NorthSlice is the best pizza I’ve had in Cincinnati. When I moved here from the East Coast several years ago, I have been mystified by Cincinnatians’ love for LaRosa’s thin, doughy crust, sickeningly sweet sauce and puny square slices.(I respect the fact that you’re one of Cincinnati’s most beloved cuisines, LaRosa’s, but I just can’t hack your pizza.) I was happy when I discovered Dewey’s, but I’m a little over pizza so weighed down by 10 different gourmet toppings that it’s next to impossible to eat without a knife and fork. So I was thrilled when I found NorthSlice. I love the thin, crisp, herb-sprinkled crust; the big slices; the savory sauce; and the unmistakably fresh toppings, particularly the roasted mushrooms. I’ve never been disappointed, whether I’ve bought pizza by the slice or an entire pie(they’re now available in two sizes, 14 inch and 18 inch). And yes, you’re going to pay more than you would for pizza from a chain, but it’s totally worth it. I also highly recommend the salads, which are even better than Dewey’s award-winning salads, in my opinion(though considerably smaller). They taste as fresh as if they were made from stuff from your own garden, and the homemade creamy Italian and red wine vinaigrette dressings are amazingly good. Spring for the deluxe, which has romaine lettuce, field greens, roma tomatoes, carrots, roasted mushrooms, red onions, roasted red peppers, olives and banana peppers, plus a piece of crostini. My lone complaint about NorthSlice is that they’re not open on Sundays(not even Super Bowl Sunday!), but that’s not a big enough complaint for me to subtract a star.

Just moved to Northside last week and they are right down the street from our house. In the midst of renovating, they’ve provided a great, quick meal. Tried them twice, both times were absolutely delicious. Their crust is flavorful and like a good crusty bread. All of the toppings seem relatively fresh and they don’t skimp. We’ve done pick up and have never eaten in the restaurant, but both times they were ready to pick up in 15 minutes. It looks like they have a ton of delicious looking sides and salads, so that will be put on the agenda for next time. My only complaint would be the price, but for the quality of the pizza you’re getting, it’s actually not a bad deal. You just have to remember that this isn’t Papa John’s or Little Caesars.

Not gourmet but just what you are looking for late at night after a trip to Northside Tavern.

I’m always interested in a NY-style, thin crust pie, especially in Cincinnati where pizza is typically mediocre hand-tossed at best. When multiple friends told me I had to try Northslice, it quickly went to the top of my to-eat list. My first few tries where while under the influence of alcohol, which tends to make even the worst food taste divine. It tasted really good, albeit a tad greasy. I wanted to give it a fair shake though, so a few weeks ago for dinner, I ordered two large pepperoni pies to go. Entirely sober, the results were not as good. Overall, it was tasty, but not made with the care for which I was hoping. The texture of the crust was tough, as if the dough had been overworked or been left to raise too long. I could have overlooked that, but for me, the seasoning was the big miss. While I really like the subtle seasoned crust of Lucy Blue’s, Northslice took it too far. Their Italian herbs are tossed haphazardly on top of the pie, so plentiful that I almost couldn’t taste anything else. As much as I wanted to down a few slices, it was really easy to get burnt out on that bold flavor. In the end, Northslice is a still great place to stop for a slice if you’ve had a drink or two. It’s good, but a tad over-hyped. I’ll probably even order it again for dinner, but I will certainly be asking them to take it a little easier on the seasoning this time.

So I’ll admit, I think most people like pizza more than I do — which makes me even more excited when I find one that I really like. Northslice is definitely a quality pizza shop. With the choice of ordering a whole pie(which is serious at 18″) or by the slice, this place does not leave its customers hungry. They have a wide variety of toppings and even have a vegan option. The crust is garlickly and delicious. The place is bright and the staff is great.

I love NorthSlice. Now that I have discovered this Northside Gem, I eat it at least once a week. I experiment with their gourmet toppings, and I absolutely devour every crumb of their delicious, crispy, perfectly seasoned crusts… YUM! You cannot find a better pizza in this city, period. Not to thick, not too thin, just perfect. AND! Their homemade soups are to die for. They have a deli case with delicious pastas and yummy salads made with fresh mixed greens. My personal favorite sandwich is the mushroom sandwich(Swooon) and the french onion soup has me calling to find out when they’ll serve it next. The staff is friendly, and it all has that eclectic vibe that I’ve grown to love about Northside. A totally welcomed addition to the culinary scene. Hear, Hear!

