My cousins and I decided to grab some dinner at Uni Sushi. After looking at a couple of pictures of how small the place was, I thought it was best to make a reservation. To my surprise, there were ample seating available. The service here was horrible from the start. Once we were seated, we ordered a round of hot tea since it was freezing outside but after about 20 minutes we still never received them. We had to flag down a waitress to remind them about our tea and that we were ready to order. Even after we ordered, the food did not come out in a reasonable time. We sat there for almost half an hour before our food started to come out. Like other Unilocalers stated, it looks like they were giving priority to take out orders rather than dine in customers. For food, we ordered a bunch to share: — Sashimi(salmon, yellowtail, eel, and super white tuna): delicious and fresh. The pieces were very generous. — Uni Nigiri: I don’t personally like uni, but the table seemed to enjoy it. They stated it was fresh and didn’t taste fishy. — Chicago-V Maki: spring mix, sweet potato tempura, asparagus tempura, sweet omelet, and shiitake mushroom. Surprisingly, everyone enjoyed this roll since it was vegetarian. The different textures and flavors worked really well with each other. — Godzilla Maki: shrimp tempura, crabstick, avocado and cream cheese wrapped in tempura crumbs. This roll was pretty standard with other sushi places. Nothing wrong with it, but also nothing made it stand out. — Bears Signature Maki: salmon, spicy salmon, crunchy crispy salmon, avocado, and crunchy sweet potato. To me, there wasn’t a huge difference with the different type of salmons. It just tasted like spicy salmon to me. The real star of this roll is the crunchy sweet potato. It gave the roll the crunch it desperately needed. — Bulls Signature Maki: tuna, spicy tuna, cucumber, and sesban flour tempura. This was a simple roll. The flavors and textures were great, but I wouldn’t go to as far to say this was their«signature» roll. — Dragon Maki: shrimp tempura, cucumber, and cream cheese topped with fresh water eel and avocado. Again, nothing wrong with the roll but nothing stood out. — Hawks Signature Maki: double yellowtail, flying fish roe, scallion, avocado, jalapeño, cilantro and spicy sauce. The yellowtail was fresh and delicious. I especially loved the extra kick the jalapeño and spicy sauce gave it. — Uni Don: sea urchin, salmon roe, and Japanese pickles. Like previously stated, I don’t really eat uni but it seems like the table’s favorite. It has the same uni as the nigiri, but the salmon roe and Japanese pickles gave the entrée some texture and a different flavor. Overall, I just don’t understand the wait times for the food to come out. It seems a little ridiculous that dinner would take over two hours. The food was good, especially their sashimi, but service needs a lot of work. They need to learn how to balance their take out orders AND dine in customers. I don’t know if I would dine in again, but possibly order take out if I’m in the area.

We saw this had some insane crazy high ratings so we ordered it for delivery… not the best. The ramen was AWFUL. The sushi wasn’t bad but it was mammoth sized rolls. We’re just not a big fan of that. This is a quantity over quality place

Just ordered from them via grub hub and I am very disappointed. The crab Rangoon we got was ice cold by the time it got to me and the sushi we ordered was actually warmer than room temperature. And I asked for no cream cheese or mayo on any of the sushi and they didn’t listen. Cream cheese and mayo everywhere. I tried to call and complain but the phone line kept ringing so I could even tell them about it. Smh. Will never order from them again.

Ok. We had three additional sushi on the house. So I give it 5 stars!!! Good point, Uni don is great! Fresh Uni! Salmon appetizer is also good. Others, sushi are so so. Sushi rice are too sticky and without flavor of vinegar. When it goes with sashimi on top, sushi rice does not match the taste. In addition, sashimi are not that fresh as I thought. Grilled food are made with Korean BBQ sauce. So don’t try. In summary, go for Uni. Order things with Uni. Save your stomach for other places nearby:)

Ok. I’m a huge Uni guy, so I had to try this place. This place is called«UNI». Verdict-the uni isn’t so great. But, to my surprise, the other sashimi was ok. Huge slabs of fish but could be mire fresh. Stay away from the robata because it’s too salty and over seasoned. The exception was the robata bi bim bap, works. Uni shots are a waste, barely any uni.

A word of advice: If you have a neighborhood favorite for sushi, stick to it. I veered away from my usual spot to give Uni a try and was very disappointed. I ordered three rolls and a side of crab rangoon. The rolls were fine — they did not make me feel ill — but they didn’t taste flavorful or fresh. I had a couple of pieces of each but left most untouched. The rangoon was mostly phyllo dough and also arrived cold. Taste is not subjective when it comes to fresh fish, so I’m puzzled as to why this place has such good reviews, particularly when the costs are on the high end. There are many, many places to find higher quality — don’t end your search here.

The presentation was great. The sushi was great. Nothing more to be said.

