I love this place. I love it so much that I’ve started a Monday Night Jazz Jam Session(for dates, see ). When I originally brought my equipment out, I thought, «Am I some kind of insane dork?» But when we started playing among the kids, dogs, and ducks, I realized my idea was pure genius. Bring your instrument(full pa provided, including vocal mic) or a picnic blanket. We’ll try to have food each time. You can even take a walk on the trail and listen to the music!

Pioneer Park is unique compared to its fellow Montgomery parks in that it is more«outdoorsy.» How can that be, aren’t all parks outdoors? Well, yes, but Pioneer Park differs because it is less about playing sports, exercising and having picnics then it is about actually enjoying nature. While its two baseball fields and soccer field, as well as the opportunity of playing many games such as football or ultimate Frisbee, there is more of a «natural area.» In fact, Pioneer Park is the largest in the Montgomery system, despite having less of the common park features. There is a pond with a little boardwalk where non-fishers can try their hand at fishing, a large area of grass and a meadow of wildflowers, and there is a grove of native trees. A gazebo-deck combination is a very nice feature at this park. My group had prom photos taken there once, and it can also be a place for other great photo opportunities and small events. Don’t forget the walking trail either, which is especially nice due to the surrounding nature. Pioneer Park’s distinctive features make it yet another nice attraction in Montgomery.