Best pizza I’ve had in the two years I’ve lived in CIncinnati! Locally sourced ingredients put together artfully and with care combine to produce delicious pizza that is actually available late! Cincy has a dearth of late night options and these guys are open till 1:30AM /3AM on weekends! In addition the other offerings are excellent as well. I’ve become particularly fond of the soups, which are made fresh and are different everyday. Other places proclaim the excellence of their product(Pomodori’s for instance, whose door I will never darken again) but Northslice delivers on it better than any of them.

This pizza was next level great. Everyone I tried it with thoguht it was incredible except for one friend who said his pizza was good but luke-warm. Really like the use of herbs and spices in the crust and topping the cheese with basil. Really happy that there’s a new place offering vegan pizza in Cincinnati, even happier that they also do pizza by the slice.

Ok, NorthSlice Pizza, you impressed me. I wasn’t sure what to expect when I walked in. I’ve been through Northside many, many, many times, and seen the shop, but never stopped in — mostly because I’m there during the day and they’re open at night(way, way later into the night too! 1:30am on the weekends, 3am Friday to Saturday! Woah!) But the other night I had some time to kill before an event, and so, pizza it is! Entering is an experience. There’s the ordering counter right in front of you within a wide open kitchen behind it. You can see everyone hard at working, making those delicious pizzas. It’s really kind of cool to just watch them — and you’ll probably have to since there’s most likely a line and one person at the register. It moves pretty fast though, so no worries. To the left is a bright green room where you can sit and eat the pizza with giant graffiti monsters on the wall. It was awesome. I love the little touches about this place: the staff is really friendly. They have stupid little games on the counter to play with your pizza(like the peg jumping game where you’re trying to make there only be one peg left at the end), the pizza joint I went to in Massachusetts when I was little had those, and this sparked a wave of nostalgia so high I almost got choked up. Just things like that. And then there was food! It came relatively fast(I honestly didn’t even notice the wait) and it was good. Real good. I got pepperoni and a supreme and they were delicious. I wish they could have been a little bit warmer, but that’s because I like my pizza scalding hot. Not a big complaint, but just something I noticed. In fact, not a big enough complaint for me to give this spot anything less than 5 stars. It was just what I wanted out of a neighborhood pizza joint!

I just ate a slice of this, pretty damn good. i only had the cheese though. so I think I will have to add an addendum on this review later after i get a veg-slice… This is your typical thin crust, kinda greasy, extra cheesy-good pizza. What made the pizza unique however, is the crust appears to be brushed over with olive oil and basil, which was a lil’ delightful. Reasonably priced, 2.50 for a slice, i was kind of surprised that pies are 18, seemed a bit expensive. I guess i would have to see them, perhaps they are exceptionally huge. .The hours of this place kind of boost it to a 4 when it otherwise may be a 3 or so …, 1:30 on monday, 2 M-H, 3 F-Sa!!! Yes, that is what’s up. You do have to order through a window when it gets late, however, which kind of sucked just now because it is raining. The waitstaff was really fast and nice, we only waited for a minute or so. Considering pizza is typically made out of things vegans can not eat, it would probably be cool for them to go to Northslice and eat their vegan-pretend-cheese pizza.

I wanted this place to be better, but, while I’ve really enjoyed the slices on three separate visits, on two other occasions my pizza was either burnt or just not good. Consistency is a virtue. I think this business can(and probably will) do better. That said, when you’ve had a few beers at the Northside Tavern, sometimes it doesn’t matter.

