I think this is the best Chinese food overall in chicopee. Combined with the fact that they host shows just adds to the enjoyment. The food seems fresh and not as greasy as some other places. The prices are a little high but you pay for what you get.

A long time family favorite! Great food, wonderful staff! And the best scorpion bowls anywhere!!! We love Hu Ke Lau. I highly suggest you try it, and you will too!

Hu Ke Lau aside from being a decent restaurant also serves as a decent comedy and performance hall on the other half of the venue. Lots of parking however no lights outside past the first few spots can accommodate a large amount of people. The comedy shows are normally very popular names and when they aren’t doing shows they have performers and other events going on that kids love and can please a crowd. The food here is a large variety of different Chinese, Hawaiian and American dishes. They’ve also got a very popular buffet option that runs during the week on certain days and a lobster option that you must call ahead for when it’s in season. I’ve been here countless times and never remember to call ahead for lobster, as it’s normally a VERY fair value/price per lobster. The food is very standard and they seem to do everything pretty well. They recently added a sushi bar with some options, and while not out of this world is a nice addition to some of the meals. Everything on the menu plays it pretty safe and is very kid friendly with the options. Hu Ke Lau is famous for it’s Scorpion Bowl and there’s not a person in the area who doesn’t has a story about a crazy night that they drank too many. A fishbowl sized drink that is very fruit and boozy, a small crown of 151 in the center just waiting for you to take a drink. They’re very tasty and a must get if you’re going to the Hu Ke Lau. My suggestion would be to try the Zombie as they make it incredibly well there, and definitely a standout. It’s a fun place, it’s great for kids or large groups, and I’m glad they added some basic sushi because it fills the menu up a bit more.

The food quality on the buffet line is good although nothing exceptional in my opinion. My one complaint is food temps on most Chinese buffets are barely warm by the time you return to your seat and that was the case here unless you happened to be standing near when they replenished. It is to bad as the Hu Ke Lau has much going for them with several different stations for customized Chinese food items beside the traditional buffet selections. One thing I think that would help those who serve hot buffets is to have heated plate lowerators with trays. If there is a line and food is put on a cool or room temp plate by the time you return to your seat the food if hot will have cooled significantly. I do like the convenience and economy of a Chinese buffet but wish more attention would be spent on maintaining adequate food temperatures.

Great service! Great show! Awesome interactive entertainment! Food is good too! Drinks are great! Left 1 star off for the stage and seating area needing a makeover. We had a 30 person party there and they provided Excellent accommodations!!! **ask about The Big Kahuna!!!

How on earth is this place still open? My husband decided he wanted to try it again and even after reminding him of the last time we ate here and it was complete crap, he somehow managed to convince me to get takeout tonight. The«Chinese Mixed Vegetables» consisted of an insane amount of red and green peppers, paper thin carrots, canned mushrooms, broccoli, and water chestnuts cooked in what can only be described as cream of chicken soup! When I called to order I asked what was in the Dinner L, steak and mushrooms and got the obvious and asinine answer… steak and mushrooms. Well, no kidding. I then asked if it was in a sauce and the answer I was given was yes, a brown sauce. I made the epic mistake of assuming it would be a Chinese/Polynesian/Asian type sauce. Nope. It was pretty much Salisbury Steak. Again, canned mushrooms! The spring rolls and egg rolls have to be pre made and bought from like Sams Club or the like because they were utterly revolting and damp. Gold fingers are pure dough with greasy oil taste that’s enough to churn your stomach. And the fried rice, oh holy Christ… My dogs food is far more appealing. Western Mass is not exactly known for great Chinese food, but honestly, this takes the worst to a whole new level.

Ah, the Hu Ke Lau. I have affection for the place, despite that the food is nothing remotely to write home about. Still, it has two great charms for me. First, it’s a surviving holdover of the 1950s era of «Polynesian» restaurants, pushing the faux South Seas chic(or the Hollywood expectations of the same) while serving pseudo-Chinese food. Such places just don’t exist any more, and perhaps only in the Pioneer Valley — the home of many a throwback and anachronism — could one still thrive. The other is the hours. I’m rather fond of a place I can get a dinner at 1AM with no hassle, being a night owl(I’m typing this at 4AM). It may not be for all people, but long live Hu Ke Lau!

