L&L Hawaiian Barbecue

I came in here two night ago to walk into a wet floor with a handy man fixing their soda machine. I get it things happen. I go to order food and obviously the soda machine is broken so you have to buy a $ 2.20 can drink with no ice no refill, or not have a drink at all. At least offer a discount as its not the customer fault your machine broke. Then we waited 22 minutes to get two plates of food which seemed like eternity. We got out food and the entire time we were eating all I could hear was «elle» as the receipt said her name, and one of the cooks talking extremely loud about getting drunk and taking extasy over the weekend then about a different weekend when the cook got in a fight. They used so many curse words then so fake greet the customers as they walk it. Honestly ruined my meal having to listen to these two disrespectful people. On top of that they failed to put cabbage on my mixed plate. I will never go here again.

This location don’t believe in answering their phone and they take a long time in completing your order. Don’t recommend

Ordered Kahlua pork with no cabbage weeks ago and it was way too salty. It was like putting a spoonful of salt in my mouth. I called them to let them know about the too salty Kahlua pork and maybe it was an oversight that day. Ordered it today and again, way too salty. The smoke of the pork is there and the saltiness goes away when I squeeze the liquid out of the meat. I’m guessing there should be a balance between the smoke of the meat and the saltiness, but my experience above has been otherwise. I hope they fix this because Kahlua pork is the one menu item I love to order @ any L&L.

We like to come here for Dole Whips! It’s not as great as getting one at Disneyland but it’s still pretty darn tasty!!! Only complaint I wish they had better size options… It’s huge and kind of pricey and it’s eat too much!!! Best to share!

Worst place ever. ANSWER THE F**KING PHONE !!! How can I place a order for pick up if you just let the phone ring and ring. There is no way that little place is ever that busy. Don’t waste your time here.

Though the food is good here as in any other L&L in the world, be prepared to wait a loooooooong time for your order. They only had two guys cooking…

Chicken Katsu and Katsu sauce is really good! Comes with a side of rice and a side of macaroni salad. I like the macaroni salad, my fiancé changes the Mac salad for French fries and they compensate well! Only down side is to go or in dine in are both same wait time, slow! Had to remove a star for slower service but other than that, food is good!

I seriously come here just for the macaroni salad I love it! I usually get the katsu chicken plate but this time i opted for the sandwich and of course a side of macaroni salad. I also love that they have dole soft serve, Yummy!

OMGGGG I love L&L, but this location SUCKS!!! It always takes FOREVER for all orders, and can they please hire people who know how to take orders at the register??? They seem to always F*@! up our order! And I always let it go, but I just had to write a review finally. Too many mistakes over the many visits. Today, the guy at the register told me that the breakfast plates, were the same thing as a loco moco, that is FALSE! I told him I wanted a loco moco, but with sausage instead. When I got home, there was no gravy, it was just sausage, rice, egg, AND the egg was over medium and I told him, no, «I did NOT want it over medium, I wanted it over easy, so the yolk was runny.» What a waste of time and money. Such a disappointment.
Another one of the many bad experiences I have had with this location is that one time, I called from home to place my order, the girl placed me on hold, I started driving there, it takes me 5 minutes to get there, then I had to find parking, and wait in line, I am STILL on hold, I finally get to the front of the line, still on hold, and asked the young girl, with my cell phone to my ear still «do you have someone on hold?» lol what a joke, she was just like oh, uhhh and looked at the store phone.
And if you are looking for an L&L to cater an event, DO NOT go with this one location. When I called for quotes, going off of the catering info I picked up from the store, the owner told me, oh, well those are old prices. They still had to update that, and would not offer me those prices in the store. So horrible. I had my wedding at Eastlake Country Club, and I ended up going with the L&L from El Cajon, owner, Rudy. He was much nicer, and his prices were WAAAYYYY better! And all of our guests LOVED the food! Thanks Rudy from El Cajon L&L!

The food usually takes awhile to come out as its prepared fresh, however, the wait is always noticeably long every time. The food itself is usually great but the wait time tends to kill the experience for me.