If you want to know the measure of a pizza joint, just give the plain cheese pie a try. Now, whether you have weird tastebuds like me or are just a pizza purist, the proof of the pudding is under the crust, as far as I’m concerned, and NorthSlice’s is damn near perfect: just the right amount of crunch along the bottom but still foldably floppy, perfectly seasoned with a mix of herbs and spices. Atop that great crust you’ll find a delightful tomato sauce and a fresh cheese blend that’s also incredibly well-seasoned, and you’re pretty much good to go. All at a price that’s worth the drive, and at late night hours that many Queen City eateries seem to be lacking these days. Yes, they offer a wide selection of toppings both veggie and carnivorous for those vegan and beyond, and if you’re in the mood you can experiment, but the classic cheese here is really all you need. I love the old school vibe of hanging out in front of the window, chatting up the other customers in line, taking in the surrounding scenery. NorthSlice is not only a great spot to grab a quick bite and go, but a nice spot to pause and people-watch. The only things keeping this from being a five-star establishment for me are the limited hours(dinner and late night only, no lunch) and the lack of a dining room. According to the employee we talked to, both are expanding here in the very near future – and I can’t wait to go back to find out.

Fresh local veggies, handmade sausage, vegan options, great staff + Mexican cokes. This place replaced one of the worst pizza joints of all time(Portofino) and Northside is so much better for it! I eat here at least once a week, they even catered my rehearsal dinner. So good. Get the sauteed mushrooms, you’ll thank me. They use Daiya ‘cheese’ for you vegan folks interested.

Northslice is one of those restaurants that people just want to rally behind. Many know owner/operator Mike Aug from his nights the pizza windows at the old Gypsy Hut and Hideaway. This is his new place asnd it’s got what it takes. Mike thinks hard about pizza and his customers reap the benefits. His crust puts others to shame, the slices always have the perfect level of spice, and the ingredients are always fresh. Right now, it’s just a window, but when the dining room opens up, watch out: Northslice will truly be a destination restaurant.

When I heard NorthSlice was opening, we put up a post spreading the word. Northside shines on Independence Day weekend, and that’s when NorthSlice opened up. So far, they’ve been rocking the pizza window — no dining room just yet. We’ve had a chance to stop by for a few slices, and recently ordered a full pie. This pizza is worth driving across town for, but thankfully, we live right around the corner! The Food: The only thing we’ve had(the only thing they make thus far, I think), is pizza. Our classic order is pepperoni and green olives, and this time we got one half with cheese. What stands out about this pizza stands out right away — the freshness and flavor of the ingredients really pop. We were told before that they don’t cook the sauce, and the tomatoes are a bit tangy and sweet, very good. They go pretty light on the cheese and ingredients, which also leads to the sauce standing out. Plenty of fresh herbs on top of the pizza add to toppings we chose. Just as we’d been expecting, the crust is not too thick, not too thin. But because that crust is doused in herbs and salt and crunchy cornmeal, it has a nice crunch(especially around the edges) and a great taste. Overall, it comes together quite nicely. The Ingredients: When we spoke with Mike, the owner, initially, he talked about buying local ingredients, doing his own herb garden, and more. I’m not sure how that’s panned out so far. Next time I see him I’ll try to get some more info on how the sourcing is going. The Story, Setting, & Service: Read all about the story of NorthSlice in our original post. We’re excited that they appear to have gotten off to a good start, and are hopeful for more over time. As I mentioned above, it’s only a pizza window right now, but you can peek in at the graffiti walls and see the hip logo and know it’ll be a cool hang out some time soon. The owner is a really nice guy who has been a fixture in Northside for many, many years, and I’ve had nothing but smiles and kindness from the other folks I’ve encountered so far. The Last Bite: This is definitely the best pizza in Northside. It’s true that it is more expensive than NYPD, but the quality is simply far better. Whether you’re stopping by for a quick slice mid-day or late-night, or ordering a whole pizza for dinner, you won’t be disappointed by the fresh flavors at NorthSlice. For convenience plus taste, this has clearly moved into our number one ranking for pizza in Cincinnati. Check the menu in the slideshow below.

I’m going to agree with everyone so far. The pizza is just great. The crust is so delicious. The large grain salt(sea or kosher, probably) makes the difference on the pies I’ve had so far, most notably the Veggie. The dough has a slight yeasty tang with a superb chewy garlicky bite. It really is a savory delight. The gents working the counter(no dine-in…yet) are affable and quick with a joke. They also carry some really swell bevs, like Mexican Coke, Vernor’s Ginger Ale, and Dr. Brown’s sodas. Prices vary from individual slices from about $ 2.50−3.25 and up to about 21 or so for a large 8 slice pie. Hours are after 5 until 2:30am or so.
