Salt Creek Jr. Golf Academy

My child attended the Nike Golf Camp instructed by Phillip Schmidt. ALERT! Do not spend your hard earned money on this program. Upon observation of day 1 it was apparent that the instructor was not qualified to be teaching golf, let alone be around children. So beware. Upon further research and speaking with several other parents at the course with talented older junior golfers — boys and girls alike — I learned that is individual, Phillip, has a history of being short-​tempered, unprofessional, and rude to juniors. To top things off… he is not qualified, meaning he is not a certified instructor… zero credentials. Sad to see a nice facility like Salt Creek to be associated with such a person. If you decide the location is advantageous, I highly recommend seeing the other instructor there. His name is Brian Gorman. Or nearby Eastlake G.C. O.J. Amaya is very good and great with kids. Last thing… if you decide to try Salt Creek, I would ask if the instructor is currently PGA teaching certified or better yet, how many children, former students, has Phillip influenced in obtaining a college scholarship. I’ll save you the trouble… zero. When I asked Phillip these questions he got defensive. When I told him that my daughter would not continue with his instruction, he told me that I was making a huge mistake. It’s funny, me same parents that I asked at the course said he said the same thing to them. Karma. I am certain Salt Creek will realize they have an unqualified hot head sooner than later. Not good for business at all and the folks that run Salt Creek are such nice people too.
