Roach infested. Lots, of homeless. Manager was cool. Definitely better facilities in town

I have a few things to say here. I called around and this place had the best prices BY FAR! But… I went on Unilocal and saw that they had one bad review so I decided to go with another place just to be safe. I stayed at the other place for one month, I kid you not, and I had rats in my unit! I asked around and apparently this is the standard in Chico because of all of the surrounding fields and agro farms and most facilities hold no liability for things like this.
I went to Extra Storage because they were cheap. I asked them about rats and if they had a problem with them and the manager was awesome. The manager was honest with me and said yes they had some rats from time to time but it is to be expected with the area. Because customers had come into their place previously they now carried rat poison to put in the corners of the units. Also she gave me a bunch of tips on how to keep my stuff safe and I bought some things in their office for cheap to wrap my stuff in and I moved in.
Well…I have been here for 8 months and I havn’t had ANY rats! Fingers crossed but I think I have taken all the precautions I needed to take. Plus, the manager, I think her name is Sheila? Shelly? is so nice! I’m giving this place ⁴⁄₅ stars just because I wish I could have access 24 hrs (which they don’t allow). Other than that I am pretty satisfied as far as storage goes. I am really disappointed in this business. I have been renting a unit from them for almost two years now and have always paid my rent on time and never had an issue with the staff. I went to clear out my stuff this week while I was in town. When I was moving the stuff out I noticed that rats had infested every box I had. There was rat poop and pee all over everything. I had to throw away most of my stuff… childhood memories, electronics, etc. When I told Extra Storage what had happened the woman I spoke to was very apologetic and said she would speak to her manager to see if there was anything they could do. The manager apparently did not care at all and decided that he/​she would do nothing to help. They wouldn’t even reimburse me my last months rent which was a whopping $ 35. I understand that it is my fault for not having renters insurance but it is not my fault that their units are infested with rats and I was never told that I needed to set rat traps when I moved my stuff in there. I would suggest NOT renting a unit from this business… and if you do, SET RAT TRAPS! Or only use plastic covered storage boxes.
