My husband & I went here after Basque Norte was packed the night before Valentine’s Day. We had a show to go to so we didn’t want to go to another packed place so we stopped here. Big mistake! First impressions are everything. When we walked in there was the bar. There were a couple of very loud guys sitting there. A lady peeked around the corner & said two for dinner? We got seated in a room in front of the bar. There was an older couple in there with us. Our server was nice. That was a good thing. The other server seemed nice too. We looked at the menu and they weren’t a lot of choices but we both ordered the rib eye. I ordered mine medium well. When it came out it was medium. The steaks were also like chopped up a bit like they cut into it to see if it was done. I had a baked potato that was literally cold. I sent that back. When the new one came out, it was hot but was not very good. Plus, it was microwaved. The asparagus was perfectly cooked. The price was good & she gave me $ 2 off for the potato. I wasn’t happy with my meal but my husband on the other hand loved his! Even though I didn’t care for mine, the reason I gave this place 1 star was the horrible, loud, customer at the bar. The guy I mentioned earlier, was extremely loud & foul mouthed the whole time. He was obviously drunk & the topics he was talking about did not belong in a restaurant. We knew when he lost his virginity, his political views, who he is f***ing now amongst other things. Every other word out of his mouth was f this f that. I think the manager/owner should have quieted him down or asked him to leave. Especially, when a family came in. Needless to say, I won’t be back.

First time visit to Shenanigan’s for dinner tonight. We arrived about 6:45 and were greeted at the door by a very cheerful waitress who seated us promptly and gave us a prime seat next to the fireplace. The friendly waitress made sure we were comfortable and brought our drinks promptly while we perused the menu. We were intrigued by the prime rib special but opted instead for the ribeye steaks instead. The steak dinner seasonal veggies, garlic bread and a choice of mashed or baked potato. We didn’t want the potato so we asked for extra veggies instead. The waitress did not skip a beat and offered us side salads as another option, with which we were delighted. Our food was delivered in good time, and was quite delicious. Our steaks were wonderfully grilled, with a perfect amount of char on the outside! The waitress kept our drinks refilled, and invited us to sit and chat as long as we desired. Overall, a very pleasant experience. Highly recommended!

I ordered«the stack» with grilled chicken, it tasted kinda funny so i peeled the bread back to check it out… Turns out they used leftover chicken picatta on my sandwhich, it had capers stuck to it and everything! So gross and the service is insanely slow, not matter what time of day it is. Dont go, just dont.

New owners, def worth another shot! The experience is unlike previous ones. Like their page to stay up on the music they offer and great atmosphere. Great place to grab a drink too

This is my third try, but my first since the new owners took over. Vast improvement from before, so kudos for that. Menu is much better… but would like to see the baked potatoes be more tradtional and not halves with toppings on them. And I hope that these halves are not what they are serving as the«potato skins». If that’s what’s happening, call me, and I’ll whip you up some delicious potato skins! I still feel that the back dining room is too dark and that wall needs to be taken down. We sat in the middle room which was fine for us. It was fun to people watch and everyone seemed to have a good time. Basement pool table area is weird… there’s definitely a need for better/different lighting and a bar down there.

The service was not very good. Nice people but could not get an order right to save their lives. Food was OK but took forever.

A friend and I had lunch today(10÷28÷15) at Shenanigan’s. We both ordered the«Stack» sandwich, which was served with fries. The sandwich was really yummy. It fact, it was so big and good that I ate half and took the other half home with me to enjoy for dinner. It was served on Tin Roof Bakery bread and the chicken in it – an ample amount — was freshly grilled. It also included avocado, lettuce and tomato. The bread was slathered with a superb aioli. And the French fries? They were outrageously delicious! In fact, these were the best French fries I’ve ever had in Chico(with apologies to a certain brewing company’s restaurant fries). The service, too, was excellent — discrete and not invasive, but fully available, serving our lunch within about 7 minutes of our ordering. I would have awarded Shenanigan’s 5 stars, except that they’re now getting up and running again after recently changing hands, so coffee and soft drinks were not yet available. Still and all, I highly recommend this restaurant for lunch. It was a happy and very satisfying meal. I think that you’ll be pleased.

