I am a long time customer of Nicks and often visit on long layovers in Chicago. I am a huge fan of their gyros. The meat is tender, tasty and delicious. What Nick’s lacks in décor they definitely make up for in the quality and flavor of their Gyros.

Came in late no one really there and ordered the Philly cheese steak. Avoid this as there’s no flavor and huge bread that was oversized for the meat. The bread was toasted nicely. Fries were ok. Worst part was the older white haired man who put my order together. Basically threw my sandwich on my tray so the basket was tilted on its side. Didn’t even bother to fix it as he was busy doing nothing. The cook was the only one who acknowledged as I left saying thank you. Gave the 1 star for that last acknowledgment. Other than that definitely a zero star a day not coming back

I have been coming to this place since I was a kid. My little league team is still posted on the wall. I really love this place because of the neighborhood it’s in and the burgers are great. I definitely recommend the gyros or the double bacon burger with cheese fries. I have tried everything, but I can never go wrong with those two options! I really would recommend this place to anyone coming to check out the Edison park area.

Best gyros I’ve ever had. The tzatziki sauce is amazing, it’s my favorite. And the pita is cooked, too many places just give you a cold shitty pita, you won’t get that at nicks! The beef and burger are good but for first timers get the gyros. I also recommend trying the chicken kabob plate. Finally the staff here is super cool and friendly, been coming here for years.

I’ve been going to this Nick’s for 39 years. I judge all my other gyros to Nick’s. Honestly, I’ve never found one better. Gyro meat is piled on. Sauce is always perfect.

A childhood favorite! A neighborhood staple, my family often ordered here growing up. I’ve never had any complaints. The Chicken Kebob Sandwich and Plate are both delicious and a great value. The tzatziki sauce is always fresh and tasty. Of course, the Gyros are The Best Homemade Gyros in America! How could you go wrong?! Make sure not to skip out on a Chocolate Boston Shake. There’s ice cream IN the milkshake!

They have been doing this since the 70s so they must be doing something right. Classic neighborhood burger, dog and gyro joynt. The gyros are made to order and off the spit as they should be. They also drop fries when you order, so they are always hot made fresh. A little pricey for what you get. Gyros fries and a small Coke was $ 10.25 I’m admit that I’m an odd duck, but when the heat kicked on the place smelled like urinal mint. Odd indeed. Next time you want fast food, I’d come here instead of the chains.

I passed by this place hundreds of times and never went in. That changed recently, and I was pleasantly surprised. The staff is very friendly and nice. Our order was taken quickly and came up fast as well. While we waited(we were taking out), we were asked if we wanted any water while we sat. We declined, but thought that was a good gesture to make while customers waited. Both my husband and I ordered the gyros plate, and we were not disappointed. The meat was so tender and tasted great. We had more than enough food for dinner and lunch the next day! My only complaint is that I should have ordered another pita to go with all the extra food! We will certainly be back!

I’ve been going here for over 30 years now, even when I lived out of town and would just be back for brief visits, and it’s my favorite gyros restaurant, both in Chicago and anywhere. My kids also love the cheeseburgers and Italian sausage. Basically, everything we’ve tried here has been good. Not a big fan of the fries, but it’s just not my favorite type. I’ve tried a couple of the daily soups recently, and they’ve been pretty good, too. A few weeks ago I got home with my gyros sandwich and discovered they had forgotten the tzatziki sauce. I wasn’t willing to drive the 10 minutes back, but called, and after a sincere apology from one of the two brothers who apparently own it, I was assured I could have a free sandwich if I came back either later that night or the next day. I went in the next day and got(for free, as promised) what was probably one of the best sandwiches I’ve had since I started going there years ago. I understand sometimes we humans make mistakes. To me, how they’re handled makes all the difference. They handled it well, and I was completely satisfied.

Good gyro but definitely not the«best in America». They put barely any meat on my gyro. I would go back but only if I had no other places around.

Fantastic Angus burgers! Try the Greek potatoes, they are fantastic. Not sure if separate on menu just ask. I never had anything I didn’t like from them.

I remember when my friend growing up used to own this since then it has changed hands. Still looks pretty much the same as it did before the food was really good the porches just seems a little bit smaller but everything was friendly any questions asked or answered and it was quick fresh and good food.

Little pricey. Not bad. Great fries. The baklava was excellent. Outdated booths and décor but who cares really?

I’ve been here a few times and the hospitality is like none other. Pappou in the front is so very nice and always happy! He puts a huge smile on my face from the second I walk in. The food is also great, never a hit or miss, always on point. Small parking lot but the food is awesome! Check it out! Another great Chicago spot.

I’ve been here numerous times but I’ve never tried the chicken until now. I ordered the bbq chicken and it was delicious. The sauce was a little too vinegary which is why I’m giving 4 stars but everything else was great. The chicken was moist and tender. It fell right off the bone and the skin was tasty. I also ordered fries which I liked because they weren’t too salty. The half chicken also came with Cole slaw and garlic bread. I’m not a fan of Cole slaw so I didn’t even eat it, but the garlic bread was also delicious. It’s not the healthiest meal, but it’s tasty and worth the price. I paid 8 bucks for all the items I listed and it was a good portion. One thing I really liked about nicks is that they have a tv that always plays the sporting events of the Chicago sports teams. It’s an old school diner which I really liked.

