My friend and I wanted to get a good selection so we tried the combo with korean chicken and teri beef. The combo comes with macaroni salad and rice. The chicken was crispy on the outside and nice and juicy on the inside. The sauce they use is amazing. I also ordered the shrimp scampi. It definitely reminded me of Giovanni’s shrimp scampi in Oahu. Brought me back to my vacation. My friend didn’t like it as much because she said it was too garlicky. I love garlic, so more for me. That dish came with macaroni salad and garlic rice. Great amount of food. Ended up taking food home. We needed to make room for the Dole Whip and malasadas. It was sooooo good. Great way to end the meal. My friend and I shared it. The employees working was very nice and accommodating. This definitely became a favorite real quick. I can’t wait to go back! I highly recommend it!

Came by here for the first time on Friday for a birthday dinner and I enjoyed my visit. Place itself is nice and has some booths available, and the menu had a nice selection. However, as it was sundown already, it was pretty hard to read the menu w/o any lights shining on it. Ended up ordering the combo(rice+macaroni) with kalua pork and teri chicken, plus a dole whip and a soda. The wait wasn’t too long to order although a really long line formed really fast, probably cause there was only one girl working the register and answering the phone(would recommend two employees during rush hours). Food came out in good timing, and was very delicious. Was expecting more cabbage for some reason with the pork, but the teri chicken was tender and flavorful. Overall, I had a nice time, but I do hope they manage to get more staffing especially if it’s as busy as it was when I went(really full trash cans, not wiped tables, etc). Thanks!

I love this place it’s a lot better than other Hawaiian places and it’s really close to home. Everything is well priced and makes sense. No inflation on anything. Yum yum ahi poke here I come

Came here probably 5 times since it’s been opened, but my first review. Lots of parking in the back but not in the front. When I went today it was pretty quiet and slow. They have television and music for the guests. However, I think this place gets swarmed with teenagers and college students during school so becareful at what time you plan on coming. it’s right across southwestern and bonita vista high school. If it does get busy there’s also wingstop, halphens burgers and taco bell. Have many selections to pick: Ahi poke, korean and katsu chicken and Kalua pig. Very well done when cooked fresh. They also have dole whip that is just like Disneyland. Inside the little shack is a nice seating area but there are no restrooms, so make sure you go before coming in here!

Service is friendly, food is good but not great for the price I recommend the spicy ahi poke on rice. My only complaints are the chefs are always telling the worker at the front they are out of stuff I feel bad for the girl who is taking orders because the chefs should of let her know at the start of her shift so she can 86 those items instead of telling everyone who’s already ordered we don’t have this anymore. Also needs to be cleaned a little Overall I always come back to this place but a few tweaks and this place could really pop off I’m going to give them a 4⁄5 but my really review is 3.5

Ok, so it’s been over 2 years since my previous review; let me just say that HH has made me a fan today… finally! I live up the street from this place and drive by it on a daily so I feel utterly relieved that I can finally start to make HH an option whenever I get the hankering for some«homestyle» Hawaiian food, pun intended. The ambience is clean, quaint, and inviting; not too over the top. The service we received today from the girl at the counter was friendly and very helpful. The food was delicious; lava chicken, terri beef, chicken katsu, and Dole Whip for dessert. Needless to say, we were very satisfied and so glad we decided to give this place another shot.

YESSSSS. I honestly love this place so much more than L&L. The food tastes better, the portions are bigger, and it’s better priced. The theming on the inside is super cute and they try really hard to keep it with a bit of an islander feel The dole whip is on point and I’m going to spell this wrong… But the Big Brahha is just a yes. Best tasting Kahula pig was when I went to Maui and found a shack stand on the side of the road and they served it on the inside of a bamboo stick with a banana leaf. This is a choice second

I’m from Hawaii and was very excited to try this place. Now I wouldn’t expect it to taste exactly the same… but let me just say… this is a disgrace and bad representation of Hawaiian food. It tastes nothing like Hawaiian food. Not even close :( Another thing is the customer service. Please do not replace someone’s order with what you think they might like just because you didn’t have what they asked for then only let them know at pick up. Really? Who does that?! I wouldn’t be so upset if they at least asked me first. Also, the cleanliness. Omg NO! No no no. Anyway… I will maybe give this place another shot… maybe

