Another great one has fallen. Rokito’s has closed. Life just got a little less tasty.

Very impressed. From the outside this place looks pretty shady but rather agreeable on the inside. My experience: At first I was put off by the«no chicken at this time» comment, but Rokitos made up for it with the fresh taste of its burrito(I had a veggie — something I wouldn’t normally choose) and homemade sauces(I’m a huge fan of sauce) Prices are quite reasonable and portions are just right! Service wasn’t the best that day but I don’t expect much — just as long as the food is amazing Rokito’s + their sauces + their prices = amazing :)

Pleasantly surprised!!! This place is right underneath the L at Wilson. So, I wasn’t sure what to expect. So, getting off work early, I decided to give it a try for a late lunch. I ordered the fish taco and a chicken taco to-go. Both were delicious. The fish taco was cooked well(very crispy) and had red cabbage with a good spicy sauce. The chicken was cooked well as well. Chicken was moist and flavorful. I would definitely go back. There are so many more options I would love to try. I don’t recall what was there before but they definitely made it look nice. Great job!

You can tell a lot of effort and design went into setting up this spot, and I like how it turned out. After a brain-fryer of a weekday, it was just the relief I needed, a cool-down retreat on my way home. Rokito is tucked underneath the Wilson redline stop, smackdab in the middle of a neighborhood that isn’t necessarily vibrant, but definitely interesting. Inside and on the front exterior, they’ve got a certain amount of new flash and style that grabs your attention, and on multiple bike rides past their location, I had thought it was worth a shot. The inside of the restaurant is a colorful mix of Central Americana and Steve Jobs-ish bling. The window bar stool seats were an especially good spot to kick back, mow down a burrito, catch up on The Onion’s reporting, and watch the crowds mingle outside. The setup was definitely the best part. They did a good job making it feel lively and still sort of calm inside. I got the chorizo burrito and it was excellent. It was heavy on both chorizo and cheese. The tortilla was cooked just right with some crispiness, but still enough softness to hold all those ingredients inside without cracking apart. Several people in the restaurant were making good use of the byob policy, pairing up their Mexican fare with specialty brews. While the service wasn’t especially fast, everyone was nice to deal with and the food was delicious.

Irregular service hurts good food– I really want to be able to give a better review, but the service here has been so irregular. This is just the type of restaurant that is great for Uptown, but it’s hard to support them based on their hours. I was ready to start out my day with great breakfast burrito from Rokito’s. I walked by today at 9:30am, two and a half hours after thier posted open time, and they were closed. I have noticed that this happens quite a bit. I have had great service when the owner is present, and maybe it is first year growing pains, but a regular clientele can only be built up over time with consistent service.

Location is a bit sketchy, but thats why my rent is affordable. I’m really glad there’s some tacos and well cooked Mexican food in this area. This is cheap, good, authentic stuff, and it’s not sketchy at all. The neighborhood– sure that’s sketchy, but the food and the place itself is clean, real, and creative. I like it, and I’ll certainly be back for more. I do kind of think the prices are a bit higher than normal taco stands and stuff, but I happily pay it because the fact that it’s so clean and comfortable in there is worth it. I feel ok to eat this stuff, unlike some other Mexican taco joints where you wonder if the food is legit ok to eat. Enjoy!

Interesting location, right under Wilson L stop. Its great to have this restaurant here to try to bring up the area. But still, outside is pure Uptown. For the area, the prices are quite high, and while the food is tasty and good, and perfect for late night/fast food, I wouldn’t rate it extraordinary. Still, if I’m coming this way and need subsistence, there’s no other place as good and open as late.

I really like this place. Finally stopped in one day for lunch and ordered a taco dinner, that comes with rice & beans. Tacos were good but what I found really delicious was the rice & beans. I don’t know why. I’ve never been huge on rice & beans but that day, it was as if I was eating it for the first time. The black beans are cooked with bacon. I was hooked at bacon. Also found comforting that the horchata was being served out of a huge stock pot, thinking that it was brewed that day(or at least I like to think so). I get off at the Wilson stop at least 5 days a week, this place makes it a little too convenient to just stop in and grab something to eat.

Service sucks!!! I went there over the summer and am just NOW writing a review because I couldn’t remember the name of the place. I stopped in quickly for a couple of street tacos and asked for them without onions. I received my tacos and they had onions. I went back up to the counter with the tacos to have them remade. The girl working the register was nice but the chefs were shooting me dirty looks. Less than I minute later, I received two«new» tacos only to open them up to see they scraped a couple of onions off. Needless to say, they did not remake the tacos and didn’t take me or my request seriously. I don’t know how any restaurant in this city would skimp on customer service when there are hundreds of other places customers can go. I ended up asking for my money back. I never got to taste the tacos and I probably never will.

I ordered a quick chicken taco. It came out really fast. I noticed that they did not put any salsa on the taco which is a good thing and bad thing. I assumed they did so I told them that I did not need any taco sauce. Oh well. For next time, I will make sure to get some sauce. It is conveniently adjacent to the Wilson stop exit.

The food is super good and the service is always friendly for me. I asked if the refried beans had lard and the owner was very helpful in informing me of all the vegetarian items on the menu(refried beans and white rice: yes; black beans and yellow rice: no). Very clean and nifty looking interior and good music. If the prices were a little lower they would have gotten all five stars. Ill be back!