We had some friends visiting from China and as you may(or may not) know, my wife is a professional Oriental cook(Umass Amherst). We had both heard rave reviews about Hukelau over the years, so we decided to take our visitors there. We were three adults and two children. The place looks junky and old inside. The floor reminds me of a dingy bar: sticky, brown and looked like it hadn’t been cleaned in weeks. There was a man behind a counter looking at his smartphone. There was one other group sitting at a round table in back. We were the only other party there. The table and chairs were poor quality. They were hard, old, and there was no tablecloth. There were no cloth napkins and the cutlery was sub-standard and could have used another run through the Hobart. The waitress was nice, but she forgot one of the children’s drinks. Actually I think she misunderstood one of the women who has an accent. I’m not clear on that, but anyway, she quickly brought the drink so that was fine. She brought two pots of tea, but left the teabags in! And it was not Chinese tea, it was Earl Grey or something… inappropriate. The hot and sour soup was too sour — way too much vinegar! Our guests could not eat it. I was very hungry, so I did. My wife pecked at hers. The wonton soup was basically 3 frozen wontons overcooked in water with a little salt in it, maybe some chicken stock, but probably not; some shredded pork and a few snow peas. Very disappointing, both soups. We asked the waitress if they had fresh soft tofu, something our guests really missed from home. The waitress said she would ask the chef, and left right in the middle of taking our order! We sat there with our mouths open and tummies grumbling… five minutes later(why does it take that long to ask a question, the restaurant wasn’t full), she came back and said they did not have soft tofu. She took the rest of our order. We ordered 4 hot and sour soups, 2 wonton soups, spicy Hunan beef, spicy chicken and garlic chicken, also Hukelau special Sushi platter, scallion pancakes and friend rice. The food came out quickly and we were pleased about that. Until we started to eat. The sushi fish was not fresh, the rice was overcooked and hard(crunchy even). The two chicken dishes tasted exactly the same, neither was spicy at all. In fact, we thought everything tasted a little too sweet. Nothing was salty or spicy. The spicy Hunan beef was not spicy at all. It was flat and boring tasting. All three dishes tasted as if they were made with the same sauce, and it was warm, not hot. At one point, my son wanted to use the Men’s room, so we went in together. At least it was clean! We talked about it, and I decided to talk to the waiter(a young man with a military-style haircut) to see if we could return the two uneaten dishes. He was cordial but not pleasant about it. The waitress was apologetic and speedily processed our check. We did leave a tip because when it comes right down to it, you know the kitchen was at fault for the food, not the waitress. I’m sorry to leave such a negative review. I’ve lived in China and know that this is not Chinese food, it’s «Polynesian» food(whatever that means. But the descriptions on the menu did not match what was served. I’m giving it 2 stars because the waitress was good.

Went here on a Tuesday, it was not busy so we did not have to wait for a seat. Service seemed a little slow considering there were not many people eating dinner. We ordered the pu pu plater for 2 and the golden California roll sushi. The platter was a bit greasy but the sushi was excellent with a huge portion. My boyfriend is not really a fan of sushi but I got him hooked onto this sushi roll.

This was another family day Totally love this place The atmosphere is gorgeous .It is a must see place if your a quiet person. But on this day it was a ice box .I don’t think they understood please turn down the ac. We frozed our butts off this day. We ask so many staff but they seemed to not get it. Everyone doesn’t want to order a hot meal then it get cold in two minutes just because the ac is turned up way too high because someone is going through menopause. Come on think about all your costumers and their family. I tell you this much it will be a while before we bring our family back here. The food is great but if you can’t enjoy it amongst your loving family what’s the purpose of eating out???

I went here when I was young, and I recall that I liked the food. So, having a craving for Chinese-style food and not being anywhere near Chinatown in Boston or New York, I stopped in for lunch. I opted for the open buffet, which I realize is often a chancy thing to do. But, honestly, I can’t remember the last time I was entirely disgusted by a meal. Things were tough, gummy, and tasteless. Truly awful.

Good comedy venue, 4 stars for that. Pretty mediocre bad take out level food, 2 stars for that. Mixed drinks were very good. Prices were average for those, high for the entrees. I had spicy beef with garlic sauce and it was cloyingly sweet, no spice at all. The beef was a nice cut and we’ll cooked though. My wife thought her shrimp dish was overcooked but too sweet in the sauce also.

We go to the HuKeLau Christmas show every year. It’s pretty much a tradition but we are most likely going to change that after the service from our waitress this year. The show is always great! I can’t say a bad thing about that. The food is good too. Our waitress however was extremely rude. Don’t get me wrong I know it is an extremely fast paced busy time for the HuKeLau but there is no need to say things such as «well are you going to want anything else because as you can see I’m busy and can’t keep coming back» when we requested additional drinks. We had a party of 8, and the drinks didn’t come out all at once, what a terrible inconvenience for the restaurant when we want to order more. She was pushy and inconsiderate. We did not feel like guests. This is the one time of year my family all gets together and we were all disappointed. I don’t remember her name off the top of my head but info have it noted and will add it to this review later on. We may not return due to this experience. Keep in mind the gratuity was already added to the check as well. If it were up to me she wouldn’t have received half of that and I am a generous tipper who appreciates good service.

Still feel the same way about my first review. Food is mass produced. No attention to detail. Get people in and out as fast as you can. Try Bamboo House on Route 5 in Holyoke, MA. Better service, better food made to order.

Good for the occasional good comedian. Stick with the drinks if that. Kitchen has roaches. My grandfather did the service call earlier this year and saw roach eggs and dead bugs and mouse poop. Stay away. Im seriously shocked this place is even still open and able to pass any health inspections(and those I bet only get passed because of the prior notice of it happening).

It is a tiki bar inspired place in Chicopee MA. Let that sink in for a moment. It is also a comedy club. This onion has many layers! The food is safe no special treat but very far from bad. The staff, well they exist. Do not make it a special date. Come here with a sense of humor. For the comedy club Jason? Oh gosh no! I have no idea if the comedians are any good. But the dining experience is a trip. A much more entertaining experience than any national chain could hope to provide.

Hold up, wait a minute. did I really go here on New Years Eve and not write a review for this place? The show was fun for kids. The food was mediocre for everyone. Not too cheap. I think you can pay $ 3 extra for an ice cube that has seizure inducing blinking LEDs. That was cool. They tried to be vegetarian friendly, the Buddhist Vegetarian platter was ok.
