Just the other side of Fountain Square from Straus Tobacconist, I like to think these two have a bitter rivalry, tainting the tobacco supplies of the other, turning off their humidors, breaking their air filters. If there is such a battle, Straus is probably winning, since they have a better reputation. But I happen to like Cincinnati better. The ambience in the store isn’t as cramped as Straus; it feels refined and relaxed. The selection, basically, is the same, other than Cincinnati having their own pipe tobacco blends, but you can get the same sorts as at Straus. Service is equally efficient at each, but Cincinnati’s employees seem more estimable, like it would be an honor to sit down to a scotch and a cigar with them. But they don’t lord it over you. Their one drawback is their lack of beer and wine, which makes Straus a one-stop vice shop and perhaps explains why they lead in local carcinogenic fame.
