Lived in the neighborhood for 2 years and our first time at Sofi. Got here about 90 minutes for closing. Roberto from Naples was our waiter. He was really good. He knew the menu and the wine to go with our selections. We chose the 2006 Barolo and it was perfect. Roberto aerated the wine for us and I never had to touch the bottle the evening. The orecchiette was prepared perfectly. Looking forward to the gnocchi, paccheri focaccia, ravioli and many many more. I am really happy Sofi is in the South Loop. I feel like it’s all mine.

I went for the 1st time on 1÷30÷16 with my sister, her husband and my date. The owner or manager of the restaurant made the evening GREAT. We arrived on time for our 7pm reservation. Due to the restaurant being super packed, the owner/manager offered us a free glass of champagne while he put a great table together for us. I enjoyed the tuna for an appetizer, & short ribs of beef in pasta. They were out of my dessert so they offered me a free shot. Sometimes things happen to amazing restaurants, but its how you treat your customers that will make them come back. We will definitely come back and refer Sofi’s to all our friends. GREATJOBSOFI’s! Food is as AMAZING as the service!!!

Ate here during restaurant week. We picked this restaurant because of the variety of choices on their restaurant week menu. All three courses on the $ 33 menu were full sized. Everything was prepared perfectly and delicious. Pastas and desserts are made in house and it shows. Our server was able to answer my numerous questions about the menu choices and did not even get annoyed with me(I had a LOT of questions!). The place is small, but comfortable. I looked at the regular menu too and the choices are many and prices are reasonable. Recommend the eggplant parmigiana-type appetizer… very particular about this dish and it was excellent!

Food is amazing. We ordered 3 appetizers including seafood, veal meatballs and Italian sausage. Gnocchi dinner was best Gnocchi ever in both taste and texture. Good ambiance and staff is very attentive and helpful. Owner was personable and promptly greeted us upon arrival and talked with us before we left. Highly recommend for anyone wanting great italian food in Chicago.

I ordered spaghetti vongole and carbonara. They both were delicious, although it wasn’t filling. Highly recommended. The service was excellent and very welcoming.

Best al dente spaghetti in their seafood dish. Loved it so much I ordered a second portion but they must have gotten busy because the second time around the noodles were soft. Grateful they did it right the first time.

I was impressed with everything about this restaurant. My girlfriend and I were travelling to Chicago and ate here on a recommendation by someone else staying at our hotel. It isn’t any more expensive than any other good Italian restaurant in the area, even less money but with a higher quality than most local restaurants. To begin with, the wine list is massive and impressive. I recommend buying a full bottle if you can swing it. Second, the service is very good and we didn’t wait forever to get a table or our food after we did order. There was a small wait once we arrived, but we were seated by a very pleasant girl within minutes. Third, the food is what you want to know about and it’s very good. I liked the risotto a lot and the ravioli vitello is exquisite. I think we spent less here for better quality food than we did at other restaurants on vacation.

Went for the first time last night. Thought it was not going to be child friendly, but they easily accommodated a stroller. The service, wine and food was excellent. I love spaghetti carbonara and it was fabulous.

Great food on a quiet and cute street in Printer’s Row — definitely recommend! The only thing I’d change is the glaring street light right over our table on the patio… Other than that, it was a great experience!

Very good Italian food. Pasta was cooked to perfection and had exquisite flavor. Waiter was very attentive and was a font of information not only regarding the menu, but of things we needed to check out in Chicago that were off the beaten touristy path. This is not one of those Italian places where you will be presented with so much food that your grandchildren will inherit some. It’s definitely quality over quantity here. Our meal was impeccable from start to dessert. On par with the finest Italian restaurants that you’ll find in the enclaves of the big northeastern cities that set the bar in the U.S. for this style of dining. Next time I’m in the Windy City, I’m sure to visit again.

I came to this restaurant on a weekend trip to Chicago with some friends. When you first walk in you get to see some beautiful décor even in a rather small restaurant. The menu is well sized and offers you plenty of options to close from. During the time that I was visiting they had a specials menu and I ordered a rack of lamb off of that menu. The rack of lamb was cooked very well and had a beautiful char on it. The sauce for the rack of lamb is what helped put the entire dish together. It was warm, fragrant, creamy, and balanced out the other components of the dish. It was a little pricey but was still an excellent meal. The service was great and everything was delivered within good time and together. This is definitely a place for people to check out if they get the chance.

Lovely neighborhood place that is perfect for date night … if you’re already dating. It’s romantic and intimate, but not dazzlingly obvious in a way you’d be looking for when you’re wowing a new love interest. Service is exceptional and very genuinely friendly. The food is really good and they cook their handmade pasta perfectly al dente. The bar is not comprehensively stocked, but they had my second choice of drink. The small patio seating is nice and the clientele ranges from families to retired couples. Prices on the high side($ 16-$ 20 for pasta), but not outrageous for the quality. Portions good, but you won’t have much for leftovers. I’ll be back, but if prices were a few dollars less I’d come more often.

