Wonderfully hipster and warm, Osmium(Dark Matter) serves some legit lattes. Try the Mayan Mocha, with cayenne pepper, for a spicy start to the day. Service is impeccable, with friendly baristas and cashiers. There’s plenty of seating, great music, and outlets for a productive day.

Mayan Mocha! Hit the spot and never had coffee with cayenne before today. Nice folks and a cool bar type vibe here.

Love love love osmium. They have a really cool environment to hang out in(although not a ton of space) and an outdoor area in the back. Love hanging out at the counter and talking to all the people that work there. Very good coffee too with basically free refills.

Stumbled across this place after leaving crossfit. It’s literally a hidden gem. I wouldn’t normally say this but it’s better than Starbucks(shhhhh) since it was my first experience the guy gave me my drink on the house! I’ll be back there’s more I’d like to try. Thanks!!!

This place has changed how I do coffee! Checked it out with a friend last week and enjoyed every moment. I love how there is an actual bar where they have the coffee behind the counter. The vibe in here is great, although the music can be lowered just a tad bit. The staff is incredible! The ambiance can be amazing at any place but if the staff is horrible then as a patron you’d never want to go back. It’s really cool connecting with the staff here and I was most happy about that. I went with the Mayan Mocha which put me in the perfect state of mind! I also had one of their black coffee pours before I left. This is going to be my new coffee shop spot.

The Mayan Mocha brings me closer to god. Chocolately, spicy explosion in your mouth. A must for anyone that steps into Osmium.

Hooray for excellent coffee in Lakeview! This is a great spot to grab a coffee to go(though note that they put a lot of work into their espresso drinks so be prepared to wait 4 – 6 mins), sit down with friends, or work/study. Dark Matter Coffee is always good and the service excellent.

I wanted to love this place but it bothers me that they rotate coffee so frequently and don’t always have a regular flavored roast brewing. Each time i go in, they have a few different coffee roasts and sometimes they are both bizarre(i.e., fruity, chocolaty). Yes, the specialty roasts can be very good but sometimes they aren’t. I’d like to be able to pick a coffee that i like and be able to get that same coffee there each time I go. Coffee aside. The place has good vibes and friendly people working behind the counter. They also have Do Rite donuts. YUMMM!

I love, love, love Osmium Coffee Bar! I recently had the opportunity to check out Osmium and feel instantly in love. I am a huge fan of corky looking places that has a lot of funky art work plastered around the room. I don’t know really know how to describe the overall theme of Osmium because they have a ton of skull and skeleton designs around with a giant pipe design on the wall. Normally those random designs would throw me off but if you look at the pipe design you will be completely impressed. Osmium is slightly on the pricey side when it comes to cafes but the quality of the food and coffee definitely shows. I had the chance to try out the blueberry tea which smelled and tasted delicious. The tea was recommended by one of the staff at Osmium. My friend tried one of the chocolate chip cookies which tasted like cookie dough ice cream. If you have the chance to check out Osmium ask one of the staff for their suggestions. They will not lead you wrong!

They always play Gwen Stefani if you let them know you are apart of the No Doubt illuminati. The purple chairs are amazing. Everyone that has ever worked there is 10⁄10 Do yourself a favor and order a cortado. Best place to come if you want to watch online dating meet-ups.

Friendly staff. Great coffee. Warm atmosphere. This is my favorite place in the city to write/read/get work done. Osmium is the perfect spot to go by yourself or with friends to catch up on work or just catch up. The wait staff is incredibly approachable and eager to help. A coffee menu can be intimidating for non-coffee drinkers, but the folks at Osmium are both knowledgeble and patient. They will take you through the menu to help you find something that fits your tastes, and if you don’t like it they will work with you until you do. My personal fave is the Agave Latte. I like my coffee a little of the sweeter side(but not oo sweet), and it gives me that morning boost that I need. Recommend!

