UFC Gym

I absolutely love this place. The new location is open since only few weeks so not fully equipped yet, however the coaches are great in there enthusiasm and creativity to make you work hard!
Coming from extensive martial arts background I do appreciate their technical skills. Not just personal trainer that figured hitting a punching bag seems fun.
Absolute fan and no issues so far with any admin or response times to questions

Horrible experience.
The cancellation experience was very bad.
While joining the gym, they didn’t tell me that there was a $ 50 charge for cancellation in addition to the last month’s fee. I can cancelled in February after paying the last month’s fee and the cancellation fee and still I was charged again in March and June.
DO NOT JOIN THIS GYM.
Also, the workouts are just like doing cardio which you can do on your own without any supervision by just watching YouTube videos.
In all, this place is a black-​hole for your money and a total scam.

Great gym experience, horrible experience with cancelling a membership.
I signed up for a 12-​month membership in December. In February, the gym announced they were moving locations. The new location was a little too far for me to make consistently, so I cancelled my membership. When I did this, the guy I talked to said it would take 2 – 4 weeks for corporate to send a paper check. After waiting 4 weeks, I tried contacting the gym. No response after several emails. Then I contacted the corporate office. They simply said it was an issue with the gym and they gave me the owner’s (Omar) email. After a few emails to him, I finally got a response from a Danielle, who asked who I talked to when I cancelled my membership. After explaining who it was, she never emailed me again, even after I sent several emails asking for an update. After several more emails CC’ing corporate and Omar, Omar finally responded saying they would get the check to me by the first week of May. On May 9^th, I emailed him again to see if it had been mailed. No response. I emailed him again on the 15^th, saying I was getting ready to file a complaint with the BBB and dispute the charge on my credit card. He responded saying he would confirm that night that it was sent out. Two days later (and a few more emails from me) and no response from him or anyone at the gym. Over the past 3 months, I’ve sent a total of 37 emails, and received responses from only 10 of them (I have the full correspondence, send me a msg if you want it).
End result: I filed a BBB complaint and a dispute with my credit card. I’m sure their creditors have better luck than me.
Additionally, when the gym announced they were moving locations, they said the gym would be closed for 10 days. It has now been 8 weeks and the gym is still closed. Smells like a scam where a business is trying to hold onto members/​cash for as long as possible.
I’m sure with the location change, I’m not the only member in this position. I would encourage others to file BBB complaints against this business with their own experiences and post here on Unilocal

So, I worked out at this gym for several months and I really enjoyed the classes and instructors. My one star rating is more about Chris, the trainer, than the classes and overall gym. I worked out with him for about 6 – 8 weeks and the first few weeks or so were great! I was noticing gains and I could visibly see improvements. Slowly, Chris started disappearing. He would not show up for workouts and then when he did come, he was late. He was also not keeping track of our sessions, which was an even worse pain in the neck. As time went on, he was disconnected with the sessions, often holding conversations with others in the gym instead of tending to me, someone who paid for his one-​on-​one services. Needless to say, I did not finish my sessions with this guy. He ruined my experience with this gym. He was totally inconsiderate of my time and inconsistent with workouts and attendance.

This place moved, went to the new location, nothing there. This place no longer exists and needs to be removed.

I recently broke my finger and for obvious reasons was no longer able to box. I called the manager at the time, Mike, and explained the situation and without hesitation he froze my account and told me to come back as soon as I could. All of a sudden, I started being billed again. Unfortunately, I am still unable to attend boxing classes so I reached out to the new manager, Megan, to rectify the situation. She was useless. She told me that there wasn’t any record of my request to freeze my account and that I would continue to be billed. I then requested to cancel my membership and she stated that per the contract, a 30 day notice was required. Mind you, I never signed a contract. When she failed to produce said agreement she said that Mike, the previous manager was not following company protocol and I was still required to give a 30 day notice. I explained to her that Mike, was the company’s representative at the time and whether or not protocol was being followed I should not be bound to something I did not sign. She gave me the phone number to the corporate office in Florida, I called, and the number is only for people interested in franchising a gym. PLEASE SAVE YOURSELF THE STRESS AND STAY AWAY!

