I went to Ann Taylor yesterday to find a suit. The store was fairly busy, so I kept to myself and tried on a couple options quickly. When I went to check out, my mom had a question for the cashier(let’s called her Pleasant because she was actually very nice) about some pants, so Pleasant started to help my mom and left her post at the cash register. Another associate, who I can only assume was some sort of manager cause everyone kept screaming her name(Lexi), came to check me out while my mom and Pleasant were running around the store. Lexi rang up my suit jacket and I asked why the 40% discount advertised all over the store hadn’t been applied. She told me the discount didn’t apply to suiting. Ok, no big deal, I’ve worked in retail I know there are limitations to sales. Anyway, Pleasant came back to help finish ringing me out cause Lexi«[couldn’t] handle doing the register». Pleasant then proceeded to take 40% off my suit, so I questioned if that was right cause Lexi had just told me no(I was trying to correct Pleasant’s error without being a b***h about it– I’m the type of person to always bring up discrepancies even when they are not in my favor). Pleasant calls Lexi over to clarify the discount at which point Lexi turns to me and says in the sassiest way possible«I JUST told you the discount doesn’t apply to suiting.» I think i was in shock from the amount of sass I just witnessed cause then a flurry of 3 associates somehow decided to allow me to have the 40% discount anyway(I’m still confused about that cause in my mind I was just trying to tell Pleasant that the discount shouldn’t apply to my suit). I guess I’m appreciative that all the confusion just saved me 40% on a suit that shouldn’t have been discounted, but I can’t get over the way Lexi spoke to me when I was only trying to help save Pleasant’s butt. Pleasant apologized like 80 times for which I thanked her cause she was extremely nice and helpful throughout the entire process. I don’t know if Lexi is always like that, or if I caught her in a particularly lovely moment, but not every customer is out to scam retailers. I’ve worked plenty of retail jobs and know exactly how stressful it can get, but I have also never, ever been spoken to by someone like that, especially when I was spending over $ 200 in their store.