Recently, I asked three different Chicagoans in three different parts of the city which Chicago coffee is the best. They all said«Dark Matter» — particularly the Unicorn Blood blend(The name itself merits investigation). One place this can be had is in Lakeview at Osmium Coffee Bar. We had walked by this small establishment a number of times with great interest so we were excited to finally have an afternoon coffee break here. Our opinion? We like this place with it’s row of tables against a wall on one side and a long old wooden bar on the other. A few tables in the backyard too. Funky artwork on the wall. Neon sign behind the bar. It’s hipster but cozy with very friendly baristas. Definitely a good place to return this winter for a bottomless cup of their delicious coffee. Or if we feel like really going all out and treating ourselves — a mayan mocha or an agave latté. This time we simply had coffee and a small pot of fabulous lemony basil oolong tea. No complaints.

A cool coffee shop where you can get work done . The coffee is light and sweet. There are huge tables to work at and even large tables in the back patio area . The only downside: the Internet !!! The wifi signal is very erratic and it’s super strong for a little bit and then stops and then weak, it’s just all over the place ! this is the only reason for the four star.

Osmium is good drinks, awesome waitstaff, easy location, superb local and beyond tunes, and a super comfortable space. The tables are large, there are plenty of outlets, and I will definitely be revisiting! My only small complaint is that the co-ed bathroom could use a scrub down and slight refresh. Nothing terrible, but there is a sliver of room for improvement on that. Looooooove Osmium!

Probably the coolest coffee bar I’ve ever been to. The art on the walls is awesome, the people behind the counter are awesome, and best of all: the coffee is awesome. Sure do wish it was cheaper but hey, I’d pay above-Starbucks prices for coffee as delicious as this. I had the Mayan Mocha, which is more of a fall drink. It beats the pants of a PSL any day of the week.

Typical dark matter with friendly staff and a nice space for sitting. The tables were almost all full of people clearly hunkered down for the morning with laptops. The specialty lattes both have chocolate, but I got the agave because the barista said it was lighter. It was quite sweet, sweeter than I’d make it, but very nice nonetheless. The flavors were delicate, but I could taste all of them. The aftertaste was coffee, not milk, which was nice.

Do you often play the«highs and lows» ice-breaker game as part of team-building exercise? Let me tell my «high» for the day: the Mayan mocha from the Osmium Coffee Bar. After dinner at Del Seoul in Lincoln Park, I felt my dinner wouldn’t be completed without a cup of quality coffee from a local coffee shop. We walked to Osmium, located two(2) blocks west from the CTA Belmont Red/Brown/Purple Line station. The coffee menu was rather simple, so I made my decision quickly. I’ve heard some high praises on their Mayan mocha. Those accolades were certainly legit. Do you like the spicy undertone coming from the cayenne pepper? For some reason I go bananas for cayenne pepper in the coffee. I have a similar obsession to the«Ipsento» from Ipsento in Bucktown, minutes from the CTA Western Blue Line station(O’Hare branch). The ambiance was relaxing, great for hanging out with friends or surfing on the web with your PC, Mac, or i-Pad. There are swivel chairs by the windows for you Unilocalers’ «people-watching» pleasure. I will be back for the Mayan mocha. I’m kind of glad that the nearby coffee shop in my neighborhood doesn’t have this on the menu. Otherwise, I would need to set aside an extra $ 50/per month just for feeding my coffee addiction!

If you want to feel like a fire has been lit in your throat, order the Mayan Mocha. I’m not saying this is necessarily a bad thing, but this drink packs a spicy punch — right to your throat — IF you don’t sip carefully. I love a good independent coffee shop, and that’s what Osmium is. The employees are friendly, and drinks are prepared with care. There is complimentary bottled water on each table. There are a number of tables, and stools at the bar and window, but the four-top tables were mostly occupied by one and two-person parties. Lots of laptop campers here too. A nice alternative to other coffee places.

Starting with Dark Matter coffee is always a good way to ensure some extra bonus stars. Mix in some tasty espresso drinks, don’t need too many options, just something a little out of the ordinary, they hit that here with the Mayan Mocha and the Agave Latte. Both sounded delicious but I went with the Agave Latte as I was feeling a little less like chocolate at the moment. The baritas were swinging along to the cool tunes of TLC. The only downside of this place is that it’s a little small, so it’s probably not the best place to bring a big group or to count on a lot of space. But for a nice neighborhood place to grab a cup of coffee Osmium is definitely going to deliver.
