Cash only. The carnitas are really good and delicious! I’m from a part of Mexico where they make the best carnitas in the country. This carnitas have the right flavor. While I waited for my order, the young man gave a taste of the carnitas. It took me by surprise since that is really not common in other restaurants. I loved it! People are very nice, friendly and attentive. They seem to have many other choices. Plenty of space to bring the family to eat. Definitely coming back and hopefully they take credit cards next time.

My family and i are new to the area and went in a random walk around town one day. We came across this normal looking storefront restaurant and my girlfriend went in to see a menu. She was pleasantly surprised when she got to the counter and without saying a word the gave her a piece of the meat that had just come out of the pit. It was delicious. I was waiting outside with the baby and she sent our daughter out to ask if i wanted tacos. I said sure and intended on waiting outside but decided to go inside as it was hot outside. Inside was nothing special. It’s not overdone with décor like so many small Latin joints I’ve been to in the past and i like that. It’s well maintained and I never felt as though i need to think about sanitation. Once i got the kids settled in a booth I stepped over to the counter to get another piece of that amazing carnita. We all wound up ordering 3 tacos and horchatas all around. The meat was fantastic by itself but when it was paired with the spicy beans and red rice and all the fixings that go with tacos. Their hot sauce is nothing to mess with but personally I like the chunkier salsa. Overall we were super satisfied with this place and will definitely be making this or go to joint for carnitas and tacos.

My 2nd time coming here and what a disappointment and waste of money. How can they call these carnitas? They’re awful, I came here because earlier I had bought bought 3lbs. at a grocery store, them realized that 3lbs wouldn’t be enough to serve to my large family. However the grocery store ran out so I had to come here for another 3lbs. I was so embarrassed to serve these carnitas, everyone loved the carnitas that I bought at the grocery store which were half the price. The carnitas from this place were bland, the color of the meat was gray and just didn’t look or taste right. Well lesson learned, I won’t be coming here again.

Pretty good carnitas!!! And you can have them everyday of the week. Service was good and friendly. You can also get birria and menudo on the weekends. The salsa was a little disappointing but IMNOTTHATPICKY. If I want all I have to do is swing by Los Comales and ask them to sell me some of theirs and then come here and eat. It wasnt bad or anything. But I LOVETHESALSAATLOSCOMALES!!! Well, I have a new place to go for CARNITAS!!! Nice!

Earlier today, I went to Carnitas Sabas Vega Jr(it’s like fried pork cut up in small chunks, looks like shredded) in Cicero(Cermak and Austin) for their pre-grand opening celebration. Upon entering, I was immediately greeted and seated in a hospitality only comparable to visiting family for a fun summer barbecue. From beginning to end their service was remarkably attentive, kind, not overbearing or rude. Quite the contrary, it was sweet and homey. The full menu wasn’t up yet as they were showcasing the house specialty, Mexican-style pork. For those of you that have never had carnitas, think of it as a barbecue style of pork that needs no sauce. It’s so juicy and tasty, that even as I write this I begin to salivate. The outside of the pork was almost like bark on a roast, but lighter and not overtaking the entire bite, rather only enhancing the flavor of it all and melting in your mouth after the first chew. Having had my fair share of carnitas at other places, the way they do things at Carnitas Sabas Vega Jr easily has the competition beat! Even the texture of the meat is slightly different given the processes through which they work their craft. My favorite part was the fatty skin… melts in your mouth and then you have a small piece of bacon left to it. Mix the flavors of the delectable meats with lime, salt, and your choice of salsa, you’ll understand why I’ve taken the time to make this review. Also, I met the owner(who is also the chef) and his family. Lovely people, sweet and very attentive. Turns out that this is a family tradition of decades! I truly wish them the best of luck! and I encourage you to try them for yourself.