Please help me to understand why it takes over 20 minutes to make two spam musubis?
I was in there yesterday and there was one family in there before I ordered and after about 15 minutes of waiting four groups came in. All four of those groups got their food before me and all I ordered was two spam musubis.
Please help me to understand how that happens???
Every time I come here service is slow and the food is sub par. I don’t recommend coming here unless you want to waste your time and money.

I was starving. Went here to pick up an order for Chicken Katsu. When I got home, I am just extremely disappointed because the chicken tasted weird. I don’t know if it was rotten and refried or it was cooked a few days ago and reheated. There is just something wrong because the chicken was dark, dry, and slimy at the same time. I called them and all they had to say is that they serve fresh chicken! Well my chicken is obviously not fresh. Overall, I am not coming back. If you enjoy eating food that a dog could not even devour, then I suggest go here.

I had L&L catering for my wedding reception and my guest loved the food! I will certainly be eating there again!

Catering order was made an hour late. That’s no exaggeration. This place is so authentic they are even going by island time apparently.

Disappointed!!!
Came in today to pick up an order that I had placed by phone, it’s a rainy day and was looking forward for some BBQ chicken. I ordered a kid chicken katsu, and 2 side order of BBQ chicken, I get home and I open my side chicken and sadly find some more chicken katsu that I can’t even eat because I can’t eat bread!!! SO I call and let them know and the girl that answer the phone (by the way she answers it just with an Hello not specifying where we are calling) tells me that the manager said to bring it back and they will give me the right chicken!!! really??? And what makes u think that I’m going to put my kids back in the car and drive all the way there again? Excuse me ??? I get it «everyone makes mistakes» but since YOU made the mistake when I told you that I didn’t want to drive there again you should of said next time we will give you that side chicken on us for the inconvenience instead of simply telling me «oh I’m sorry about that! «
I came here twice a week because my kids love the chicken but after today I’m going to give my business to someone else … Thanks for making me go to bed craving that damn bbq chicken

Good Hawaiian is so hard to come by in San Diego :(. I come here when I’m craving but I wouldn’t consider it up to par with what I know good Hawaiian food to taste like. I’m going to start with the pros… I like the option to order a mini plate because the regular portions are huge. Even a mini plate delivers a filling portion. I’m a fan of the lau lau. I would definitely order that again. You can’t go wrong with pork and taro leaves :). The lilikoi passion drink is my favorite.
Now for the cons… the curry sauce on the katsu curry was super salty and extremely thick, almost like a paste. Even with heaps of rice, that salt factor was strong. Hopefully they dont always make it this way. The garlic shrimp was too greasy for me… it left like this oily, garlicy essence on my hands. I had to wash my hands several (and I mean several) times and put on lotion to cover up that smell… yikes lol. Their macaroni salad (one of my favorite Hawaiian dishes) doesn’t wow me.
Can someone just franchise a Zippys here? Lol
Overall the food is okay. If anyone knows of an authentic Hawaiian eatery in the San Diego area please let me know. :)

They denied my coupon! The cashier said its their address but they don’t accept it. Wtf! I was craving some of their food too. I’m so disappointed in their business.

Love this place it’s amazing. The quality of the food and taste are perfect and just right. I always order the mini chicken BBQ plate and it’s enough food. The service is good too they are patient when asking on what’s that plate and this plate. I recommend this place very highly.

The food was great, especially the Dole Whip. It’s a taste of Disneyland without the Disneyland ticket. Also, at $ 3.99, it’s a bargain compare to how much you pay at Disneyland. It was worth the drive from Birdland to Eastlake to try something different, and for now, only available at this location. C’mon down, car or bus, try it, you won’t regret it.

Craving for hawiian I come to L&L for the past 8 years but it seems like this place has an inconsistency with the typical L&L joint.
Got my typical chicken katsu mini but the sauce was watery and my chicken was drier than normal. There was a lot more macaroni salad but too bad I didn’t eat half of it. Do like how they pack so much in the mini box.
