The historic chowchilla subway, located on chowchilla boulevard off highway 99 is– beyond reason of a doubt– preserves highest quality Subway in the Central Valley and greater Bay Area. It’s fitting that the chowchilla(Orthonyx spaldingii) is a passerine bird in the family Orthonychidae, because the Chowchilla subway is an endangered species, preserved by only a handful of loyal customers — including myself. The Chowchilla Boulevard subway one of two Subway locations in the town. Our location rests in the northwestern portion of chowchilla city limits. However to understand the weight of such a claim, one must first understand the history of Chowchilla, CA. Chowchilla is northwest of Madera at an elevation of 240 feet. The city’s population was 18,720 at the 2010 United States Census, up from 11,127 at the 2000 U.S. Census. Moreover, The name«Chowchilla» is derived from the indigenous American tribe of Chaushila(the spelling is inconsistent in reference guides) Yokut Indians which once lived in the area. The name itself evidently translates as «Murderers» and is apparently a reference to the warlike nature of the Chaushila tribe. This etymology is controversial among Native American scholars. [1] The city was incorporated in 1923 by whites. The town’s high school mascot is the«Redskins,» which has caused public upheaval, especially among Madera county Native Americans. The racial makeup of Chowchilla was 11,533(61.6%) White, 2,358(12.6%) African American, 376(2.0%) Native American, 395(2.1%) Asian, 37(0.2%) Pacific Islander, 3,313(17.7%) from other races. The Chowchilla Boulevard subway one of two Subway locations in the town. Our location rests in the northwestern portion of chowchilla city limits. It’s a medium sized subway that shares a parking lot with the 76 gas station. The gas station is notorious in its connection with the 1976 van kidnapping. Chowchilla made national news on July 15, 1976, when 26 students and their bus driver were kidnapped from a bus and held in a buried moving van at a quarry in Livermore, California. The subway has rated better than the second chowchilla subway, for the past 4 years. Its bathrooms are wheelchair accessible. The veggie delight $ 5.30/ 12″ sub has a caloric value of approx 670 calories. Ironically, although Madera county has a significant farming economy sector, the Chowchilla subway imports the vegetables from 100 miles outside of the Madera County to preserve quality and freshness. The staff is generous, helpful and cordial. [1] The author included a graphic of subway locations located in California Central Valley.

I love all Subway chains even though I’ve been opting for salads lately. Luckily Subway makes those too! Delicious and nutritious :)
