Anyone who doesn’t like the Snuggery is a communist. It is in a train station so they will give you to go cups for your beer. It is safe to say that nearly every time in my adult life I have been at Union Station, I have been here. The service is ok, the seating is limited and the beer is reasonably priced. This is really my kind of place. It is a little dumpy, but so are the patrons. I saw a fight here last time and that’s ok with me.

This bar is huge and it has a very convenient location inside Union Station. I was here only once after work to have drinks with coworkers. The service from the bartenders was good. There is a deli in the bar which left my clothes smelling horrible after I got home. I’m not certain I would go back simply based on that but we’ll see. I’m sure I’ll have a train delayed out of Union Station in the near future.

I don’t think that I’ve ever spent more than 20 minutes at the Snuggery. Once a month my friends and I go on a METRA adventure and the Snuggery is our designated meeting spot and watering hole. Hey, waiting for your train is thirsty work, people!

This place blows. The service is terrible. Here waiting for a train. The bartender is totally not prepared for her shift. Forgetful about everything. Didn’t bring silverware for soup/lunch. Not friendly. Not service material. Wont be back. You shouldnt either.

Went here for a drink before the opera. Smells like stale beer, but great ambiance, good service, cheap drinks, friendly bartender, and $ 9 pitchers on Fridays!

What’s a Suggery? (A) A cozy or comfortable place? (B) Metro Deli & Pub’s hotter, cooler sister who lives upstairs? It both! What I love about the Suggery is you can drink there and not feel like you’re hanging out in a train station(as long as you’re on the top or bottom floor). You’ll find 3 bars and during the evening commute home you’ll find beer carts so you can grab one for the road. The walls are filled with memorabilia, the wood is dark and it’s just comfy like you’re sitting in someone’s private bar/den. Nuts on Clark is conveniently located right next door. If you have to walk to the restroom more than once, I guarantee you’ll end up purchasing a bag of popcorn. Go with the Chicago Mix a combo of caramel and cheese corn it goes perfectly with a cold beer. Specials: Everyday: Svedka U-Call It’s $ 5 Monday: Bud & Bud Light Pitchers $ 9 Tuesday: Craft Draft & Cans for $ 4.50 Wednesday: All Wine $ 3.50. Lite MGD& High Life Pitchers $ 9 Thursday: Sam Adams Draft $ 3.50 Friday: All 24oz cans $ 5

A friend of mine was taking the train back to the burbs, so we stopped into the Snuggery for a few drinks before his departure. The doubles of whiskey is a welcome surprise and the drinks were pretty strong. The three levels is interesting as well, we weren’t sure which one to sit on, but ended up in the middle. They also offer«to go» cups should your departure time creep up on you, which is what happened in our case…

A former«home away from home» for me. Since I’m married now and we just bought our first house I feel obligated to go home after work. But when I was single and carefree I would stop here… everyday…on my way home from work. Yes, I was one of those regulars you saw. I have an amazing group of friends(like family) that I met at the bar. That’s how we all met. We work downtown and live in the ‘burbs. We stop in for a few hours before heading out on our respective trains. Though I don’t stop as much I still stop sometimes and see my Snug family. They are now friends with the hubby and were all at our wedding. Anyway, it’s a great place to stop for a drink and some good conversation!

Yeah, it was my first time there and probably my last. Don’t get my wrong, it’s an OK place to have a couple beer while waiting for your wife who doesn’t love you enough to tell her boss she is going to leave 30 minutes early from work. It’s just a little pricey. I think it was like $ 4 – 5 for a pint of Miller Lite. The people watching is great though. There are people yelling to hurry, the Amish creep through and catch you off-guard, and the Trainmen all huddle around the trash cans and star of the women. I look forward to taking my future son there one day.

Thanks to a delay I had to wait at Union Station for an hour for my cousin’s train to arrive. I walked up to the food court and had already had my breakfast and coffee earlier so settled on the Snuggery to relax and wait at. It took me a little while to realize this place was three levels which seemed pretty cool to me. The bartender was incredibly friendly and nice and made for great conversation while I waited. The Miller Lite I had was a great price(I think $ 3) and much lower than you would get at an airport — which is what I had expected. You could also tell that there were a lot of regulars at this bar which I found interesting since it’s in a train station. I enjoyed sitting here, drinking my beer and just watching all the commuters on their way to work.

