I had a bridesmaid dress that needed major alterations… The first quote I got for alterations was $ 170! I cried right there in the cleaners. I went across the street to Smile and thy were able to quickly and nicely fix the dress for &70 ! Highly recommend them for alterations.

Best dry cleaners in town! Notice I said DRY cleaners and not tailor. I have had nothing but great experiences with the dry cleaning. The price is pretty cheap for Chicago and if he breaks any of my buttons he always repairs them the next time at no cost. Great job cleaning sweaters, pants and shirts. This is a family owned place and they work really hard, early hours and most of the weekend. I recently moved to River North and will still drive out of my way up there to get my clothes cleaned.

This is my go-to dry cleaners in the neighborhood fill of alternatives. I go out of my way to take my clothes here when I can walk to the cleaners on Roscoe St. The owners are a sweet couple. The husband looks like how I imagine my best friend from college will look like in 25 years or so. He is always ready to greet customers and knows my name. The prices are very reasonable. The clothes are always ready when promised. Hubby was happy with the repair they did on his torn coat sleeve. One of my favorite coats had many tears in the lining and they did say they can repair it when other places said they could not. However, the cost per tear was too much since it was pretty damaged, so I ended up not doing it.

DONOTGO! I trusted them with tailoring a dress for a wedding and they essentially RUINED the dress. Didn’t take in the parts needed, but decided to take in other sections of the dress. Thank god I decided to double check the dress the night before and had them Redo all the tailoring which still came out messed up. The stitching was so poorly done it started coming apart at the event! For the same party, they messed up my boyfriends pants– so its not just female clothing they can’t tailor. I live a block away and wil never go there again. Just awful!

We love smile cleaners. They do a great job and are so nice. The owner remembers me every time I walk in, even though it’s often months between visits. He always asks me to «say hi to your husband for me.» It’s really sweet :). Since we moved, I go out of the way to come here. I’ve also had several alterations done here and they always do a flawless job – even on trickier jobs like taking in dresses, etc.

I went to Smile Cleaners because of the good reviews here on Unilocal. Indeed, the pros are: 1. the owners were very friendly, 2. They did a good job tailoring my pants. However, they put close to nothing amount of starch on shirts even though it was specified and a note was made on the slip(this happened both times we tried this cleaner). Also, I once had some curtains that need to be shortened and brought them in since they did such a good job tailoring my pants. When I asked how much it would be before leaving, the guy refused to give me a number saying that his wife would set the price. I should have known better at that point. They ended up charging me $ 20 for EACH panel I brought in – even the thin Ikea sheer curtains that are $ 10 a pair(and should be super easy to handle) cost me $ 20*2=$ 40.(Don’t ask me how much I paid in total — I feel like a lamb being slaughtered and I should have known better.) I would not be this bitter if the quality of the work was good — the quality was terrible. The bottom is not even and goes up and down noticeably on the rods. Two stars for customers to be aware.

The always friendly owner does a great job with alterations. I’ve had many, many pairs of pants & skirts hemmed and he’ll even do jeans with the self-hem(for only a slight upcharge). My husband has had pants hemmed and jackets altered with the same success. The loading space out front makes pick-up & drop off really easy.

I know this is corny, but Smile Cleaners has made me smile on my first three transactions here. I moved into an apartment a block away, and although Lotus cleaners is closer, I wanted to give this smaller shop a chance. I’ve had work done on two wool coats and some basic dry cleaning. The first was a heavy pea coat; he reinforced the buttons and shortened the sleeves. The second was a longer dress coat that he shortened(for a more modern look) and took-in the body for a more athletic fit. Both jobs were done impeccably and he gave me a discount for getting them dry cleaned as well. I second one of the previous reviewers, that the owner is incredibly friendly and always remembers you. Every time I’ve walked in here, he says hello and immediately goes to get my items, without me having to pull-out my ticket or give my name. He is also very open to hearing what you want done to your clothing. Overall, great service and quality, and reasonable prices. I will hold off from a 5 star review until I’ve been going here longer and had other types of services done.

My new apartment doesn’t have a washer/dryer(which is devastating) so I take my laundry to this place because it’s sooo convenient. I drop off my laundry bag and pick it up after work or the next morning with everything clean and neatly folded. It’s usually about $ 10 — so cheap! If I go to the laundromat I ended up spending almost $ 8 in quarters not to mention half a day. The couple that owns it are extremely friendly and always remember my name. Bottom line: take your laundry to smile!

This guy does a great job with alterations. I’ve had hips taken in on a skirt, jacket sleeves shortened, numerous pants hemmed, shoulder straps shortened, waist taken in on skirts and pants, lining patched inside leather jackets… as you can see, I’m picky about how my clothes fit and this guy(why don’t I know his name? I will ask him next time) does a great job. And the prices are very very reasonable. Its a short drive for me though since I’ve moved out of the neighborhood 8 years ago, and I’ve tried dry cleaners in my new neighborhood since then but this guy is definitely worth driving to for alterations. Plus, he’s always so friendly and nice and keeps the place really clean.