Homestyle Hawaiian needs more locations! Although, the food here is pretty much worth the distance. I have been to 2⁄3 locations and I think this location has much better service and food quality. The good: — Lava chicken, which is kind of like chicken Katsu and under the meat is like a sweet soy sauce. Comes with rice and mac. — Loco Moco, a beef patty served over white rice with gravy and an egg(runny yolk) on top. SOGOOD. — Deep fried masubi. Enough said. — Hawaiian style ribeye streak with Rice and Mac? Another fave. The steak is full of flavor and life. — Service is awesome. The guy helping us out was super nice but genuine! I’m glad he works there! — food comes out pretty quick, just how I like it since I come when I’m superrrrrr hungry. The bad: — only one thing! Locations! Needs more locations. :(it’s not a bad thing though but it sucks how far both locations are from me since I’m like right in the middle of both! All in all, you cannot go wrong with Homestyle Hawaiian, after this restaurant, you’ll never wanna go back to L&L.

Let’s not get too excited about this joint. It’s better than L&L but that’s not saying much. Oh and hey they close at 8pm and start cleaning and closing up at about 7:30. I’ll come back and give the loco moco a try.

This 5 Star review is solely for the young man who came in on his night off to pick up his paycheck and saw the busy line out the door. Then without skipping a beat, he jumped behind the counter and started helping his co-workers distribute food and take orders. I was in line for the 2nd time to order more food for my family and was lucky enough to have him take my order this time around. He was calm and so polite. With a line out the door he never made me feel rushed and even made suggestions regarding my order. Courteous, attentive and extremely polite. He is exactly the kind of employee that I would want representing my business when I’m not around. If he(Ronald I believe was his name) isn’t in a leadership role already he definitely should be. ***Tried Korean Chicken for the 1st time and is was amazing!” ***

Once again not impressed. Maybe showing up for dinner at 715 pm and waiting for others to order(other walk-in customers and phone orders) before close wasn’t a good idea or I dunno … I wanted to sit inside enjoy my food but was told«to go only» OK fine but to get my order home and have it wrong … I wanted garlic shrimp scampi not spicy… Not only was my shrimp spicy but my rice and macaroni salad too. So spicy I couldn’t enjoy it and I love spicy food but it can be too much and this was! The hubs and kid liked their food says better than other places. Just maybe mixed up my order with someone else but yeah this was ridiculously spicy!

I’ve been here a couple times, and the food is always amazing. Today though, I decided to finally write a review because service was so exceptional today. I came in with my friend, and we were greeted promptly. It looked really busy because there was a line, and a couple customers were already seated in the booths and tables. The young woman at the cash register was very nice and definitely moved with urgency, but was also efficient at what she was doing. Her name was Hazel, I believe. She took our order, and told us our food would be out in a couple minutes. Our food came out, and told us if we needed anything else, we could let her know. Not a lot of food places I go to, tell me that when I get my food so Hazel got a star for that. The food was amazing, as always, and I got the Lava Chicken with a scoop of rice and macaroni salad. I should’ve opted for another scoop of rice instead of the macaroni salad because I seriously had a lot of chicken left. The chicken was great, tender and soft and it was fried nicely and that lava sauce they put over the chicken is just absolutely heaven. While we were eating, Hazel checked up on us and that got her another star! She was so friendly and accommodating and her service was really the cherry on top of everything that we tasted and experienced today! Keep up the amazing service!

