The only reason I don’t go 5 stars is me getting a little picky on price. The food is much better than average, portion sizes are solid, staff is awesome, atmosphere is awesome, bar and the mixed drinks are killer. Every time I go I end up over ordering because things are so good and when I get the bill I’m always thinking I wish each dish was like $ 2 cheaper… But for the occasional treat, this is a go to spot for us. I love the salsa flight, the bloody’s, the mole and even the steak! Hit it up, you’ll be glad you did.

Meh on the food, service was good. But the food is definitely nothing to write home about except right here for a bad Unilocal review. I concur w/Omar and Jennifer the owner, Sergio is a hack. His business added more money on my credit card and when confronted about it he laughed like a moron. There are so many great Mexican restaurant in Chicago and trust me it is not this place. Go find another and better place to dine.

I highly recommend this place as the best Mexican restaurant in this area. The food is FRESH and highly flavorful. The Margaritas are better than what you usually get at other Mexican restaurants, and less expensive as well. I have ordered carne asada repeatedly and absolutely LOVE it. I’ve been here several times already and will keep coming back. You won’t be disappointed. I would have given this place 5 stars, but the décor is a bit tacky and the service is good but not outstanding.

We finally went to Sergio’s tonight. It was a lovely experience. We had made reservations for Sarurday at 6:30. Not required. I had the chicken Mole, rich but outstanding. Husband had Steak Howard, son had steak fajitas. We all loved the food, the staff and the décor. The Margaritas aren’t bad either. I will definitely go back.

My son and I gave this place a try, based on Sergio’s great reputation. We were not disappointed: My carnitas tacos were first rate, tasting like lechon hasado, and my son’s steak was very good too. Service was excellent, albeit it was a quiet night in the restaurant. We’ll definitely return. Often.

I am rather selective about the ideal Mexican meal. That said, I have enjoyed our two visits(one was because it was bookmarked and the next being because we were asked to dine here by friends) over the last 5 months but it is not my pick and does fall pretty low on my list of preferred Mexican in the OP/Forest Park area. Decent meal, higher than I would expect for a place of its caliber but service was good. Each visit, the servers were very attentive and refills were a constant. If you are in the area, it is without a doubt, a good option.

What a great find. The interior is fascinating, interesting, unique… lovely inside and a huge escape from the hustle and bustle of North Avenue. The servers are friendly and helpful. The margaritas, although basic, are tasty and hit the spot. I loved the chips, salsa, and guacamole. My fish tacos were OK… but my husband had some type of pork taco that the server recommended, and it was flavorful and delicious. My kids loved the wings. We had a group of 8 and found the experience to be excellent. Highly recommend and will be back soon!

The Mole!!! So very good. First timer to this sweet gem so close to home. In addition to my fav neighborhood Mexican restaurants(Maria’s, Las Palmas of Norridge), Sergio’s will now be on my rotation. Margaritas are $ 5, all beers are $ 5. I like the fact that they serve black beans with their dinners instead of a blob of refried beans. I had the chicken enchiladas with Mole sauce. Not one to normally order mole, but I am glad I did! I can’t wait to visit again. Sergio’s is a great addition to the Galewood neighborhood.

Great little gem across the street from Oak Park(on the Chicago Side of North ave). Margaritas are very basic, but not bad, but the food is what will excite you. Generous portions, fresh made tortilla chips and some pretty good wings await you on their menu. Do not pass this place if you are on North avenue, definitely check out this place if you are living in Oak park or nearby.

