I have eaten at Tong Fong Low for many years and have even given them a positive review in the past. However I have noticed a pattern lately of decreased quality. I guess there must be a vegetable shortage that I haven’t heard about. The chicken chow mein I ordered this week had very few bean sprouts, no onions and no other vegetables.; noodles and chicken, that’s it. The chicken curry was similar and I guess curry powder has gotten expensive, too, because there wasn’t much curry flavor. The prices have also gone up The owner of this restaurant needs to go back to the formula that made her restaurant successful in the first place: good food for a good price.

This place is my favorite Chico restaurant. Super consistent great food. Always super fresh. They do vegetables better than anyone. I LOVE the staff, they always make us feel like family.

I went today and there wasnt a hello or nothing. Not even a smile. I got my food and dug in. Found a stringy piece of hair in my food(my hair is straight). Enough said. Luckily I was in a sort of good mood and didn’t cause havoc and they made me a new one to go. No apology, no attempts to make me want to come back so I won’t. Bye!

The food is great but avoid going durning the hour before close. They clean while you’re still trying to enjoy dinner. Imagine a massive dose of pine sol in the air while eating. Big thumbs down

I like the Tong Fong Lows in Oroville, this one is not as good. Maybe it’s just too busy a place the day we came, but the food is especially greasy, and staff not friendly. OK in a pinch, but there are plenty of good food places in town. Parking is easy, so that helps. Maybe next time.

First time here. Here’s the good & bad. The service was awesome. Our server always checked on us and the food came out fast. I would have given only 2 stars, but the staff really made a difference and for that they deserve the extra star. The food. I ordered the dinner for 2. The soup & apps were fine. No complaints there. When the main course came out the rice had no flavor what so ever. Very bland and was very dark. You could smell the soy sauce they cooked with. I’ve read other reviews and this seems to be the norm. The sweet & sour was too sweet. The balance was off. I felt like I was eating a desert instead of the main course. Cleanliness, the restrooms are dirty. Cob webs, walls/floors not clean and the sink has seen better days. The dining room seems to be surface clean and was not over decorated. Will I come back? Maybe only if I was in the area, but will probably only order the soup. Items were a little over priced by about 25%. Better food quality is all this place needs.

Ok so stop by this place due to work. But I have to say the negative review almost made me not come in. But I’m glad I did. Place was clean, staff friendly and the waitress was cute. I ordered the lunch special«tong font low lunch special» and it was delicious. Sorry no pic I was super hungry. If ever I come back to Chico in my next work project I’ll defiantly stop by and try something else. Come in at lunch it’s not busy and just the right atmosphere.

Great lunch spot! Me and my mom go out every so often, and we both really like this place. The one in Oroville is probably better, but if you don’t want the drive this place does in a pinch. I perfer veggie fare and soup and this place has both.

Totally perplexed about the high reviews. Went in to pick up lunch to go. Pretty quick service(came in at the end of the lunch period, not sure if that made a difference). I ordered beef with broccoli and pork fried rice. The broccoli was cooked nicely, beef not too chewy, but I have to say, I’ve never eaten something that was so brown(read: I’m expecting massive flavor) but sooo bland! I expect Chinese take-out to be saltier and I actually had to add soy and salt to taste anything! The rice had no flavor whatsoever either! Sorry, but even airport Panda Express has this beat. I want to give other dishes a chance, but these were the basics and I expect at least basics to be done well. I’m still lamenting the almost 8 bucks I wasted.

I had high expectations as we were very hungry. Ordered 2 vegetarian Buddha plates. Egg rolls were tasty. Chow mien noodles way too salty. Mushroom foo young was very salty as well. Ordered broccoli w garlic sauce and it was too salty. The tofu sweet and sour was bland. I had to go up to the kitchen area twice to request items as we weren’t checked on throughout the meal. They were often chatting amongst themselves. The server was nice just not thorough. One pos it that the place is very clean.

I just left this restaurant and I had the worst service. It felt like the wait staff knew because we were a large party and 18% gratuity automatically is added they didn’t have to give our group a second thought. A waiter spilled food on my purse and the floor next to my seat and didn’t even offer to clean it up or get something for me to clean it. I had to ask for her to bring me napkins to clean up the mess. Service was slow. An individual in my group received a dish that had one shrimp and she asked if she could have what she ordered — a shrimp entrée. The cook/staff refused to fix it and said you just have to stir it, the shrimp are on the bottom. A total of three shrimp(including the first one we counted) in the dish. I will not be returning. I hope in the future this restaurant puts more focus into service.

The combination plates are minimal on food. Had to order soup and egg rolls extra. NEVER had to at other Chinese restaurants. The fried pork rice was lacking flavor as well as the chicken chow main. The orange chicken was extremely strong with the bitter taste of WAYTOOMUCH orange rinds. Service was nice by the Chinese boy. Based on the food I got to give 2 stars. Service was a 5. Unfortunately though I won’t be returning to their establishment.

All the four stars go for the customer service given from the beginning entering the restaurant to checking out I’m personally satisfied with that although the food was not upto the name it was somewhat okay. But I simply care to try out new places and try to connect with others. Since i know the hardship of running a restaurant I would’ve given five stars but for the food they lost one star. Guys work on the food you’ll definitely get the five stars. And keep up the good work good team work.

This is one of my favorite Chinese restaurants. I’ve been eating at the Oroville location for many years and was really excited that they open a Chico location. A few of my favorite items are actually called different things from their Oroville location. Their prawns are amazing are the generals chicken and Mongolian beef. While the Oroville location will always have a special place in my heart, I’m excited to have a location closer to home.

This is the best Chinese restaurant in Chico. The service is always fast and the food fresh. My wife and I eat here all the time and have never been disappointed. Unlike some of the others, the kitchen is always clean. The Vegies are never over cooked and the chicken done perfect every time. I don’t understand some of the bad reviews. Perhaps they prefer Panda Express.

I ordered the shrimp and mixed vegetables lunch special to go. They said it would be ten minutes, but I had my meal in five minutes. It was hot and perhaps a bit saltier than I would have liked it but the shrimp was cooked just right. The vegetables were fine, but I enjoy mine crispy. These were a bit logged in the sauce. Pleasant staff and quick service.

Good food, good prices and great portions. I had General Chicken for lunch, w steamed rice for $ 7.50, but $ 2+ for a soft drink did not amuse, even with free refills. Still, the portion is so big, I took half to go for tomorrow’s lunch.(Seriously: half.) But half of «meh» is still meh. The sadly standard American-style Chinese Mystery Glaze was on everything, and General Chicken(complete with little chili pepper notation) is supposed to be spicy, but this was just sharp artificial orange and much too sweet. I get it, we’re in Chico, not Chinatown, but if I’m going to an actual sit-down Chinese restaurant, I expect better than Panda Express. I like Panda, but I don’t pretend it’s any more Chinese than Taco Bell is Mexican. The weak flavor and texture were especially disappointing, considering how good the food is at the Oroville location, where I had gone first. The Chico location doesn’t even come close. Atmosphere is modern and pleasant, staff exceptionally attentive. Food was made practically in front of me, and served quickly. Two stars for food, extra star for great service.

I tried. And I was excited. You know. To support a family restaurant and show some love to a POC owned business. And I’m still glad that I went because the service was above and beyond great. An impeccably clean eating establishment, which I appreciate. So what’s the problem? The problem is that the food is way, way too Americanized. I like Chinese food Chinese style. This is rare for a non-Asian. but its true. I brought my Mongolian beef home, washed it off, sauteed it in a little oil and added some local Asian style veggies and viola! Good eatin’.