The pasta is very good, I’ve been their twice. I live 50 feet away, so it should be my local. However, it’s a bit overpriced and the last trip did it for me. I ordered a not inexpensive bottle of wine, and the waiter brought it over, showed it to me, and then said I should REALLY get this other bottle(in his other hand), it tasted better… and it’s $ 20 more. And then just stared at me. I respectfully asked for the bottle I ordered, and never saw that waiter again until the check came. Hi attitude definitely changed. I don’t need people upselling me when I’m trying to have a relaxing dinner.

Sofi was a beautiful dining experience. Tastefully decorated and very intimate. They could use some soft background music bc at times it was too quiet but none the less, this would be a great date spot or a place to take clients for a nice meal. I ordered the Garganelli pasta special with peas and prosciutto in a cream sauce. Added the summer truffles bc… why not!!! So good!!! The bread and olive oil was a delirious start to the meal and kudos to the bartender for a delicious dirty martini with blue cheese olives. I’ll be back!

I’m always on the lookout for places that offer a decent Cacio e Pepe dish and wanted to cross this place off the list. We took my brother here for dinner during his last visit a month ago. I was 40 weeks pregnant and a few days past my due date. Made reservations and were seated promptly. It was pretty busy, crowded, and loud. It took a while for the server to greet us and take our drink orders. He was pretty no nonsense, skip the small talk kinda guy. I ordered the Cavatelli Cacio e Pepe while Hubby had a lobster spaghetti dish, and brother tried the Orecchiette with broccoli rapa and sweet and spicy sausage. The entire meal was so disappointing! The pasta was overcooked, the lobster meat didn’t taste fresh, and the cacio e pepe was the most disappointing of all. There was barely any flavor or sauce(very little at the bottom of the dish) and too much pasta that wasn’t tossed in what sauce was there. I was thrown off by the pasta since cacio e pepe is usually made with a thin spaghetti. I felt so bad that we took my brother here. Not sure how this place has an average 4.5 star Unilocal rating.

I have been wanting to try this place for a while. Space wise its kind of cramp but I wasn’t bothered in our small corner. Our server was so sweet, patient, and gave great recommendations. I wish I could remember his name but he had great locks! My only regret is that I was sick so I couldn’t taste how good it was, it was good, but imagine if I was not sick! Though the spicy pasta was not spicy at all… but it was still great. Only thing is that it was Pricey, and my pasta bowl was so small. but high quality. Also my friend got the tropical salad and she couldn’t stop staying how great it was.

I came here for dinner on a Saturday evening(~8pm). The restaurant wasn’t too packed so we were seated immediately(note: I did make reservations as well). Atmosphere: nice and cozy place, good for dates(maybe dessert only?-at least desserts looked tasty). Food — NOT impressed at all!
Appetizers Tegamino Polpettine($ 10) — veal meatballs in a zesty tomato sauce. The meatballs tasted ok, but nothing amazing. I have tried better from potlucks that I have attended. Trofie Genovese($ 16) — fresh pasta with pesto and diced potatoes. The entrée was very flavorless so if you like bland food go for it. It tasted likecooked pasta mixed with watered down pesto sauce. not impressed nor will i pay $ 16 for pasta like this again. :/ Aragosta Porcini Risotti($ 24) — lobster chucks and mushrooms in light fish broth. I would stay away from ordering this unless you really like the smell of raw fish or something very stinky! I felt like I was going to gag from the smell and after trying it… ek…I couldn’t taste the lobster because something in this entrée really smelled horrible! I am pretty sure that 99% of the people I know will NOT enjoy this. so this is just a warning… definitely not worth $ 24! Ravioli Vitello Pasticciati($ 18) — cream sauce and bolognese ragout(this is like meat sauce). I would say this was the better tasting items of the night… how can you go wrong with meat sauce and ravioli? It wasn’t anything to die for though. The price was a little overpriced here as well. Customer service — it was ok, we did end up waiting awhile to order and then waiting awhile to get our checks. The waiter was friendly though. Parking — street parking right across the street(pay at meter), or better idea is the red line(Harrison stop) I don’t think I’ll be back here… unless maybe it was for dessert or the lobster bisque that I have yet to try.

My dinner was awesome. Staff was great. This is right by the Hotel Blake — you can walk there. The doorman from the hotel, Showtime, recommended I check this place out. I had the duck ragut pappardelle(great flavor); fingerling potatoes(loved the rosemary, garlic and bacon!) and the chocolate soufflé(like a molten lava cake). All that with a glass of wine really warmed me up on a freezing cold night and I slept so well. Dinner for one was about $ 60. Great spot for a good Italian dinner.

A quaint, romantic Italian option in the South Loop. I’m not local, so I don’t have much to compare it with, yet I can say that the food was on point and service was top shelf. The tuna carpaccio was delicious!