This place is one of our go to places as the staff is very friendly we had a party of 6 we all ordered and got 2 lemonades we sat down to eat it there this time our bill was 65 dollars. We asked for a glass of water and it was refused this was very surprising coz this is a sit down dinning place and a lot of Asians just like to have water with there meals I walk next door to the oil change place netted to them and ask for a glass of water this was highly disturbing to us and the guys at the oil change place were confused I said thank you and walk Bach to the restaurant I know California is in water shortage and the guest have to ask for water that I don’t mind it’s there statement WEDONTHAVEWATER —- what’s weird is the health code requires the restaurant to have running water if they don’t the health department can close them down till its restored

Dole Whip was awesome and meat Lumpia was good — Friendly staff — nice quaint place — dining area and windows need a little cleaning however but everything was good FYI — When you have pitchers of water on the counter and I ask for a small glass of water and you say no to me but offer me to purchase bottled water that is NOT great customer service — don’t say no to your guests for something that simple — there’s too much competition

Ordered for pick up during the dinner rush. One person working the front, answering phone, helping customers, bagging food. He was so busy but was cool the whole time. I craved a lemonade, and i’ve never had theirs before. There are alot of flavors to choose from, a I don’t remember them all. I ordered the lilikoi lemonade and it hit the spot! The front of person in front prepared my lemonade by pressing lemon wedges and handshaking the lemonade together too. This guy was so busy! My order took longer than the 10⁄15 mins he said it would take. He gave me a free dole whip, which was very considerate. I’ve been wanting to try that too. Because they were so busy, my korean chicken was not as good as i’ve had. The batter lacked seasoning. Of course i’ll be back though. I really appreciated the service that day. Thanks HH !!

I totally forgot about this, but a fellow Unilocaler messaged me today asking if I received any«threatening» messages from the owner after I wrote a bad review. He received threatening messages and the owner also took pictures of him and his wife and put it up on facebook talking mad shit. WTF??? I just remembered that I did receive a message shortly after, but forgot to address it. Here it is… «My name is mo, I’m the owner. I regret to inform you that u are officially banned from eating at our establishment. I don’t appreciate you making my employees stay over an hour and yell at them, and also putting my front girl in tears. It’s just food! Were people and have lives too. Your not the kind of people I would ever serve. We treat our customers like family and make things with love. I do appreciate u coming in but you are no longer welcome. Mahalo To the owner: I did not yell at your girl nor did I make your staff cry. Again, my friend who ordered way after me… got her food before me. I simply asked your staff for my food. She realized she forgot to put my order in and did not know how to address the issue. I assure you… I did NOT yell at her. She cried because she couldn’t handle simple customer service. You say it’s just food, but food is your business. I have a life too, Please don’t think I wanted to spend an hour waiting and another 30 minutes arguing about why I didn’t get the food I paid for? I’m not the type of person you want to serve to? Well you are not the type of owner I want to give business to. EVERYONE, Chris’ Ono Grinds is where it’s at anyway!

Went here for dinner. Had the beef with Mac salad & rice. Beef was flavorful & tasted hints of ginger. The macaroni salad was a little soggy like it had too much mayo. Rice was dense but good enough to eat. Hubby had the same but he got chicken Katsu. Chicken was crunchy on the outside & moist on the inside. There is no table service like a restaurant. You refill your own drinks at the soda fountain & take your tray in the trash. Lady at the register was nice & explained everything. The dining area is fairly small. A lot of people come here. Friday nights seem busy. They have dole whip too but I’m always too full to have one. We will be back.

Was craving the garlic shrimp plate. So I came in today and there was one girl working in the front. It looked like there was 6 parties waiting for their food already since everyone is just sitting around waiting and with no food Infront of them. It was my then to order. I ordered the garlic shrimp plate($ 11) with the shells off and the spicy ahi poke($ 12). Total was about $ 25 with tax. That’s pretty pricy for just two items already. The garlic shrimp was good. Not too much garlic over powering but just about right. The ahi poke was alright. had better though. I probably wouldn’t come back here on a regular basis but probably come back when someone else would take me here without choice. Just over priced. If the price was a bit lower then id probably come back. The girl up front was friendly and I the garlic shrimp was tasty. Therefore, I give this place a rating of two stars. Service was slow. Waited almost a half an hour over my garlic shrimp plate and the ahi poke. They need more workers here that’s for sure.