I could go on for a long time about how much I like this gym, but instead I’ll simply address two of the criticisms I saw come up in other reviews:
1. I had zero problems canceling my membership when I moved out of state. There are a number of references below to a male manager who is money hungry. He must no longer be there, because the current manager, Meghan (I’m sorry if I’m misspelling her name) is wonderful. I mentioned to her one day that I was moving away from Chicago at the end of the month, and during my last week, she actually asked ME on my way out whether I had cancelled my membership yet. She knew I was leaving and wanted to make sure I didn’t get overcharged. She looks out for her members and I appreciate that.
2. The instructors are great. Someone said below that «the instructors are a joke and you don’t learn anything from them.» If you think that Marty Jakubowski is a joke and that you can’t learn from him, then that’s on you. Just Google his name if you haven’t heard of him. But it’s not just Marty — all the instructors are great. I’ve got a few years of Muay Thai experience and I still paid extra for private lessons with a number of the instructors (Chris, Darian, and Alex) who all really helped me with my technique, strategy, and fitness. But don’t worry, even without private sessions, the instructors take the time during group classes to help you with your technique. I’d also never done Jui Jitsu before, and Steve was great with both the advanced and beginner students (like me).
3. This gym is great for people of all levels. As I mentioned, I’ve been training for years and there was plenty for me to learn from the instructors. But I also brought my fiancé in, who has never put on a pair of boxing gloves, or kicked a bag, in her life. The instructors were wonderful with her and she liked it so much that she decided she wants to keep training once we’re back in California.
To summarize, the gym has a great, friendly atmosphere. The instructors are friendly, approachable, and knowledgeable. The other members are friendly and work hard and help you stay motivated (encouraging each other, helping each other, etc.). It’s just the kind of environment I was looking for and I’m very glad I found it. I’m only sad that I’m moving out of state and have to leave! I can’t promise that it will always stay this good, but with the current staff, I have great confidence that it will remain a great place to learn new techniques, or just to get into and stay in shape.

Here will try to post my negative review again, it seems the Gym was able to have Unilocal take the previous one down which i think is real BS.
First i would say the workout staff of this gym are actually pretty good. I enjoyed the classes when i attended them.
My complaint with this Gym is the billing practices. I hurt my knee and was told by my doctor to not do major workouts. I emailed the Gym and they waved that months fees and put my membership on hold. 3 months later the auto billing resumed. i contacted the gym via email and told them i was still not cleared by my doctor and i was told that i had to physically go into the gym and sign paperwork. since i was traveling for work out of town, they actually billed me for 2 months. total bs.
The new manager kept referencing my contract however they could never produce said contract.

Just joined this week and attended my first boxing class this morning! It was a relief to finally have an instructor that taught techniques well without making you feel like a complete newbie. They have a lot of training equipment. I like that they have a lot of classes throughout the day. You can be doing your own thing then jump into the class for the bags only. The instructor (Chris) was great! We had some individuals who were definitely more advance than others but that was fine because the drills can be altered to meet you at your own level. I will be telling all of my fitness friends and family about this place!

Pros:
1) A lot of hard working gym members. I simply cannot get a good workout if I’m surrounded by people who don’t give it their all. I’m really glad to say that (mostly) everyone gives 100%.
2) Instructors are generally informed and organized. They have sets thought up in their head and make switches between rounds or workouts easy and effective. I think that’s extremely important to keep your heart rate going!
3) A lot of bags which is nice when the classes are over booked. I normally don’t get hit with other swinging bags.
4)Pretty good equipment. For strengthening, they have pretty good sets and kettlebells.
Cons:
1) Sanitation– I do not know how often they clean the mats. They look new and are in great shape, but I think they should clean them more often. Once a day when they close shop– mop down. Mid-​day if it’s not busy, sweep/​wipe down. I also hate the carpet. I recommend removing the carpet and replacing with actual or laminate wood. Anything would be better than the gross, sweat absorbent carpet.
2) I’ve noticed so far that they have a high turnover rate.
New trainers and staff every week so far that I’ve been a member. That’s slightly worrisome since being a gym member and not knowing the structure or instructor of my usual classes.
3) That being said– the structure changes with each instructor and each instructor teaches different style. I’m not sure how professional the instructors are and sometimes the timing of the sets can be too long and makes the workout boring.
4)This is not a good cardio place since they only have one stationary bike, one elliptical, and one treadmill. Again, I would not recommend this gym for other workouts like yoga, although mats are readily available. The space itself is awkward and the layout of the equipment makes it slightly difficult.
5) No free parking but discounted parking for $ ⁴⁄₄ hours. I think that’s pretty good if you want to shower, stretch, take your time wrapping your hands. I just wished it were free :)

I know im just one voice out of many but fuck it. If I could give this place zero stars I would’ve done it. The heavy bags are way too fucking close to each other. The workout machines are a joke. The instructors are also a joke. You learn absolutely nothing from them. The gyms name is a disgrace to ufc and all of mixed martial arts. The manager is a piece of shit and is money hungry. He tries to keep you as a member even after you ask to cancel the membership more than 4 times. If you want to waste your money, feel free. All you’re going to do is go to a «boxing/​kickboxing» class and get some cardio. That’s it. You ain’t gon learn jack shit. This place is a l. a fitness/​xsport in disguise as a mma gym. Honestly you’re better off saving your money and investing on a kicking pad or a punching bag if you can set one up. And if you’re looking for a social environment for training, this is the wrong place. Everyone there is too busy focused on themselves. And if you read these Unilocal that compliment the gym, they seem kind of odd. It almost seems like the people who work at ufc gym, created an account, and complimented themselves to attract people to their gym.

