Parker’s

Until a few weeks ago, I would have given an awesome review of Parker’s but then this happen…
I have been a customer for over 7 years. I discovered them and loved that they were a local business with a focus on natural foods for dogs and cats. When I found that they had grooming services, I tried them out. The service was great so I stopped going to PetSmart and exclusively only because a patron.
So over the years, I’ve taken my dogs early for there grooming appointments because of other commitments that needed to be made. They’ve allowed me to drop the dogs off over an hour before their appointment. I tried not to do this often but it was nice to know they were ok with this from time to time.
Now fast forward to a few weeks ago. I had to drop the dogs off 1 hour early because I had an appointment on the other side of town. The guy at the grooming desk proceeded to tell me no and that that was their policy. I told him about my past incidents and I was not aware of their policy. I even said moving forward that I would abide by it because I’m not «one of those» customers. He was dismissive and didn’t care. He didn’t care that I’ve been bringing my two dogs there for years. He didn’t care that I was in a bind. He didn’t care that the next available appointment that I could bring them back was three weeks later. He just didn’t value me at all. When I asked for the manager, he smugly told me that he was the manager. At that point, I gave up because if he’s management and that’s his view of customer support then there was no point. I rescheduled and I left.
Now I’m strongly considering taking my business elsewhere. I support local businesses because I believe a strong community that supports each other and respects each other is great. This guy showed me no respect and clearly doesn’t value me as a customer.

Parker’s is THE place to go to for all things pet-​related in Hyde Park. They are extremely knowledgable and always helpful. I run a local dog waking and pet care service and I never hesitate to recommend Parker’s to my customers for everything from pet food, to toys, to simple advice. If ever I have a question about pet care or training (you are never too old or too experienced to learn new things!) they are the first people I call. They also love to help out other local businesses and frequently host events to raise money for various causes and nonprofits. I am exceedingly impressed with their business practices all around and am so grateful to have a business such as Parker’s in our neighborhood.

We have a new dog in our family named Max that just came into our lives. He just loves coming here. One is the staff at least most of them, They don’t mind allowing your dog into the store as long as he is well behaved. They also offer a self service dog wash which is another thing my do just loves he jumps right in. One of the people at the store recommended that we give our dog goat’s milk to help with stomach issues he was having and it worked. When we came back and told her she was so happy which showed that she is concerned about the well being of the pets that come into the store. They have many other great products as well from food to accessories for dogs, cats and other pets.

The prices have gradually increased overtime. In comparison to shopping elsewhere, the dog food is a bit expensive. The services are still good and the people great (Michael is really good with our dogs and the groomers do nice work). I love the do it yourself dog wash… Amazing price for the service!
We can’t frequent them as often as we like :(but we try to as much as we possibly can to keep supporting local business.

I absolutely, positively LOVE this place! I picked my black lab, 7 week old puppy up in Michigan in January of 2014, drove back to Chicago, and immediately carried him into Parker’s saying «help?» He is my first dog on my own, and I feel like the staff at Parker’s has helped to raise him, after all it «takes a village» right? Throughout the last year and half, the Parker’s staff has become friends. All of the employees are extremely knowledgeable about pet food, health, and care. They truly LOVE animals and care about the community. The entire staff is well-​trained, friendly, and cares about your pets needs. If they don’t have what you want, they will try their best to get it for you. They have amazing fresh raw bones that my dog goes crazy for. My lab has allergies and all along the way they have helped guide me to the right nutritional choices and have offered worthwhile advice.
Now I truly love all of the staff, but I read a poor review on here about Michael. So let me say something about him. Michael is amazing! He is knowledgeable about pet care, he’s HONEST, and he’s just an all-​around good person. Those are very good qualities for someone helping you to determine what to feed your dog. If you have a question, he has an answer or will go out of his way to find one for you. Side-​note: Cindy is the only person that my pup will let cut his nails. I’m pretty sure that if my dog ever got loose he would run straight to Parker’s and open the door himself. He loves it there and loves all of the staff, especially Michael, and I am convinced he is a great judge of character because he doesn’t like just anyone.
My pup has grown up here, and if I ever move to a different part of the city I will continue to come to Hyde Park just for Parker’s.

