Artists’ Beads

My first visit to Artists’ Beads in Clifton was last Sunday for a friend’s daughter’s birthday party. There were 12 ten year olds attending and the group started out by Martha, the owner talking about beads and the art of making a piece of artwork a necklace and or bracelet with beads.
The next step was picking out the beads in the store they would use to make their own necklace. It took the girls a while to select the beads because of the amazing colorful selection. Once the girls had selected their beads, we went upstairs to their workroom for the girls to lay out their works of art.
We then, me and my friend Sue helped the girls by cutting out the string for the necklaces and then Martha helped the girls finish their pieces by putting the finishing knots and glue to keep the their final works of art in place.
In this workroom we were able to bring snacks, drinks and cupcakes for the girls to enjoy for the party.
Martha the owner you can tell is passionate about the art of beading and is happy to share her talents through each customer who enters the doors at the Artists’ Beads in Clifton, please stop by during your next visit to the gaslight district and you won’t be disappointed.

I just LOVE this place. The minute you walk in you are flooded with colors on every wall of beads and jewels and buttons and just fun stuff that you can buy to create your own work of jewelry art! I have been to other beading places before, and I can say that this place has extremely fair prices. They also have a selection of items that are handmade from women in African countries (which are obviously more expensive), but the idea is to support fair trade.
The best part is the owner (I forget her name… shoot!). Every time I go in she makes a point to give me her undivided attention and learn about what I want to do and create. She is just so friendly and helpful, what else can I say?! Every time I go in there is a new animal: cats, dogs, even a parrot once! They let me hold the parrot and take a picture too :)

Bead stores are not my thing. I’m not creative or patient enough to string together little bead after bead to make something even remotely worth giving someone to wear. No thank you.
However, if beads are your thing, then you’ll want to check out this hidden gem in Clifton.
You probably have walked by this place again and again and didn’t even realize it was there (it may call for a better sign or awning out front.) It’s basically across the street from the US Bank on Ludlow — a tiny shop filled with beads.
It’s cute — a one room store with a table in the middle for bead making! There are jewelry all over all the walls so you can grab and go if you need to pick up a gift or something quickly, and then they have thousands, if not millions of beads from you to choose from and make something with.
Again, not really my scene, but if you like the concept, then this is a spot to check out for sure.
