Server was initially over whelmed with customers. Was short with us but bought our first rounders after was said and done. Suggest more staffing on holidays..

I love this place and almost don’t want to review it as its charm is in the fact it’s off the beaten path and not many know of it. That being said, everyone should get recognition and it’s always fun to hang with friends old. Voted the best«locals» pub, handle bar never disappoints. From micro brews that are new and creative to a German menu that simply tastes great, this relaxed atmosphere is meant to be enjoyed. The wait staff is always ready with a smile and laugh and ready to make a suggestion from their tap listing. Their suggestions are usually spot on,?and if not, they are happy to offer up a different brew. Check them out and I’ll see you there.

Tried to come here on Superbowl Sunday after hiking all day. Turns out, this place is 21 and over, and not wanting to leave out 9 month old in the car so I can drink some beer, we went elsewhere. I will say that the guy who helped us was very apologetic and was even kind enough to recommend another place that had craft beer and would allow kids. I would love to come back here some time and try out their menu — this time with no kids!

Since my last review I have been back twice. Both times were awesome! They have a new staff member who I previously remember from Beatnik’s. He was our waiter and he was a great joy compared to the last waiters I’ve met. He cared and was on top of his waiter game helping multiple tables and tending the bar without making anyone feel as though they weren’t being taken care of. Customer service is important & I love that I can love this place again and continue frequenting this venue for wonderful food and a vast beer selection. The flights are always fun!

Let me start by saying I rarely, if ever leave reviews good or bad. That being said, the wife and I drove to Chico to shop at Costco today, and wanted to try a new place for lunch, we looked at places to eat on Unilocal, and found the Handle Bar. Impressive selection of beers on tap, and German style pub food. I had the sausage and crostini, the wife had the brewben sandwich. Staff was friendly, and Service was average, but the food was incredible! I will be back!

This place is great. Been going there a couple times a month for the past year. Only drawbacks for me is every time I find a craft beer I like they are out of it the next time I go, but are still on the menu. Also, I wish they had just one light beer on tap like bud light or colors light for my friends who want to hang out but don’t drink the ale type craft beers. Staff is always friendly and food is pretty good. All in all I would definitely recommend.

This is my favorite bar in Chico for a couple different reasons. Firstly, the staff is awesome. They are always welcoming and recommend great beers and have a great attitude and interaction with the patrons. Second, the unique menu. The food here tastes as good as it looks! They have everything from snacks to full plates. It has a European feel to it with their own twist and the prices are more than fair for the portion sizes. Third, the beer selection. The staff works hard to keep a finer selection of micro brews that you won’t find at your typical college bar in Chico. Not only that but the staff is very educated and more than happy to explain the brewing process of each individual beer. If you’re looking for a good place to relax, listen to good music, and not be surrounded by a ton of newly 21 year old college students, give the Handlebar a try!

Sandwiches were outrageously good! Using pork from Llano Seco is a big plus(local, organic, delicious). The service was also super good!

We tried this place after reading reviews here on Unilocal and were extremely pleased! This is a nice little pub bar. The service was excellent, the beer selection great and the food very nicely done. Will happily try it again INSTEADOF the Sierra Nevada Taproom — that place is always packed and their food is marginal. Anyway, if you’re on the market for a nice quiet bar to watch a game, enjoy some good food and really nice selection of beer and wine — try the Handle Bar!

Come here very often and always have great service and awesome beer selection. As food goes I love love love the pretzels with beer cheese, spatzle, brewben, and cabbage! Currently sipping a Flat Tail Lil’ Green session ale. It’s a good night.

Great little place… although it wasn’t easy to find. I thought I had passed by as there is little signage from the north entrance. But it’s a really great place with an incredible selection of craft brews. One of the waiters was wearing a Russian River Brewery shirt and told a story about camping over night on his birthday to get a taste of Pliney! Check this place out if your in the Chico area.

Handle Bar is a solid place to go for a beer(or cider, in my case) and a bite to eat. The bartenders are all super nice, and knowledgeable about all the beer offerings they have. They can give you good recommendations, and they’re totally down to let you try a sample. The food is all really good; my favorite would be the beer cheese & pretzels, the portabella sandwich, and the roasted turkey sandwich. Put them in your mouth. Bite down. Enjoy. Plus, the outside patio is soooo nice. … When it’s not 100 degrees out. I’m only giving it 4⁄5 stars, because the inside can get a bit muggy at times. Otherwise, it’s one of my favorite places to go in town.

The bartender was incredibly friendly, even let us try some beers that we didn’t know what we would think of! My friend and I had lunch here as well! Cool joint, open, airy, and lots of seating! TVs for sport viewing available without that«sports bar» feel. Food is on point! Definitely order the Reuben! It’ll make a nun swear!

Best beer selection! I like the atmosphere it brings. My boyfriend and I have came here twice. We both really enjoy it. The servers are always knowledgeable with all beers. They are good at helping you choose the best tap beer to drink based on your favorite type of beer. Service can be a bit slow at times, but my boyfriend and I are usually in the middle of long conversations we rarely notice. Our friends are related to the owners and they recommended us to visit, we have not been disappointed. I recommend to check this place out.

Just visited again and ate for he first time. Had the vegan portobello sandwich and I haven’t been able to stop thinking about it. It was delicious with vegan cheese and olive tapenade. I was also pleased to see they advertise as vegan on the menu so I don’t have to ask for substitutions! Great service and a humorous waiter :-) I honestly thought the handle bar would tank purely based on location but I’m happy to be proven wrong! Oh! Forgot to mention they brought my pug water and let her chill on the patio with us. Another group also had a poodle and a doxie. Any place that’s cool with pugs is cool with me :-)

It was a fluke that we went to this place. We were looking for a snack and drink as soon as we arrived in Chico. We were also looking for something that was not a «chain» restaurant. So my fellow Unilocalers didn’t disappoint and we ended up at the Handle Bar. We ordered a Rueben sandwich and a buffalo chicken sandwich. The Rueben was sooooo good! Huge freshly carved pieces of pastrami filled up the yummy pumpernickel bread. The buffalo chicken was just the right hint of spicy. We had a couple of beers and then a sampler/flight and the final bill was very palatable. The service was just so-so. The place wasn’t too busy when we arrived and got pretty busy within a short period of time. The waiter seemed less than enthusiastic to be at work but everyone has a bad day!

This is by far my favorite beer bar in Chico.((mind blown)) They have perfect small and medium plates of food to accompany their always evolving selection of beer. The staff is knowledgeable and very accommodating when you ask for a suggestion. I like that they don’t pressure you and are very cool; not snooty at all. It’s a relaxing comfortable atmosphere. There is a patio where you can enjoy your beer and they allow dogs to chill. Parking is shared by other attached businesses and is always easy. Personal suggestion: Get the beer cheese & pretzels and try the Ruben. YUM!