Unfortunately I have to update my review: When Rocky, the owner of the place is there, and he’s cooking(usually in the mornings and afternoons) the food is amazing. But at night my experience with his midnight shift cooks have been awful. It’s just management issues really, but the past two times I’ve gotten midnight tacos there, the fish has been overcooked and the process has been really slow to actually get my food. I’d love to go back in a couple weeks and see if it’s improved at night. Till then be wary of the midnight shift.

Got 3GOAT tacos after my workout tonight. I like meat, and I thought that, like other taquerias, Rokitos would serve their tacos with only a tiny amount of meat. Boy was I wrong! Those were some pretty hefty tacos! My compliments to the cook! I thought this would be a light post-workout meal, but no, it ended up being a very satisfying dinner! The meat was spilling out of my tacos! If you like your protein, like I do, you’ll really like their tacos. Also, the meat was tender and I got the tacos«Mexican style,» which means they came with chopped onions and cilantro, instead of lettuce and tomato(«American style»). Very nice! This was my first time there, and I wish I could have eaten there, but was in a hurry to get home. The place is clean and they were playing Guns & Roses, November Rain. Good song!

and so goes the general Unilocal rating system as this would be a 3.5 for me, but, alas, 3 it is as it didn’t seem to have enough to push it into 4. So, lets now work backwards as that was the summary before the actual review. I’m sure many can deal with that spoiler. Anyway, I really came here for tacos, so tacos were what I ordered. The chicken was too dry, but the chorizo and ground beef tacos were very good. All of the tacos were packed with meat. In fact, meat would spill out from each taco. The service was real quick and really nice. It isn’t the cheapest compared with other places, but I’m more than willing to give them a few more go’s before making up my mind

The food is good, not great. Sadly, what’s stood out to me the most about Rokito’s is the high prices, compared with other Uptown taquerias. They do have some unique offerings on the menu, but I haven’t found anything truly noteworthy about the old standbys, tacos and burritos. I hope my opinion will improve as I try the other items on the menu.

I live in the neighborhood and pass by this place every day. I finally decided to stop by this weekend. I walked in and the owner was there. I asked if they had good steak tacos.(I hate it when the steak is super fatty and gristle-y.) The next thing I know he was handing me a bowl with a little sample of the steak. It was wonderful. Very well seasoned and juicy. I ordered 3 steak tacos and on the walk home my mouth was watering because they smelled so yummy. The tacos were great and I will definitely be returning. It’s so great to finally have a great Mexican place in the neighborhood!

Oh goodness I hate to do this… but this place was TERRIBLE! Now maybe it was because we went on opening night and they just didn’t have their act together or maybe it is because this place is in fact just plain ol’ terrible. I don’t know… but I will never be going here again. Opening night… After waiting in line for 15 minutes we were at the counter ready to order. We were informed that they were going to be serving a limited menu for the next two weeks. Ok that was fine with us… we only wanted the taco dinners. Well we couldn’t get the taco dinners(especially not the fish taco dinners). But we could order the tacos separately and then order a side of rice and a side of beans. Not wanting to cause a scene we went with the flow(we are usually easy going people). I ordered a Mexican coke and the fella TRIED to order a glass of water. Response to said request for water: We don’t have ice. It was left at that. They didn’t have ice, so he couldn’t have water! After getting to our table the fella decided he needed to go to the bathroom… of course this place didn’t have one. Question: How do you have a sit down resturant and no bathroom? He excused himself and walked to 7/Eleven. Returned with an empty bladder and a bottle of water. I had to ask the owner(I believe) for my Mexican coke five times and the chips and salsa twice that. Both of which arrived at our table after our meal. The meal: My veggie tacos were terrible. I can heat up some canned refried beans at home and put some cilantro and onions on them thank you. And remember how we couldn’t get the taco dinners and had to order it separately it came separately… however our two orders came on one plate. I guess that means we are sharing! Oh and the rice… dry and flavor less. And the salsa? SUPERCOLD and store bought tasting. Oh and also… they over charged us by about $ 8. It is sad. I really wanted to like this place. It is adorable and I was hoping that it would be a great addition to the neighborhood. Sad sad sad…

Are you kidding me? This place was horrible. Went in on the way home from work. Ordered two carnitas and an el pastor. I watched the chef put a pile of pork on the griddle, all of which looked the same. Got home and the meat was full of gristle, dry, and has absolutely no flavor. There was definitely a good portion of meat in each taco. I realize the place is new, but I am pretty sure they have salt. I don’t have an extensive culinary knowledge base, but I do know that el pastor and carnitas are not the same thing and generally are not just pork cooked on a griddle. Absolutely would not go back or advice it to anyone who wants a taco. Save yourself the trouble and buy some pork, salt, pepper, and tortillas. You can probably do a better job at home.

This utterly charming Mexican spot is a nice addition to Uptown’s grub scene. First of all, they’ve only been open three days as of today. They don’t have their full menu out and available for hungry diners to sample(hence the one-star subtraction from this review), but the food we ended up with(veggie tacos, pork burrito) was tasty enough that I’m very much looking forward to tasting the rest of their offerings. Highlights: *Delicious house-made hot sauce * Super-moist and tasty meat in the burrito * melted cheese between the two tortillas wrapping the tacos * Awesome décor(stools made out of repurposed, sculpted piping, benches made out of reclaimed boards, etc, day of the dead paintings, etc) * Walk-up window(super convenient for take-home food at night)

Rokito’s opened today on Wilson Ave adjacent to the Wilson Red Line Station. They serve everything from breakfast to midnight tacos through the walk-up window, which you can enjoy on the patio. The interior is vibrant and comfy and the food is delectable at a GREAT price. This place is definitely an Uptown MUST!!!
