Best beef in the area! Best gardinera! If you can, go in and order your food. We’ve tried delivery twice from them and both times they have been sub par — skimpy portion, lukewarm and despite living 10 minutes from them it took over an hour to be delivered. So now I suck it up, put my pants back on and go get it myself. The owner is a really nice guy who seems to know a lot of his customers and there’s always a good conversation to be had while waiting for the NW side’s greatest beef.

This used to be my go to Italian beef. When I was just out of high school there was no Italian Beef any better anywhere nearby and this is chicago. They are a small place with some cool little bar style seating if your looking to eat in. Get the beef extra juicy and you won’t regret it.

Awesome beef and sausage sandwich with sweet peppers. Great flavor and tender meat. Had it «wet» which is a great choice.

Charged me $ 4 for an Italian ice which i thought was a little much. Then one of the workers asked me if i wanted to buy a pizza for $ 10 that looked like it had been sitting for a week. Dont think i will return.

Pretty good food! I got a chili cheese dog(not on the menu, but I just asked for it) and fries. There was a LOT of cheese on my dog, which was great for me, but up to you to decide if you want that. The chili had a really nice spiciness to it that cut through the gooeyness of the cheese. I only wish that the hot dog was bigger– the toppings definitely took the star role — I could barely taste my dog. As for the fries, they weren’t too hot(temperature wise) or salty. They were not soggy, however. Pretty okay. Not outstanding. The cashier was friendly and funny, he offered my boyfriend a special they’re having(don’t remember exactly… think it was Italian beef and a Polish sausage in one sandwich), which he didn’t get. Overall, I’d say this place is worth stopping in if you’re in the neighborhood and craving something salty. Still doesn’t beat Portillo’s for chili cheese dogs. Good prices, too. I paid $ 15 for me and my boyfriend’s whole meals.

I’ve been going to Roma’s many years and haven’t been there in a while so decided to skip all the great beefs places I go to and stopped in here. The beef was the worst I’ve had! The bread was stale and they dipped the bread to hide that I think, the peppers I think were from last week, the hot peppers were also stale! I know a good beef and this use to be a great place I don’t know what happen but every time I try to give it a shot it’s always horrible but today beef was by far the worst ever! I mean who are you trying to fool with this beef? Real Chicagoans know a good beef. I gave to stars cause the service is good otherwise it woulda got —-0. Jeez!

Although I moved away about a year ago, this place by far has the best Italian beef I have ever had in Chicago! Honestly, I still drive back to Chicago just to get this once in a blue moon.

Great beef, the Italian beef sandwich is a Chicago classic… It’s in my top 3 favorite Italian beef places in the city. Number one being Johnnie’s beef, number two being Mr Beef on Orleans… Number three being Romas. each place has their unique blend of spices that the beef marinates in the juice. At Romas the tender juicy delicate beef/bread melts in your mouth. They’re hot jardineria is delicious, ads that spicy kick to any sandwich. Bring your out of state friends and family you won’t be disappointed.

Now under new ownership and they have restored Roma’s to it’s earlier glory. I can recommend the combo wholeheartedly.

I’ve been going to Roma’s for over 10 years now. Sometimes on a weekly basis and sometimes I’ve gone a year without it, but recently stopped by and noticed it was under new ownership. I was hoping they hadn’t changed much to one of my favorite Italian Beef sandwiches in Chicago… but they did! I should add, I’ve never ordered anything from Roma’s other than Italian Beef, fries and Italian Ice in all these years. That alone has been so good I’ve never wanted anything else. This time around though, the beef was well… different. No longer as flavorful, not sure if it’s the meat or the gravy, but it didn’t taste as good as I remembered and they definitely skimped on the beef as well. They seem to be putting too much focus on pizza and too little on their beef. As disappointed as I am in the beef, it’s still one of the better ones in that area. I won’t go out of my way for their beef like I do for Jay’s, Johnnie’s or Boston’s. It’s not the same Roma’s and it’s definitely not a new & improved.

For more than 20 years, this was THE beef place in Chicago. A gem only known to those who happened to live in the neighborhood that had better beef than any of the proclaimed«best» places for beef in Chicago. Sadly, that’s no longer the case. Sometime in the last 2 years the original owner sold the restaurant and the new owner kept the original recipe for a while, but either because of ingredient costs or lack of interest in taking the time necessary to make the original recipe work, it’s now a pitiful copy of what Roma’s beef used to be. The gravy no longer has that in-your-face punch of flavor that it used to, the beef isn’t as tender as it used to be and the bread is dry compared with the Roma’s of old. I’ve been eating Roma’s Beef since I was about 6 years old having grown up in the Portage Park area, and it’s always my first stop when I fly into town for a return visit. On my last two trips(December of 2013 and June of 2014), it had steadily declined. On the december trip something tasted«off,» but not awful, on my June trip, I mourned the death of my favorite restaurant in Chicago. It’s just not what it used to be. Sadly, Portillo’s now seems to be the best beef in town. With Johnnie’s running a close second.

Great Italian Beef sandwiches with the best giardinera that I’ve ever had. This little Italian Beef place is one of the very best in the entire City of Chicago. It’s a neighborhood treasure. I know my beef sandwiches and have ate at nearly every good Italian Beef place in the City and surrounding suburbs. I can’t think of any off hand that are better than Roma’s on Cicero Ave. They also have good hot dogs(Vienna brand), sausage sandwiches and just added Breaded Steak to the menu. They also sell pizza, whole or by the slice which is pretty good. They have Italian Ice and just added soft serve ice cream. This is a very casual beef stand, there is a counter inside with stools to eat in and picnic tables outside. Friendly servers are pretty spot on with taking and processing orders. I can’t recall ever having an order mishandled here. Roma’s is one of my favorite«go to» places in the neighborhood for a quick bite.

A small Italian Beef place, with just a counter and stools. Honestly everything I have had here has just been okay, nothing particularly bad but nothing particularly good either. Pizza slices were okay. Mozzarella sticks were okay. Italian Ice was okay. Service was alright. For me, the food doesn’t justify the prices(which aren’t outrageous, but a little more than some of the other joints in the neighborhood). They are supposed to be known for their Italian Beef, and I haven’t tried it yet, but even if it’s spectacular, it can’t be the only thing to justify the rest of the menu.
