I have being training here occasionally while practicing in the UofC Judo club. I am in the other area of the US now and realized how difficult it is to find a good«true» judo club. A good judo club for me is where everyone is respectful, friendly, extremely experienced and professional in judo. It also brings a sense of community of judokas from around the world and in Chicago land. It was my first real judo club and it set the bar for everyone else at really high level. You should definitely give it a try if you are thinking about judo or start practicing here if you have some experience already.

Agree with SK, hard to believe this is not jammed with 50 five-star reviews already. Young, old, white or black belt — this is the place. Unassuming & spartan facility, but an incredible place to learn the sport or continue as a senior member. Volunteer coaches with very serious experience under their belts. EXCELLENT with children. Bring yours and they will be encouraged, challenged, pushed, and inspired to return. We were going to shop around, but three minutes inside the door and I knew this was the place.

I am surprised that I am the first one reviewing Tohkon, which is one of the oldest, biggest, and most prominent judo schools in Chicago. I have been studying judo here for about three months, and I nothing but positive things to say about instructors and fellow students. All the instructors are volunteers, who donate their time to teach, following the educational spirit and tradition of judo. They are very attentive and kind(as could be when teaching you how to toss and slam someone) Plus, they are extremely knowledgeable. There are more than a dozen of black belts here, some of whom have been studying judo for more than thirty years. Fellow students are friendly and very interested in seeing you improve. The school has a very friendly atmosphere, and because there are many students, you get to try your moves against a wide spectrum of body sizes, weights and technical expertise. If you are interested in learning judo in Chicago, I cannot think of a better place. The school has a free parking lot, although it tends to fill up fast.