Need a martini to go? Looking to pound six large, cheap beers, that come in a plastic cup, before heading to work? Want to feel like you are in the basement of your friend’s grandfather? Then the Snuggery is the place for you! Go there every day. Sit on any one of the three levels of this Union Station bar, and you will have a good view of crowds of people rushing for their train while you contemplate the finer points of Old Style. I wish that I lived at the Snuggery.

Great place to grab a quick, reasonable drink before going and drinking somewhere else(Ok, that’s how I use the Snuggery). Daily specials(like $ 2.50 domestic drafts, $ 5 martinis, $ 4 Domestic Premium drafts like Blue Moon, 312). Excellent staff that makes an effort to remember you and say hello. Very welcoming environment with dim lights and interesting pictures from all ages. Get a large wine to go so your teeth are purple by the time you get home to the sig others and kids.

Ok… so… sorry, all the haters out there… need I remind you that you’re in a bar… in… wait for it… wait for it… wait for it… Union Station? We need to talk about your expectations. This was a fun place to grab a drink and people watch. And boy did the people make it easy to watch them. Like… really easy. But hey, I wasn’t looking to party all night here — just wanted to have a drink with a friend and the hubs and try someplace new. Mission accomplished. And then we moved on. I’d recommend this place if you have time to kill and either want to observe people or strike up a conversation with the total train wreck of the clientèle. Actually, the clientèle wasn’t that bad, but the pun was just too hard to resist.

My gimp, drink loving buddy wanted to get a quick(read: 8 minutes or less) beer before he embarked on his 45 hour journey to the west coast. We stopped in here and were greeted by smiley and talkative and cute wait staff(one was wearing a easter bunny outfit… damn) that gave us the run down on how we could take our beers to go(seriously, it’s like Vegas in here). The décor is awesome – like a college party bar from the early 80s that never had been updated. I’m sure this place is a suburban meat market(or most likely, 40 year old sausage fest) in the hours before the Metra trains leave each day. I’ll have to come check that out. (Note: I’m just guessing this is the name of the bar– I assume there’s only one bar in Union station)

Hey, Snuggery! Thanks for turning the basement lights back down to cave levels. It was just what my misanthropic co-worker and I needed to scarf down our lunches.(And I’m being absolutely serious, here). The speaker above my head was giving off a nice 60-cycle hum between obnoxious announcements about not accepting help from strangers(What, you’re my Mom now?). The Snuggery is once again ripe for the next Bukowski to get a head start on that novel with a Bloody Mary at 9am, or the next corrupt State politician to accept a nice Thank-You-package, helping him get elected to the U.S. Senate!

Snuggery is definitely NOT as shady or depressing as I had found it to be on previous visits during train layovers. First, the smoking ban instantly elevated the ambiance. Second, the bartender is super friendly. I playfully called her on her successful upselling tactics(«Sure, make it a double!»), but she was cool about it. Third, the Bloody Mary was fantastic, made with a proprietary mix that wasn’t too tomato-y or thick, and topped with just a trickle of beer. Fourth, the video trivia game was a fun way to kill time between trains. I had a few other youngish folks as competition, and it was a good icebreaker. I’d definitely be more confident about returning than I had been in the past.

This place is creepy. I always hit it up when I have to take the train home for Xmas, Thanksgiving etc. Its funny though, when you order wine, they ask if you want a large or a small. I always go for the large which is like a 7 – 11 big gulp. They actually pull a box of Franzia out of the cooler and fill a huge cup full of wine. Wierd. I drink it though. The clientèle is mainly the surburban commuters trying to squeeze in one last cocktail before the ride back to the family. Its a very depressing place. Not even the big gulp of wine could cheer this place up.

Had a long day counting beans and need a drink for the long train ride home? Check out this place in the middle of the train station. You can pull up a stool and wait for your departure time while slugging down a couple of the drink specials or get a martini to go and enjoy it on your ride. Good end to a long tedious day.
