It took me a little over a year to decide to finally write this review in hopes it might help the potential customer shop smarter for custom clothes. My experience with Tom James in Chicago was overall negative. The reason I decided to write this finally was this morning I took out my «winter/fall» clothes that had been hanging up all summer and found two buttons and a hem undone. They were worn only five or six times earlier this year. This happened also a few times before after only wearing other clothing for a handful of times. I bought two pants, four skirts, 6 shirts and a jacket. I thought I was buying quality materials — clearly not. Buttons have fallen off and the skirts I bought don’t stay centered when I walk. Additionally, the clothes have never fit that great despite multiple alternations and fittings. I have to force myself to wear these pieces to justify the high price I paid. I repeat — I have to force myself to wear these clothes. My clothier/sales person blamed likely weight fluctuation and made several inappropriate comments relating to this as we tried to get the best fit for me. It became a painful process to meet with her and work through the terrible fittings as she made remarks about my weight, my job, and my stress level. In fact, she did admit later that it was her error in communication to the seamstress that lead to several shirts not fitting. After she blamed a weight gain on my part for clothes not fitting(they weren’t even close) I felt TERRIBLE about myself for a few days before she finally admitted her error to me. Anyway, I regret completely buying into the notion that this company offers anything that a high end department store couldn’t offer at a much lower price. I typically wouldn’t write negative reviews, but this cost me so much money that I felt other people could potentially avoid the same disaster. This was a big mistake.

The suit I purchased last year was a lot of money and I feel like it is the cheapest suit I own. The pants pocket ripped within the first month I had it. Tom James did sew it together for free which was nice, however it is happening again to the pocket. Also, one of the buttons on the pants(which I paid extra for the better buttons) just broke in half. I wear this suit the least, yet I have the most problems with it. In fact, it’s the only one I have issues with. I doubt I will be pursuing more clothing from Tom James.
