A true barbershop where a man can speak his mind. Dan is a bit grumpy most of the time but don’t be afraid to interrupt his chatter. If you really want to know what is going on in Clifton’s Ludlow business district, Dan is the man to talk to; he has his fingers on the pulse of Ludlow at all times! I’ve been seeing him for six years now and he always seems to know what to do with my hair without me saying much. He does beards too.

I have been a loyal customer for four years. Dan have provided excellent service for many years. However, he suddenly snapped one day and kicked out all his customers while telling us to f out. I tried coming back again and he kicked me out of his store for asking about his work schedule/availability. I am not sure if he is mentally stable and I hope he gets some help before he loses his business. He was my favorite barber ;(

Been going to Dan for the last couple of years. I’ve gotten a great cut every time, even when requesting unconventional styles. Dan adapts hair styles to your face/head. He is extremely talkative, but never takes too long and I’ve never had to wait more than five minutes when I walk in. Wholeheartedly recommend Clifton Barbers.

I live in Clifton; when I first moved here, I got my hair cut there for the first few months(always by Susan, who is super-sweet). The first couple of times I was there, I walked in, waited on Susan to be available and had a drama-free haircut. Dan would spout and rant and rave to customers in his chair about whatever was on his mind, and often it made me uncomfortable just to have to sit and listen to him, but there were few other options within walking distance of my home and, as I say, Susan was all right. But there’s no way around it – Dan is loudmouthed and rude. One day I walked in, as usual, with nobody sitting in the place. Dan comes out of the back; I asked if Susan was available to cut my hair. He bristled and asked me if I had an appointment; when I replied that I did not, he dressed me down at the top of his voice about how«when you walk into a professional hair salon without an appointment, you take what you are offered or that’s it.» I had never before been asked to make an appointment, nor was there any sign visible that said walk-ins were not welcome, and I said as much to him. I reminded him(if he even recognized me at all) that I had been there several times previously and had always been able to wait on Susan to cut my hair. He again berated me, at which I pointedly asked him if he wanted the business or not; he cursed and I walked out. Being new in town, I didn’t know too many good places to go and didn’t have friends or family in town that I could call and ask, so I had to resort to Supercuts(awful, BTW). Later, I felt bad about the run-in with Dan, because I had gotten a little heated(not undeservedly so, given that he was cursing at me and belittling me, but I am normally a pretty zen guy), and I felt sorry for Susan who, again, had never been anything but nice to me when I was there. And Susan had, truth be told, given me pretty good cuts. I resolved to give it another try the next month. Next month comes around, I walk in and take a seat. There’s two people in the chairs — one in Susan’s, one in Dan’s, She gets done and comes over to invite me up to her chair, then all of a sudden Dan stops cutting his customer’s hair, comes over with scissors in hand, points at me with them and says, «I remember this guy. Do you have an appointment or not?» Susan’s face turned beat red — she looked like she was about to cry out of embarrassment — and she immediately walked into the back. I can’t imagine how she puts up daily with that guy; kudos to her, I guess. I told Dan that I did not have an appointment and had no intention of making one based his treatment of me, and I walked out. Haven’t been back since. Luckily, I’ve found several better barbers in town that don’t necessarily require an appointment, that give me a great cut and that appreciate my business. Moreover, I don’t have to sit in the chair and be made uncomfortable by angry ramblings and megalomaniacal self-fancy from the barber standing next chair over.

I’ve been going here since I was at UC a couple years back and have to say, Dan and Susan have always been accommodating to me. Being a minority, I want to say that I’ve never felt berated and put down here. Dan seems to shoot his mouth about everything, no matter who. But he’s always been super nice to me, making me feel like a regular even after only my first initial visits. Cuts are simple and classic which is what I want. I’ve always been satisfied with the quality of my cut.

The cut was mediocre at best, but what made my experience at Clifton Barbers really unbearable was the incessant, racist chatter that the owner/barber engaged in. Not a pleasant experience in the least.

Dan the barber used to work in a frou-frou salon but now refuses to work with chemicals. So while he won’t do more than spray hair with water before cutting it, I’ve been able to get a salon-caliber haircut at this place. The lack of styling means I instantly know whether I got a decent wash-and-wear haircut — which is almost always the case. Oh, and he’s good with split ends too. The man respects natural, un-messed-with hair. He knows how to cut difficult thick hair and gives good advice on how to maintain it. His haircuts tend to have a very good shape. A note on hours: Dan works with his wife but only he cuts women’s hair, and he may still be out on Tuesdays teaching a class. So men’s hair can be cut Tues-Sat, women’s possibly only Wed-Sat.

I have been going here for years and have never had a bad experience. I always get a great haircut for a reasonable price($ 15 – 20). Dan and Susan are both wonderful and always cut my hair the way I want. Dan loves to talk, so you get all the neighborhood news while you wait, especially if another regular is in. This is a real barber shop, so don’t expect any scalp or ego massages like you get at the Aveda school. Most importantly, my wife always approves of my hair when I get home!

This guy is rude and unpolite, excessive talkative and get upset when you ask him something you want with your hair. Mostly he do whatever he wants.