The place is nice and small, selection is ok but not that large. I’ve gone twice: they were always polite but not incredibly helpful. When I asked once for some advice for my dog, they were quick to recommend a product, but couldn’t suggest any trainers that could help. Ideally, they could carry a bit of a better variety of some items like dog beds.

They have a supply of frozen chicken and salmon nuggets from Primal Pet – the complete cat diet plan. My rescued Bengal, who used to be dangerously thin, likes it so much that I am now worried about him getting FAT. Score! Their hours are good, too. And their foster cats are adorable.

Parker’s is a great little local business. They carry high quality dog products and have a groomer on site. They are always friendly and welcome pups in the store. I buy my dog’s food there and regularly get her nails trimmed.
One warning, always call before going to use any type of groomer service. They do not reliably have someone available during all business hours, which can be annoying for a simply nail trim. Also a friend recently tried to book an appointment with their groomer and was told it would be a month before they could be seen. Hope this type of wait isn’t typical as they are otherwise an awesome place and so much more convenient than going to the chain stores downtown.

I really don’t get the two recent reviews of Parker’s. Sounds like sour grapes to me. Parker’s is the best place to go for high-​quality natural products for your dogs and cats. If you want less expensive, lower quality items, get in your car and drive to Petsmart. Parker’s staff is very helpful and knowledgeable, have steered me to items that my dog loves and are good for her, and we are lucky to have such a store in our neighborhood. I don’t mind spending more money when I know it is of the highest quality.

This place is awesome. Pricey, but lots to choose from. I have a lab, so you can imagine the chew toys and treats last for like 3 minutes and in the end, he looks just as happy after he’s done rolling around on a dead squirrel #labownerproblems
Anyway, what I will say, I was incredibly impressed with the integrity of the staff. The last time I was in there, a man had brought his Scottie in for grooming. Apparently, the dog was riddled with tics. Not cute. He yelled at the counter dude for the extra charges (obviously there would be extra charges, you dick). The counter guy was awesome. He calmly explained why there was an extra charge (dogs’ and humans’ safety). It was impressive to watch. The staff clearly sees the bigger picture and a tic infestation would not be cool. I actually ended up purchasing additional anti tic items because of this.

This rating is specifically in regards to my grooming experience at Parker’s.
I wanted to have my Maine Coon kitty styled with an adorable lion cut, to both cut down on the shedding and have him look a little less like a giant furball. He has never been groomed before, so I had my concerns, as did he. When I met the groomer, I was immediately a little concerned. I tried to express how I wanted the cut to look (I’ve seen some very poorly done lion cuts…), and was met with some resistance to my vision. After trying to negotiate my way through the styling, I was ready to start the process, but still feeling a bit uneasy. Unfortunately, the groomer came across as a bit of a know-​at-​all, and didn’t seem to understand or sympathize with my concerns. I was largely worried about handing my cat off to her without being in the grooming room to help keep him calm (he is very strongly attached to me, and doesn’t do well with strangers, especially strangers with sharp objects.) When I asked whether I could stay with him for the groom, she said very sharply, «animals are always more anxious when the owner is in the room.» A sweeping generalization that I did not agree with. I tried to trust her, and handed him off, knowing deep down that this would not end well. Lo and behold, 10 minutes later I received a phone call that he would not allow her to groom him. I can’t say I was surprised.
I will continue my search for a groomer, one that will be able to listen and understand my concerns instead of talking at me in condescending tones. As a pet owner trying to navigate my way through the first-​time grooming process, I’m looking for someone with quite a bit more empathy.
I would like to add that I am giving Parker’s two stars instead of one, due to another employee who gave me some helpful advice about organic foods that would help to cut down on my cat’s shedding. She made the experience slightly less unpleasant.

I lived in Hyde Park for a number of years and I started shopping here for my cat, Chimi, shortly after Parker’s opened. I was so impressed with their knowledge of pet products and the customer service they provided. It is immediately evident that the staff at Parker’s actually care about your pet. I now have two dogs and I no longer live in Hyde Park, but I still come here for Nemo’s and Dory’s dog food and other dog supplies, because Parker’s is simply the best. They have made the most wonderful suggestions for my dogs’ health and I have never been disappointed.

