Hamilton County Courthouse

Grand old lady of the bygone era. As a personal injury lawyer I have tried many cases there. The sheriff’s staff to the judge’s staff are friendly and helpful. This is a safe courthouse with screening but is not so obtrusive to make our court house feel like a jail.
The clerk of court staff from Tracy Winkler on down are helpful, courteous and caring though they can not give legal advice.
The bathrooms for a busy courthouse are fairly clean most of the time. The lawyer lounge is a plus though I rarely use it. it really has not changed all that much fro 55 years ago when my grandmother used to take me there.

Do not park in the lot directly across the street from the Court House. The sign says $ 5 but if you look closer it says after 4pm. Jurors park in the lot before this one. It’s only $ 6 after you get your ticket stamped by the Jury Supervisor.

In general Cindy fashion I waited until the very last minute to pay my ticket (that I shouldn’t have gotten in the first place) I finally decided ok, the fight is over I’m not gonna win, I have to pay this dang thing. I get online to pay it, and turns out they don’t accept Visa credit cards. What the eff?! Thank god I live downtown, I jumped in my car in my pajamas not even joking, I think it might have been 8:49pm and they closed at 9:00.
The nice man at the door directed me down the long scary hall way of doom. You know they make you pay tickets all the way in the back to make you think about what you did on the long walk down. The lady was about to close up shop, but was super friendly (which I was extremely surprised about) and let me pay before she finished up. I love when people are excited about their jobs, even if it’s accepting peoples tickets at 9:00pm at night. Cheers to her for being awesome! Still, 3 stars for not taking credit cards. Baloney.

Every February I attend an event at the Hamilton County Courthouse. Every year, it is unreasonably warm to the point I know to dress in layers because it feels like summer in the courtrooms. Every year, they run out of toilet paper in the womens bathrooms. The courthouse itself is very old, but gorgeous. The paintings in the large courtroom (I believe it’s 360) are a bit racist — there’s one of soldiers fighting Native Americans. This building definitely shows its age though — every year I see some area blocked off for repair and the paint is peeling in some areas.

I was fortunate enough to get selected for jury duty. As I hear not everyone get a chance to perform their civic duty by serving on a jury with their peers.
What is there to say except for the fact that I did not once get the chance to see the inside of the courtroom. The pluses on serving include:

The architecture of the building is nice, but the wear and tear that is visible in certain parts of the building sadden me and make me want to pay more in taxes (JK).
