A friend recently asked me a place to get framing done and two things popped into my head. 1. Find a old frame and second hand shops and be creative. reuse it and put a new picture in it. This is my preferred route as I’ve done 10+ pieces(small to large) and have hung them all around. Some have mattes which I cut/adjusted for the new pieces, some didn’t. But each became unique and fun. And very cheap for the quality of frame you can get(I’ve gotten nice metal frames that should be $ 50 for $ 10 – 15 just because people don’t like the artwork in it anymore. 2. Since she wasn’t tooooo crafty, I then suggested With Art. I got 2 pieces done by the lady who runs With Art. And I’m extremely satisfied with them. This was about 3 years ago, but they still hang in my dining room and still look great. I got 2 reprints from the MoMA(one was a sketch of the UN building in NY and the other was a large piece by Rodchenko. The UN Piece was frame simply with no matte, but the frame fit the print perfectly and backed nicely. The large Rodchenko was done with a beautiful orange matte(that matched the color of the font on the bottom). The frame feels very sturdy and everything looks professional. I hope to have this for a long time and I was happy she did a phenomenal job. The prices? I think its in line with other shops but you do get better service as she is a small shop and loves what she does.
