Yoga in Millennium Park

A great and fun experience to workout outside and meet new people. I really enjoyed coming out this morning for yoga in the park.
It’s quite relaxing. There is nice music playing to help you relax and ease your mind.
All sizes shapes young older and different diversity of people come out to enjoy a free morning of a yoga class. Free. How amazing is that?

I’m a huge fan of this series. It’s so much fun to work out, outside. It’s also fun to see the tourists and business travellers stumble upon this great series and have a blast working out with the locals. I go every year. Don’t miss it!

The City of Chicago is awesome. There are so many cool free events that they provide.
This summer every Saturday morning in millennium park they offer free workouts:
Yoga at 8am
Pilates at 9am
Zumba at 10am
I got there for the end of Yoga, and did Pilates and Zumba. All three classes seemed great. I loved doing pilates in the middle of the park. It was a beautiful day, and a great way to start the morning! I’m just mad at myself for not going sooner. It was awesome to do pilates in the grass, looking up at the sky, with all of the skyscrapers in the background. Everyone should try this!
And it looked as though there were a lot of other people who knew about this before I did. There were at least a couple hundred people out there, and yet we all had as much space around us as we wanted.
I was impressed that there was such an assortment of people. There were old people, there were high school students, there were a few young children, and there were people speaking multiple different languages.
This would be a great introduction to Zumba. If you are considering trying Zumba, but you’re nervous, you should come here! People out in the park were just stopping to join in. There was a cute little girl (about 2) having a great time dancing around.
Bring a mat/​towel, water, and sunscreen

Yoga in the park is great! There is plenty of space so it’s not uncomfortably crowded, music is good and it’s a nice place to be outside and enjoy the summer. And it is free! It’s definiitely not as strenuous as going to a studio for a class though so keep that in mind, and isn’t going to be overly relaxing due to the music etc. Overall highly enjoyable. Make sure you bring water and a towel or mat.

If you’re drunk from the night before — don’t bother waking up.
But if you’re too old for a wild night out (like I am), and you often head to bed before midnight — consider Yoga in the Park.
There is no better way to start your Saturday: live music, fresh air, early sun and easy stretch. You’re guaranteed to feel refresh afterwards.
Don’t be afraid if you’re a new bee to yoga or pilates or zumba, there are people of all levels, ages, shapes, and skins (ok that doesn’t matter but I consider myself darker skin so I just want to be conceited and throw it out there). For pilates this morning, they have various instructors walking around in the lawn to fix your poses while one main instructor gave direction on stage. I mean sometimes I don’t even get that treatment at my gym!
You will ALWAYS find a spot and you won’t be touched by those around you (not like sometimes in a studio).
What to bring? A mat or towel, water, maybe sun screen (I don’t need it, but I also don’t get burn).

This is one of the reasons why I love living in the city of Chicago. Where else can you enjoy a free yoga class in one of the most beautiful parks in the city as the sun is rising and birds are chirping? Ok, maybe New York, but I don’t know about the free part.
Free classes are held every Saturday morning throughout the summer and while the yoga moves are very basic (good for beginners), it feels like a different class every time depending on the instructor. It’s also a good way to preview yoga instructors if you’re looking to attend classes at a studio. All you need to bring is a yoga mat or towel, sunscreen, and some water.
The workout schedule is as follows:
Tai Chi at 7 am
Yoga at 8 am
Pilates at 9 am
Dance Aerobics at 10 am
Yes, I do have a bit of a problem getting up that early on a Saturday, or any day for that matter, but the feeling of relaxation and peace that I have after each class makes it worthwhile.
Workouts run through September 11, 2010. I probably should have reviewed this sooner, but you still have time to catch a few Saturday sessions… I’ll be sleeping in, but you have fun.

What an amazing way to start the weekend! Not only is the class FREE but the music is live. Recommend bringing water, sunscreen up your face and your mat/​towel. For those not yoga-​inclined, there is a tai chi class at 7, pilates at 9 and aerobics at 10 AM – again, all free!

A-​Mazing. I thought waking up early on Saturdays to be in Millennium Park by 8 am was going to be torture. I can barely make it downtown by 9 am Monday — Friday, when I’m getting paid to be there. BUT yoga in Millennium has been my sanctuary this summer. The feeling you get doing yoga on a huge lawn, in the morning sun, with the lake air blowing in, and beautiful skyline, is total bliss … and it’s FREE!
They have a different yoga school giving instruction every week. The soothing music and instruction is delivered over a PA system, so you don’t miss a beat, or a pose. The people who participate are of all levels of experience, young and old.
It’s never too crowded, as the lawn of the Pritzker Pavilion is huge, and you don’t need any fancy yoga equipment. Just bring yourself, a mat or a towel; you can even do yoga on the (very well maintained) grass, but I would recommend bringing a bottle of water.
It is the ideal yoga experience for the urban dweller — especially if you love to bask in the morning sun.