The jack of all trades, master of none.
It shouldn’t be a surprise to anyone that, no matter how hard they try to promote themselves as an adept MMA training camp, it is not. It is not even close. So with that being said:
If you are considering getting into combat sports, as a hobby or bigger commitment, take this franchise off of your list. The trainers are LA Fitness trainers with new shirts, not actually qualified trainers. There is also a very cold atmosphere, which is acceptable for most gyms, but in an actual MMA/​boxing/​etc gym you will immediately be assigned partners for drills, and eventually sparring. You typically know everyone by name in the first week. This is the opposite of that, much like the vibe at Xsport or some other large chain.
It’s not a terrible thing, but again, it’s more reasons to avoid this franchise like the plague if you’re actually wanting to learn to compete combat sports.
With that out of the way, I initially signed up because they had heavy bags and some weights, and I was nursing a shoulder injury for a few months and wanted to stay in shape without re-​injuring myself in my normal camp. The place was awful. The mats were disgusting, the lockers were rusty and looked like they were salvaged from a high school, and every weight machine seemingly had something wrong with it.
Then, very impressively, they got new mats, new lockers, changed a few things around, and fixed or replaced the weights. By the time I left, the only thing that was in need of replacement was the speed bags (0 of 2 were usable).
Canceling my membership was as easy as telling them that I want to cancel my membership. I didn’t get billed again, and immediately got a receipt of cancellation in my email. It seems like others have had more problems with this, so perhaps they’ve recently changed their policy, or perhaps the manager didn’t bother upselling me since he knew why I was there.
So, you have weights, although not as good as a normal gym. You have some bags and mats, but not as well kept as a training camp. You have «cardio kickboxing» instructors who seem to be great at their jobs. But again, they’re there to give you an aerobic work out, not actually teach you kickboxing.
The price is steep for what you’re getting, but for the area, is probably normal. If you have a car or don’t mind going a stop or 2 on the train, I would recommend another gym.
One last piece of advise. As of 2 months ago, while advertised on their site, they did not have a wrestling or jiu-​jitsu instructor or program. They were looking to hire someone to start one. The mats are used for kettle bell workouts, general exercises, etc. Do NOT grapple on these mats unless you see them thoroughly cleaned first. It is a staph infection waiting to happen. It’s a LOT more common than you think, and if you see someone walking from one side of the gym across the mats, them mats be dirty.

I went to this gym for a couple months. I went there and canceled my membership. A year later they started charging my account again. Then they sent me to a collections agency. They lost or threw out my cancellation paperwork. The management company here is complete bull sh*t. I am completely infuriated with this place and will never go back. Do not sign up here. I would give negative stars if I could.

If you want to burn fat, sweat your butt off, get stronger then this is the place to go. I don’t do hardcore box or anything, I come here because I want to have a good workout. If you are looking for a boot camp type of thing this could work too. Try their Boxing, Kickboxing, and Dream body classes, they are great!
It has a smell of sweat sometimes but it’s not bad or strong at all. I like how everyone who goes are wiling to get down and dirty, so if you are someone that likes to look pretty when you go to the gym then you can go somewhere else for that crap. Because people workout hard here.
They have 2 changing rooms, 2 bathrooms with 2 showers in their.

When I first joined this gym it was LA Boxing & I took so long to write a review that UFC bought them out and it’s now UFC South Loop. I resisted coming to LA Boxing for years despite the proximity to my home out of sheer intimidation. I thought I’d be surrounded by boxing lunks. Instead, it has turned out to be one of the best fitness experiences of my life.
Since joining in April I’ve lost 40 lbs. I owe that to the rigorous boxing classes and the personal training (and my own hard work, dammit!) Not only am I in the best shape of my life, I feel like I can defend myself now too, if needed. My left hook is no joke! I didn’t realize how in shape I was until I did a Zumba class and never even got winded. The instructor complimented my cardio and I was proud to tell her that I trained at UFC.
Seriously, a boxing workout is second to none. The only reason I haven’t given this facility 5 stars is that I think management has been lax about certain things – it took several months to get a treadmill repaired (and there are only 2, so you had an entire gym sharing a single treadmill). They also need to update/​upgrade some of the equipment. But these are small quibbles compared to the great benefit I have received from coming to this facility.
I highly recommend taking the free trial class to see if it’s a good fit for you. It is an investment – it costs more than XSport & FFC – but for me it’s been well worth it.

Since I have been retired I have taken advantage of the daytime classes and personal training. I take boxing, kickboxing, and Yoga. The instructors help me adapt some of the more rigorous training routines to my level (retired person with arthritis). The staff and members are like a second family to me. I am inspired by the instructors who are experts in their fields — professional boxers, MMA fighters, etc. I personal train with Alex who inspires me every day. Great and friendly management.
It is not a «fancy gym” – that is one of the reasons that I love going there. The people are awesome. I have been a member for over 3 years and plan to continue my membership.

Unquestionably, I was in the best shape of my life when going to this gym regularly. The fact that they have classes in the middle of the day is perfect for lunch break, and a good way to avoid the after work rush.
I recently signed up again after being away for a while, and letting myself go to the point where I am ashamed to let trainers look at me, but progress is happening quickly.
It’s my favorite alternative to running or lifting. The cardio is so intense that you might puke for the first or second class… but just let the trainers know you’re new. Everyone is very friendly and supportive to help you reach your personal fitness goals.
The gym is clean, the class teachers are great. Just make sure you time your sign-​up with one of their great specials (which are frequent, but make a big difference to the wallet).