Coming from someone who’s worked in the hospitality industry for 25 years, and a family that goes to a certain Mexican restaurant 3x a week, …We were excited to try a new place, we were ready to have a wonderful food experience, especially since Sergios sign said it’s the best Mexican food in the world.. Hardly! !! If you know REALMEXICANFOOD, you won’t be fooled.. This is Mexican American food, I’m sorry, American Mexican food. . We were greeted nicely by Sergio, but I think the extra questions on the types of tequila and maybe the fact that we were Table full of Latinas speaking Spanish, and the restaurant was full of Caucasian(nothing wrong with that, but remember you’re in the HOSPITALITY Industry! !! He wasn’t warm and inviting, in a rush and DIDN’T REALLYCARE @ ALL! !!! My chicken soup was the only good thing on the table. Fish tacos were only ok. The combo platter, not good, who has bbq wings on a Mexican platter? Everything on the platter was dry. The ceviche, we couldn’t even keep it. Fishy and no flavor. Very small tequila selection but the drinks were decent. Maybe if we felt more welcomed we’d possibly come back for drinks, but it’s not worth it.

Sergio’s Place, what an unexpected delight. A group of 14 of us dropped in on a Sunday evening. We did call ahead. At first we said we had nine, then called back to say it would be twelve. And then two extras showed up. They accommodated us and even turned down the music when we requested it.(Some of us are old and hard of hearing.) Unlike many places they agreed to give us separate checks and even more rare they did not add on an automatic tip! I’m sure we put some stress on the kitchen which is probably the reason we didn’t see Sergio himself until we had all been served. I heard nothing but compliments up and down the table on the food. I had the Carne Asada and it was outstanding. The steak was tender and full of flavor. We will definitely be back.

Service is Excellent. Restaurant and Restroom Very Clean. Food was Delicious! Sergio’s Place has home made corn tortillas, The Best Enchiladas De Pollo and The Best Enchiladas De Queso with Mole sauce. I am a very picky person when it comes to Mole sauces and I Loved IT! You also Have to try their Shrimp Queso Fundido. My Husband’s Favorite.

I’m tough to please, when it comes to Mexican food – I’d probably give Sergios 3.5 stars, if it were an option. First of f all, I must say I’m thrilled this place is walkable from my house! The atmosphere is super-cute – bright Mexican, Frida Kahlo driven décor with nice, dim lighting. It’s not cheesy, just nice. As for the food… We started with margaritas and the salsa sampler. We were told the margaritas were NOT from a mix – but after a sip it was clear they were. Bummer. The house salsa was fine, the others we tried lacked depth – could’ve used toasted chills and garlic – and were watery. The homemade chips were nice and thin. The winning entrees were the beef Flautas and the Al Pastor tacos – both flavorful and done well. The homemade black beans that accompanied the entrees were also spot-on. Unfortunately, the fish tacos(which sounded promising) were not good – the fish didn’t seem fresh(fishy taste gave it away), and amount of fish was skimpy. Overall, we liked coming here and will continue to try to find favorite dishes. 2 things could put this place to the top of my list – offer a hand-crafted TRUE margarita(just good tequila, Cointreau, and lime) as option to the margarita pre-mix fountain, and finesse true, complex Mexican salsas. These changes along with the existing great atmosphere and they’ll have me for life!

Let me start with what I love about this place … The décor is so traditional Mexican with Frida Khalo inspired canvas. Friendly service and being greeted as soon as we walked in. Our first visit was for Sunday Brunch. The selection was from pancakes, French toast, chiliquilles, eggs, potatoes, beans and rice. Really good variety and all for $ 10 dollars a person. Fresh salsa and chips served quickly at the table side and the salsa was really good. The needs improvement side, which is why the three stars. Food was not as warm as it should be, but the sternos were turned on shortly after we started eating. So monitoring the temperature is something to consider. The Rice. Oh please consider changing this as it not a traditional Mexican good rice dish … Rice and salsa are so key in a Mexican restaurant. They did serve homemade tortillas which I did love and almost gave them 4 stars in this alone. But overall a 3 is appropriate right now … I will say that I WILL come back as I really feel they have something good that can be great… I plan on coming in to try the dinner menu and hope great rice is on the plate In the meantime, stop by for Brunch, I’m looking forward to updating this review shortly. So stay tuned!!! Buen Aprovecho!!!