The sushi is good enough, but nothing special. And it certainly isn’t good enough to justify the wait time for the food. Why the wait? Watching the sushi bar, it’s clearly because they give priority to online orders rather than the in-restaurant patrons. They get points for being BYOB and for a couple of decent rolls that deviate from Chicago’s usual cream cheese-centric rolls(try the Cubs and Wolves maki), but that’s where the praise stops.

Solid spot for sushi and ramen. Food: very good — we really enjoyed the Chicago Bears roll as well as the ramen(with several quail eggs in it — yum!) Service: attentive but not overbearing Ambiance: it’s a small eatery with basic wooden tables but it’s comfy and casual. Will definitely be back!

Came here on a whim Friday night with a friend because we were both craving sushi and I have had delivery from here and enjoyed it. the interior looks pretty cool, lots of artwork on the walls. The music however was blaring way too loud and felt like it was being played off of someones iPod. Usually not one to complain but really aggressive mainstage EDM(Sorry dude no i’m not trying to put my hands up or jump) at 8pm on a friday at a sushi bar kind of killed the mood. Our server took a while to get to us, and usually I’d understand but we we’re one of about 3 tables in the entire restaurant and there were 3 servers on staff. This story continued throughout the night. We ordered an appetizer, three rolls, and some sashimi. Our rolls came out staggered after a lengthy bit of time, with mine coming out well before my friend’s, to the point that i finished dinner before he got his food. Our appetizer didn’t really appear until i asked about it after we had both eaten. Overall, the food itself is decent for a sushi place, I can’t feel alone on that because their delivery drivers and sushi chefs were hustling pretty hard. Their sit down service is pretty bad and could use some work.

We had an OK experience the first time we went here a few weeks ago with some friends, but weren’t planning on coming back. However, since it’s so close to our apartment, we thought we better give it one more chance since it’s getting too cold to wander too far. I’m glad we did. The first time we went, the service was a little slow and we were the ONLY people in there(but they had togo orders as well). We had a few bottles of white wine with us then and without asking they got us an ice bucket and glasses and opened the bottle for us, so that was very nice. It’s BYOB, btw. The rolls we selected didn’t quite wow us, which we did not expect to happen. Tonight we went back and ordered different rolls(Godzilla, soft crab, California) as well as qyoza. Everything was great– Godzilla was my favorite for sure. They also put the little orange fish eggs(?) on the California roll, which was an interesting change of pace for a typically standard roll. We will be back once the mood for sushi strikes again!

Yes! Loved it! This was my first experience with a BYOB place and it was great! Four of us met up on a Friday night at 8pm and has a fabulous time! We brought two bottles of wine with us and there was no cork fee. We started with the edamame and the crab Rangoon appetizers and they were both yummy. I ordered the Cubs roll and Godzilla roll. I can’t recall the names of all the rolls we had but between us all there were at least 6 more rolls ordered and not one piece of sushi left on the table! Prices were extremely reasonable, vibe was cool with dim lighting, and the waitstaff was very nice. Wild highly recommended! Side note– we did have a reservation, if you are gonna visit on a weekend or prime time it would probably be best to play it safe and make one! Oh, one more thing– one of the waitress graciously agreed to take a few pics of our group and we really appreciated it! :)

Great sushi! Husband ordered delivery for us and it tasted so good. We split six rolls and felt satisfied afterwards. Everything was fresh. Our favorites tonight were the Philadelphia and crispy salmon. Will definitely order again!

The sushi was really great! I got a roll of Chicago V and a spicy tuna roll for free, because I checked in on Unilocal(redeem those offers!). I went with a medium size group of friends, we had made a reservation before hand. They provided cups for our wine and an ice bucket to chill our wine. I’m only giving it 4 stars, not 5, because the music they played was great, but a little too loud and I felt like I was shouting while trying to have a conversation. Would definitely recommend! And I’d go again.

Fresh good quality fish, generous sashimi portions. Beautiful pieces of Scottish salmon, yellow tail and tuna. Super reasonably priced at $ 6 for 3 pieces I will be back here many more times

First off, delicious. Great fish. So if that’s your concern don’t worry. Great rolls. Their menu needs an upgrade though. And what I mean by that is their items aren’t described well. It felt like a leap of faith when considering ordering a few things on the menu. Atmosphere is fun, a cozy place that likes to play EDM. I feel like this review is being cut short without long descriptions of the food. But it was just darn good. So go!

A Japanese restaurant that serves up a delicious crab rangoon?! A restaurant that delivers food at perfect temperature(both hot and cold) in under 45 minutes on a Friday night?! Delicious fresh tasting raw fish, and perfectly cooked(lightly breaded thank goodness) tempura’d veggies and seafood?! A spicy miso soup, clearly homemade and served with seaweed and fresh whole Japanese mushrooms?! Everything slightly expensive? Yes!

Love ordering delivery from Uni. It’s always fresh and always shows up within a few minutes of the expected delivery time. The lady that answers the phone is always very patient and friendly. Really enjoy their specialty maki rolls.