Love this place, and have been coming here for over 20 years, which is practically most of my life! I have to say the majority of the mediocre reviews are ridiculous. Is this Fogo de Chao? No, its a gyro & burger place. It has the 70s ambiance, and it has a constant from the 70s, QUALITY, which other places do not. They don’t skimp on ingredients or replace them with poor quality cheaper alternatives, and that my friends is why this place is around and their parking lot packed. I always get a gyro with grilled onions, mozzarella sticks and double cheeseburger and split it with a friend. Call ahead and your order will be waiting for you when you get in, sweet. Fresh ingredients, great quality gyro meat, love it! Some folks commented on pulling into parking lot and only 3 cars being there.(stop by here on a Saturday at noon, and I dare you to park in that lot!!) Are you rating the parking lot or the quality of food? Or another complaining about«maybe its just a bad cut», bad cut of what? bad cut burger? bad cut gyro? I mean you clearly weren’t getting a steak here. Lets be realistic, its fast food, but damn good fast food with an old school touch. I’ve moved out of the area, but still make the drive in just for the quality. This is a family owned and operated place, with the owner or his son at the cashier. Super nice guys, and if you’re a regular you get some special treatment or heck, don’t have to pay the $ 0.04 ending on my tab.

It was a Sunday and my regular go-to gyros place(see my reviews) was closed. I had the craving so, I checked Unilocal for a close place. Nicks was the choice. I read the reviews and it was half and half positive and negative. I figured 1:15 pm was going to be a hassle if the place was popular. Pulled into the parking lot and there were 3 cars. That should have been the first warning shot. There were 4 people sitting in these 70’s sty;e stationary tables with the orange formica, attached bench type seats. I placed my order. $ 6.10 for a gyros sandwich? I figured for that much it should be piled high with meat. I was wrong. I must be spoiled by my regular stop as this place didn’t come close to the amount of meat I get for $ 4.55. What is worse was the meat had little in the way of spices except for an over abundant amount of garlic of which after the digestion cycle will cause the EPA to issue an emergency HAZMAT alert. Now for the grease. Soaked the wrapper and had it not been for the foil protective wrap the bag would have been soaked and surely torn. The tomatos were eldery and mushy, the onions abundant and the tzatzike watery. The fries were actually good but with these prices could have been more generous with the portion size. Next time I have that gyros craving, I will make sure it is every day but sunday so I can go back to my old same place. BIGPEOPLE: Don’t bother eating in. You won’t fit in these booths. I doubt very few over the age of 40 could unless you have a teenagers physique and girth.

Check out my older review but years ago I had dined with this business on a few occasions, however it never hit home for me. Many years ago when the original Nick’s drive-in was operating at Pulaski and Devon(Peterson Park) I visited this Edison Park location and inquired if there was any relation. At the time they said«yes». When inquiring at the(original) in Peterson park, the owner said«No». So I’m driving through the area the other day looking for a lunch spot & feeling like a fish sandwich combo. Didn’t feel like Wendy’s, so thought I’d give this location another go. Quickly scanning reviews on my android via Unilocal,I wasn’t feeling good about it but I noticed the sign was different and omitted the #2 which made me wonder. I walked in and gasped when I saw the owner from the PP location is now here! Now it must be said that the Peterson park location has been closed for many years now, roughly eight years. It had been operating there for about twenty years and it was a neighborhood favorite of all char lovers on the North side of Chicago. It was a solid char grill with fantastic cheeseburgers, Italian beef, Greek food items like gyros, Grecian chicken & etc, barbeque chicken, man you name it, everything char and everything so good. My first time ever trying a triple cheeseburger was via a dare by a friend in elementary school. My first time trying their food, I think I was in the fourth grade and never ceased until the PP location closed. The food was great as was the value and because of word of mouth they would experience crowded lunch hours with lines streaming out of their door. This occurred daily. Man do I miss that place. Solid food. As happy as I was to see the old man and recognize a few other of their long term employees and reminisce, the legend didn’t stand up for today’s times. If someone told me that all of their items were prepackaged I would believe it because it tastes that way. It could all be frozen goods. A fish sandwich with fries and a drink ran me about six and a half dollars which is a deal. Although, the tastes were average. Pricing here is below average for a char grill, in other words its inexpensive but the quality is downgraded from most other Greek owned char restaurants of the same caliber. Today, I wouldn’t think of this spot for a good gyros. It was unfortunate to see them operating like this but won’t tarnish the good memories. The place is dated, like 1980’s dated and is in need of an updated interior and attitude. I gotta say, in today’s time, the new thing is «hand cut» fries. It’s simple. Wash the potato, press it through a hand stamp and then fry. There’s no reason to offer anything but the real thing… Frozen fries were last decade guys!
