucks, unnecessary screaming, not cultural more rude. Nice prices, for cheap fattening meat and oil.

No frills in décor, but food is amazing. I moved to the area a few months ago and have been coming here weekly. I can’t get enough of the salsa and love the tortas. They welcome you and how easily they remember how I like my order, highly recommended.

Love my burrito — usually chicken. I carry out — sometimes take home and sometimes walk next door to Driftwood and have a beer side!

Perfect for what it is: a quick, cheap Mexican fix! I usually order the vegetarian burrito and it always tastes fresh and delicious. I really like their red and green sauces as well and they’ve always been happy to give me extra when I ask. Great service and pretty decent food, I definitely plan on trying a few more menu items soon.

First time I’m enjoying. UPDATE: Food is always good, and either carry out or eat in. But what had me was the green salsa. It was the very first time I had liked the way it was served(I typically mix them to make it spicier or not bland) with that being said– it has changed a little. Some days its spicy some days it isn’t but its still appreciated. Tiny place but always nice walk in spot.

I know Chicago has a sea of taco joints and taquerias but, this is one of my faves! I love their $ 2.50 chorizo tacos and pastor burritos. Their horchata is INCREDIBLE and their red and green salsas are great! Their guacamole! Holy moly! Made fresh while you wait! Seriously, Mr. Salsa is where it’s at! Btw, you can take your food to the dive bar next door :)

Come for the tacos and stay for… Actually don’t stay it’s pretty cramped in there. Anyways, I get take out from here at least once a week to get my fill of tacos. It’s not special but it’s authentic. The Al Pastor tacos are great and they have just the right flavor. I’ve tried the Caldo de res(beef soup) and it’s pretty decent too. It’s worth to check out if you’re in the area and are in the mood for authentic Mexican take out.

I was casually walking to the target on Wilson last Sunday morning. I usually don’t come to this side of town that much often especially to eat… I’m just not this familiar with the neighborhood. I Unilocaled places to eat and this mr salsa popped up… So I have it a try… It’s a hole in the wall but I have to admit the food here is great and cheap and the service is also great! The asada was good, but the stuffed pepper taco and the pastor were great. You can tell this is home cooking. To add to my experience, there was a little girl probably one of the owners daughters, she was eating what seems cactus.(Yes, you can eat cactus) and I asked for one of those tacos. She said they didn’t sell them as that’s was something they prepared for themselves… I said ok fine… Bud the she offered me some! I was the most excited and it was awesome! Recommend this place highly!

I came for dinner and I had the steak torta. It wasn’t good at ALL. Very small, no favor and not enough meat. Also over priced

Meat has no flavor, gorditas are fried and hard to bite into. Very disappointed, seeing so many reviews made me choose this but oh well. No coming back and I don’t recommend it. The workers have friends over and they are super loud talking about personal stuff yuck!

I used to be a regular here until one day while I was trying to get past a patron(a guy the owner appeared to have known) in the tiny space that was available the owner told me to move out of the way. Another day while I was still eating my food the owner harassed me to give a tip. That was very rude because I would tip every time I visited. Not the best way to treat a customer, especially considering that restaurants like these are a dime a dozen.

For the money this place does not disappoint. The staff here is very good about customizing the meal to fit your fancy. I’ve had the caldo de res, tacos(cebolla y cilantro only for me), and the tostadas. All very yummy. Can’t go wrong eating here. Not the fanciest place but the staff is super friendly and the food is legit!

Simple, cheap, good, what you would expect. I used to eat here all the time when I lived in the neighborhood and still swing in every now and then when I’m riding through.

Of three tacos that I tried, only one was any good. The fish taco was great: light(not fried) and flavorful. The veggie taco was boring, and the chile relleno taco was a grease bomb. This place is definitely no Primo Chuki’s.

The best cheap Mexican food around! My husband and I get take out from here pretty regularly. I highly recommend the chorizo quesadilla and their fresh chips and guac!

People are told never to judge a book by its cover. However, sometimes the cover is right. This place looks like a family-run, slightly-divey, taco spot. And guess what? You’d be completely right, without even stepping foot inside. Much like every nut has a bolt, every drunk has a Mr. Salsa. I have frequently stumbled into this place with my below-par Spanish. Want my Spanish lesson for the day? Repeat after me, «Burrito Asada, por favor.» That one line will get you a toasted tortilla, greasy and salty carne asada, chihuaha cheese, shredded lettuce, diced tomatoes and refried beans. Complimentary salsas as well. Bow your head, and devour. It hits the spot, but won’t make you rethink your career choices and switch to being a short order cook for your local tacqueria. There are better, but when you’re drunk and hungry, you don’t deserve better.

Decent tacos for the price. Don’t make a special trip, but not a bad option if you’re in the area. Guacamole is pretty good.