Just stopped in because I’m new to the neighborhood and live 2 blocks away! They have a huge assortment of treats, including bulk loose treats that you can mix for your pup; leashes, clothes, food, toys, etc. My dog went crazy when we were in there.
The two women working were so nice and welcomed us the minute we stopped in. They checked in to see if we had any questions and they answered all of my questions! We will definitely be back.

I found Parker’s Pets about 3 years ago and despite its (then) small space, I was impressed by their selection of dog clothes. I returned about a year later (I live in the suburbs), and purchased a necklace, clothes, stuffed birthday, and a birthday cookie for my dog who almost did not make that birthday due to IMHA. Several months later I returned to do retail therapy on the day of my aunt’s funeral. I bought a puzzle and an hour later I received a call from my bank that someone had stolen my credit card info. Due to that happening after I left Parker’s Pet (and not having gone anywhere else) and the distance it takes to get there, I did not go to back until this month. On my way from taking a relative for a surgical consult, I decided to stop and treat my newest rescue. I purchased a martingale collar, which turned out to be too big. I looked at the receipt for the return policy (according to the receipt I could return the collar), but called as well. I was told it was returnable, but when I tried to return the collar for a refund I was told there was no cash refund, but a store credit. I only go there maybe once a year. There are tons of boutiques in Chicago (like Dog –a-​holics and Jameson Loves Danger) and they will get my return business.

I am new to having a pet, but my sister recommended this place. Her Yorkie poo had puppies (She still has some left for sale, if anyone is interested let me know :)). I have a male Yorkie Poo named Zeus and he is awesome. I get his treats, food, chew toys everything from here. The staff is great and they have a lot of variety of toys, bones, bowls, leashes. I will be back.

I can’t really say enough good things about Parker’s. Before moving to Chicago, I’d never lived in an area that boasted its own local pet supply and had to stick with chains like Petco, PetSmart, and Hollywood Feed. While you first might go to Parker’s because you’ve run out of dog food, my bet is that you’ll be making Parker’s into your weekly routine, just to give your dog the regular experience of being treated to a trip. Not only do they stock pet foods impossible to find anywhere else in the neighborhood, but their staff takes the cake for being some of the most engaging customer service anywhere in Hyde Park. If you come in regularly, your dog no doubt will be met with ooh’s and coos when you open the door. On top of this, their pet wash stations are extremely affordable and offer a variety of shampoos and conditioners (try the sweet pea… pretty sure the scent lingers for weeks). Our dog’s favorite, though, is the incredible snack bar where for 7.99, owners can grab a decent sized plastic container and fill it to the brim with assorted biscuits. They also have lots of toys and a nice supply of chews.
Overall, Parker’s is an experience your dog will want to put on repeat, and understandably so.

I’m not too generous when it comes to reviewing with all 5 stars but I adore this pet store. I have lived all over the country with my boxer for 10 years, and have a 2 year old lab mix, and this place is by far my fav.
Their customer service is amazing, they LOVE animals, they are phenomenal with helping out with foods that fit both dogs, I’ve never needed grooming service with my boxer, so was worried to take my very skiddish puppy in to get her nails clipped, but they were awesome, in and out in minutes and she didn’t even seemed phased.
Love them. For everything.

I found this Pet Store today and I went in to buy a Cat Shampoo and the gentleman that helped me was super helpful and gave food samples for my pet! I’m going to go there for now on to buy my pets needs! I also have tons of fish and a hermit crab so I will definitely accumulate points for rewards! You can get $ 25 for every $ 250 you spend much better deal than petsmart!!!

Special order took a month but it’s readily available at other vendors? Why have to special order in the first place?

I am so glad this place opened in Hyde Park. Perfect for my little Dib’s needs. He gets his groom on, we can grab some great treats and he has his pick of healthy food. In the summer we stop by for a little ice cream treat after a nice walk or a stressful visit to the vet. The staff is friendly and they actually make an effort to remember you and your pet.

My dog was in need of a bath very badly and I really didn’t have the time to drive all the way to soggy paws. So i decided to give Parker’s self wash a try. What I really liked was that they had a sign that laid out the steps to follow for the best bathing experience. However I guess since I’ve been going to my other spot forever, this space seemed a little cramped. I think the advantage I had was that I went on a week day, I can’t imagine the chaos on a Saturday. If I’m in a pinch, I would definitely return.