We tried to take my parents here for lunch today. When we got there it seemed like the whole staff was hanging out inside eating. We finally got seated at a nice table outside, and then waited. Another table was seated after us and when the waitress finally came out 15 minutes later to take orders she skipped our table and went right to the people who came in after us. We eventually just got up and left. I figure if they couldn’t take out order, we weren’t likely to ever get the food. Sad they have a nice patio, but their service needs to step up.

Visited for the first time since new ownership(would have previously rated one star on everything but the food menu). The service is now five stars(no need to go to the bar to order while waitresses are drinking and smoking on the patio instead of taking care of us). We are looking forward to updating this entire review to five stars when we experience the new entertainment, some of our favorites such as mozzarella sticks and tater tachos getting back on the menu, and when the outside patio(with so much potential) is ready for patrons.

Terrible. I saw all the bad reviews on here My girlfriend and I went anyways since it’s the closest thing to my apartment open at a late hour for food and drinks. I do not even want to get into to it, too much to type. DONOTGOHERE!

Well like the previous if I had known I would have saved myself the time, money, and disappointment of ever going there. Terrible service, terrible food hell terrible establishment. I would never recommend this place to anyone. As a matter of fact I’m going to tell anyone that asks where to eat I will say any where but Shenanigans. Ok so the new owners took the time to respond to my BAD review of this establishment and asked that we please return and give the place another chance with new fresh faces and so we did. Very pleased with the outcome of last visit. The food was excellent, the service just almost as good food came out in a timely manner it was hot and very good. It seemed as though the waitress might have been done with her shift for the night as it was almost closing time. It was not a big deal to her at all though she gladly seated us and took our order for dinner returned to check on us while waiting for meal. served us in a timely manner with very good food. Will for sure pass the word to give you a try. Good Luck with your new place, keep up the good work and there should be no problem filling this place and making it a fun and exciting place to go and just have a quick drink or a nice meal. Thank you for taking the time to look at the reviews and responding to them. I believe this a lot of times can make or break a business. I personally can say I only returned because you did care enough to take the extra effort to care what the patrons had to say and make the effort to fix and improve on the things the patrons had to say. Thanks again, Pam Smith

Terrible! I went to this establishment a few weeks ago. The waitress did not write down my order. My meal came out wrong, so I sent it back, and I sent it back three more times. I became so frustrated that I just sent my meal back completely and asked for a refund. Tonight I was willing to give them another try… we went in. We were never greeted, so we sat ourselves, waited for 15 minutes. No one ever attempted to wait on us so we got up and left. Terrible service. Shame on you!

A girlfriend and I went for dinner and drinks. We ordered The Feast(a club sandwich on a croissant) and a grilled cheese with grilled chicken on it. I have never had such tasteless food in my life. The fries were definitely frozen from a bag and has no flavor at all. Not even salt or seasoning(which I would have put on them, if it had been on the table). The rest of the food had no flavor as well, no seasoning to give it taste. The waitress suggested we get the Shenanigans specialty drink because it was the best. We asked her what was in it and her response was«well, umm. I’ve only been back working here for like a day, so I don’t know. I’ll go find out.» This is my second time trying this place. The 1st time was the same experience and I thought I’d give it 1 more shot. Well now I know I will not be doing that again.

The owner needs to do some serious research on California law in terms of accepting gift certificates. She refused to take two certificates at once… these are not coupons, they are gift card /certificates that we payed CASH for and are legally allowed to be used at the same time.

