I had the opportunity to meet the(in)famous celebrity photographer Tyler Shields and view his photos at this gallery. It was a great experience and the event was very well run; from the friendly staff/volunteers and the complimentary adult beverages(hey, I should go to more art galleries, ha ha), to the images themselves which were displayed well, the Miller Gallery is top notch. I could only hope that one day some of my photography could grace its walls. There were a few couches for those needing a brief break from schmoozing, and there are additional rooms in the back with other artwork from various artists. I did a double take on a painting with a price tag of $ 65K. Wowzers! I’ll keep my eyes peeled for future exhibits and special events(made easy by subscribing to their email newsletter). *BTW, Tyler was surprisingly chatty and friendly with everyone. From his visit to a local high school(s?) to enjoying Greater’s Ice Cream, he’s the real deal, at least that night. He gave equal time to everyone. It was refreshing to talk to someone that hasn’t let the fact that he easily sold over $ 100K of his photos that night go to his head, or that he dates Clint Eastwood’s daughter.(Can you imagine their first meeting? Clint probably answered the door all Gran Torino style. ha ha!)

I like this gallery. I only have a small collection, but I like to look. The quality and wide range of art here is mind blowing. I travel a ton and like going to galleries everywhere. This one is surprising because it’s in a small cute shopping area not downtown and when you go in, it’s a world class gallery. Really great art from some pretty famous artists from everywhere. People here are nice too. It’s a bit disorganized and messy though. Not like the big loft places in NYC, but not pretentious either. Cute dog.

I had passed by here many times while shopping around the Hyde Park Square, but I hadn’t actually been in here until I attended an artist’s opening. This is a local gallery featuring many local artists. The works lean towards modern but there is also more traditional work like landscapes, still lifes and sculpture. The gallery has new artists opening semi-monthly to monthly. The price of the works can vary from the low thousands to well into five figures. Miller Gallery is probably for more serious collectors, but hey, at least it’s free to look.
