Massively crowded with stuff, no organization, hard to get anywhere in the store because everything is heaped about. Prices most often too high. No air conditioning on a hot Chicago day. Nice owner but felt like I was in an episode of hoarders buried alive. Not my cup of tea but for the true rummagers out there, there was a lot of stuff to look through.

While driving north on Halsted Street, I looked over to where Barney’s of New York Co-op had been but closed, I did a double take something was in the vacated space. I was so surprised I went around the block to see what was there and found the New Elephant Resale Shop of Chicago, NFP. This is their second location the first location is located at 1145 W. Webster. As stated on their website, «The New Elephant Resale Shop of Chicago is a non-for profit resale shop.» Their proceeds benefit five local charities: Jesse White Tumbling Team, Rotary Club One, The Kids’ Equipment Network, Boys Hope — Girls Hope of Illinois, and Friends for Youth. They accept donations that can be brought to their stores or larger donations are picked up for free. The Halsted Street location has only been open for three weeks and they are bring more inventory in each day. This location has a lot of unusual pieces and antiques to contemporary items for sale. When I was there I saw furniture, antique items and artwork, men’s and women’s clothing, a lot of vintage items and many others interesting objects. You can find just about anything from a hand carved wooden statue of an animal, an old fashion coffee bean grinder that you would find in the grocery store, to a gigantic basketball game. There was even a beautiful child’s play refrigerator and range made out of wood that was hand painted. At this point there were only a few racks clothes and a few purses, but more are coming! The staff is friendly and greet the customers as they coming into the store. In addition, some of the staff volunteers their time and are eager to help customers. Large purchases can be delivered for a reasonable fee. Since this is a new location that has only been open for a few weeks it is hard to give a rating. The quality and prices of the merchandise that was in the store was very good to excellent condition, but there were a limited amount of items presents. In addition they carried many unusual items one of a kind that you would not see at other resale shops. The service was five star, the staff was very knowledgeable and able to answer questions about each item. There for I am giving New Elephant Resale Shop of Chicago, NFP, 5 stars in the hopes that more great new merchandise arrives soon!
