Searching for a dive bar on the West Side? Look no further than Off Kilt’r Pub! Off Kilt’r opened at the end of 2010, and features a blue collar atmosphere, but is cleaner than the stereotypical dive bar. The inside is very spacious with a couple of tables, pool table, and shuffleboard table. On Mondays, there are no charges for the games. The bar area is very long and the staff serves up a variety of drinks. Guinness is widely advertised here, but the patrons mainly seem to be Budweiser drinkers. There is a full bar, so mixed drinks are on tap as well. The lighting in the bar is good — not too dark, not overly bright. Also outside, there is a roped off area with a bonfire. There are also special entertainment nights at Off Kilt’r: Monday: DJ music and karaōke, free pool games Thursday: DJ music and karaōke, Ladies Night Weekends: 5 for $ 10 beer buckets The karaōke is a lot of fun, mainly because there are usually only one or two people in queue, so you get lots of turns. However, the selection is limited and the DJ does not have a book of songs. He insisted that he had any kind of tune I could imagine in his library. It took me six tries to find a song I wanted.(If you like hip-hop, you won’t have this problem.) Most of the DJ music is hip hop, with a few Dropkick Murphys songs(for pub atmosphere), and some country. This bar can get pretty loud; don’t plan on having a vivid conversation here. For attire, plan on wearing jeans and a nice shirt, or a modest skirt with leggings for the ladies. Off Kilt’r attracts a casual crowd, so no need to dress to impress. All in all, Off Kilt’r is a fun, simple place to grab a drink, a friend, and do some dancing and karaōke.
