The owner responded, sent me a message and threatened me with legal action instead of apologizing. That says alot about him and this establishment! Thumbs down!

Decent ambiance, the worst service I’ve seen in some time and nothing interesting to offer. Walk across the street.

In a city with many Irish bars, this is a feisty raucous bar that has strong drinks, great beer, and great food. The wait staff is friendly albeit wishing you would order a little faster. We found it easy to grab a high top on a Friday night and get some cocktails and enjoy the atmosphere. They do have TVs, not great to watch the game but a good distraction in case you need to check a quick score.

With many classy places in River North, this is a good place to have some drinks and have a good time. No yelling over loud music required! Late night can bring the club-like atmosphere but just bail before that time. They have fun moonshine cocktails which are really good. Some include a blueberry moonshine with Blue Moon and an apple moonshine with Angry Orchard. A liquor and beer blend is always welcome. Staff is friendly and basic food is served here if you get hungry so swing by O’Callaghans and have fun with your friends.

Awesome laid back Irish pub, neighborhood style! If you have bad things to say about this barber, there’s something wrong you, do us a huge favor and get the hell out of Chicago! Bunch of idiot reviewers wrote what a bad sports bar it is??? IT’S NOT A SPORTSBAR!!! They have TVs and show sports, you’re tools. Also mutha hubbards isn’t a dive bar, you sound like a stupid ass. «pete’s» responses to the bad reviews make me love this place more! We met him & he gave us a round of shots when we told him we loved the responses– so say that to him! Food is awesome to– fabulous burger!!!

I went to this place last night. I was in Chicago for a conference and several attendees told me it was a great spot. So I decided to try it out. Even though it sits in mainstream downtown Chicago it has a neighborhood atmosphere to it. I was there at 7:00 pm on a Monday night. The crowd was descent but and there was a high table right by the window so I was able to watch all the action on the street. I ordered a local beer and perused the menu. I ended up having a mixture of all the appetizers. Everything was great and the service was above par. I was there for approximately 50 minutes and the waitress checked on me 4 times. Not intrusive at all, she was just making sure I was taken care of. There was a gentleman who was making his way around to everyone’s table. He clearly had way too much to drink and was carrying a cup full of «Henny». Apparently he had whom the lottery some time ago and now his money was all gone and he felt it necessary to tell everyone about it. And he wanted to share his Henny with everyone. Only if you drank it out of the cup he was using. No Thanks! This went on way too long and a few people left. I’m sure they would have stayed if anyone in a supervisory role would have asked him to stop. But no one ever did. The staff just seemed to let it go, hoping he would stop or leave. When I left he was still there. Aside from the wandering lottery winner I really liked the place. I would the recommend it to anyone and I did. So I do anticipate I will return there again before I head back to AZ.

This bar stands out from the other bars on Hubbard because it is not trendy and does not try to be– thank goodness. This is a reasonably traditional Irish Bar, but with a we above average late night menu and juke box. The bartenders are friendly. Come to think of it, the only things that would make it better is if the bar was if it wasn’t so crowded and wasn’t located on Hubbard Street.

Gord and I had a late supper at O’Callaghan’s. Gord ordered Fish & Chips, swapping his fries for onion rings. He said it was good. I ordered Chicken & Chips. It was okay … fairly basic. Brittany was our server. She was friendly and took good care of us.

This bar was in the midst of several night life establishments and bars. We popped in and had a few beers — standard bar stuff. The staff was outstanding, even the bouncers were polite when they told us the outdoor seating area was closing. The waitress helped us move inside, and we were lucky to find a group that was leaving. We hung around a lot longer and enjoyed chatting with our waitress. I’d go back again. This is a good place to just hang with friends.

Great atmosphere. Lively, friendly and diverse crowd even in a Monday night Meg and Allison are the best. Super friendly and fun. Check it out when you are in Chicago.

Every time I visit Chicago, I always stop by O’Calaghan’s for a drink. In a city flooded with Irish pubs, this one is a solid choice. They have plenty of beers to choose from, and although it can get crowded on the weekends, service isn’t too bad. The place is somewhat cramped, although the second level opens things up bit.

Even though it was quite buy for a Sunday night, I was still able To find a sole seat at the bar. Was greeted promptly by an attentive bartender which made sure I had a beer in no time at all. Upon placing my Togo food order he informed me of the kitchen rush, with being in no rush of my own I didn’t care. It was 2:30am Sunday after a house of blues concert and this is the only late bar nearby; I get it. Throughout the wait for my food I was attentively looked after and never had my drink go low. For downtown, affordable drinks, late kitchen, and good staff.

Stopped in for a drink on a Friday, early evening. The downstairs bar was crowded so we ended up in the less-appealing upstairs bar. Nothing to get excited about. Update: I had originally noted the entertainment of seeing what we thought was someone stealing tips. It was odd enough that we mentioned it to the bartender. Didn’t mention any name or description in my review but the owner took care of that for me in his nasty response. As the place is camera’d up the wazoo I’m going to assume we were mistaken and regret that I mentioned it in my review. In summation, I might have returned for the downstairs only but now knowing the sort that runs this place, uh… no.

This place is my idea of a perfect Chicago bar. It’s very much a hole in the wall. The service is exceptional, and the food is better than many of the same style of establishments in the Loop. I rode and walked 30min to get to this place, and it has been worth it every time. My first night in Chicago, I stumbled onto this little pub on accident. I was in the area, and it seemed inviting, so I walked in. The bartenders(Sam and Matt) were very relaxed and struck up a conversation with me while I relaxed with an incredible left hand stout. It was nice to come in from the sub-zero temperatures and warm up with such friendly staff and refreshing beer. Both of them recommended good places to get a taste of the real Chicago, and we’re very friendly in a natural way. At the end of the day, I felt happy to have come here, and I came back as much as I was able. I thought places like this only existed in TV. When I move to this city, this little pub is going to become my regular bar.

We ended up here thanks to our rouge cab driver(i.e. lucky accident). It was the end of the night and all we wanted was a laid back/chill bar to end the night with some fried food. We snagged seats at the end of the bar and the bartender, Sam, took care of us. He immediately took drink orders. We ordered chicken nachos, which also arrived quickly in front of us. At the time we were pretty sure this was the most amazing thing we had ever eaten. In retrospect, the nachos were enjoyable, but probably not the best meal ever consumed. The chips were good and topped with guac, which is usually an extra on the order. Drinks appeared well made and we devoured the food. O’Callaghan’s was just what we wanted. The four stars are based on the good experience we had on the night we stopped in. A big thanks to Sam for making it a good one.

We came here on recommendation from a friend. Meh. This place isn’t bad by any means… but I also wasn’t impressed. I had the egg rolls and you could tell they were microwaved. Part of them were ok but other parts were like lava! So much of my mouth was burnt by the time I was done it was ridiculous. Aside from that they were pretty tasty. Even if they were from the freezer. My boyfriend had the grilled cheese and said it was your average cheese sandwich. Nothing to write home about. That pretty much sums up the whole experience… average.