What. A. Nightmare. Just when I thought to myself, «hey! The customer service is great and the food is… edible…» the owner of the place dashes any hope of every having a successful visit to Shenanigans. The situation: knowing our rocky past with Shenanigans, we purchased two Half Off Chico certificates for $ 25 each with the intention of using them someday to give the restaurant another shot when it had time to grow. The certificates said«limit 2 per customer,» which any reasonable person can understand and take to mean having $ 50 worth of certificate entitles us to $ 50 worth of food as it is a PAID certificate. Well, apparently the owner(or CEO, as she likes to call herself) didn’t understand that she signed on for when she signed the agreement with Half Off Chico. After the super sweet waitress did everything she could to allow to use both, we asked to speak to the manager, and the CEO came out guns blazing. Her first words were, «I didn’t okay this for them to do this to me, I can’t afford this right now… you get to use one, you need to deal with them to fix it.» After having explained to her that the certificates are like gift cards in that they represent cash value paid, and that she has a contracted amount she owes the customer who PAID for them, she still declined to honor them. This left us with $ 50 due for food, that was mediocre at best(see photos of burnt bread, certificate etc.), that we ordered solely to use up the certificate, AND having already paid for the certificates themselves. After trying to have a logical discussion, it was clear the Chief Executive Officer wasn’t going to budge. We paid, tipped the wonderful waitress — whom we really hope gets to keep every bit of the money she is owed, and left. As wife to a business owner, myself, I am appalled by the abhorrent«customer service» and«communication skills» this business owner displayed, and can very easily understand, now, why she«doesn’t have the money for this.» Here’s a thought: if you don’t know anything about business, become a chef, don’t start a restaurant and drag your customers with you through the mud until failure. My husband and I have done business with Half Off Chico and it was nothing but exactly what was promised: good advertising and a way to get your name out there. I don’t feel sorry for you, Ms. CEO. YOU signed the contract, YOU wanted the advertising opportunity, YOU agreed to have a business where feeding customers with gift certificates is a reality. It is YOU who owe your customers some respect and honor in upholding your end of the contract. Any business owner who doesn’t understand the simple fact that customers come first is doomed to fail. What a terrible business woman and utter disgrace. And so, we’re stuck trying to get our money we PAID back from Half Off Chico and had to pay for burnt food we didn’t even enjoy. Never. Again.

If you’re going for drinks only order when the female bartender is working she makes a hell of a drink, if it’s the other folks… stick to beer. The food is solid and I’ve had about half the menu the burgers and sliders are legit pub food. Would give a higher rating but the service can be deathly slow sometimes even when it’s not busy at all.

Service was great but the food needs A LOT of improvement. The bacon burger I ordered was hella dry, yet the bun was oily. The philly cheesesteak was dry as well. The fries were limp and soggy, but in a bad way, not in that delicious McDonald’s way. I appreciate how they hook you up with plenty of bacon though, too bad it was burnt!(Again, not in a good way.) Two stars because they have a lot of potential. I think as long as they work on the food preparation and the way it’s cooked they’ll be set. The sports memorabilia throughout the restaurant is cool too.

We went here for a friend’s 26th birthday for champagne brunch. To begin with, my friend made a reservation for 20 a week in advance and they told him«this is the biggest group we’ve ever had» so you think they’d take that in to consideration when staffing for the day — apparently not. First of all the building is weird because it’s an old converted house. Doesn’t fit the bar scene. Secondly, it has an Irish name but it’s a sports bar that is covered in kitschy holiday decorations(clearly the touch of a woman but DOESNOT fit the Irish theme, not the sports bar theme). Women’s Volleyball was the sport they chose to have on the big screen — go figure. They advertise Sunday Champagne Brunch but their only breakfast style food is an omelet bar which randomly closes in the middle of your party getting their breakfast. The cook literally came to our table and said he was done doing omelets so the omelet bar was closed. Also, our waiter said champagne brunch ended at 11am but we didn’t even get there until 11 so go figure. Upon ordering it literally took 20 minutes to get four beers. I seriously clocked the guy and then they were out of the beer we asked for so he just brought us something similar. For 20 minutes we had NOTHING — no food, water, beer, nothing! Based on their ticket time, my BF and I chose not to eat and left to go get burritos at Sol. The waiter’s excuse was that there was only one bartender to serve all 20 people their drinks — SOWHAT??? It still should not have taken 20 minutes! How long does it take to pour a few beers??? They have a really confusing theme — pub? sports bar? diner/café? Service is painfully slow and food is less than marginal. We will not return. (FYI our lunch at Sol was delicious :)
