Weller Park

Last weekend, we stumbled across this park just off Montgomery Road on our way back from Mason. The kids needed somewhere to stretch there legs, and this was perfect.
Like most Montgomery city parks, Weller is well manicured, a touch rustic, and has a wonderful playground area. You could tell it was a community-​oriented park, as there was a friendly flow of families of all shapes and sizes here. The athletic fields were very active, as well.
The only off-​putting thing was that garbage cans at the park were entirely uncovered. This time of year, bees (yellow jackets in particular) are a huge problem with open trash around. A park this nice should surely be able to invest in better receptacles.
It was a bit cold during our stop, but this would be a great park to take a picnic to come spring!

Montgomery has a ton of parks, but maybe the best is Weller Park. Although it isn’t too scenic like Montgomery’s Swaim Park, save for the nice backdrop of the large Reserve of Montgomery homes, Weller is the best around for recreational purposes.
Weller Park has four tennis courts, two full-​court concrete basketball courts, a three-​quarter mile walking/​running/​biking path, three soccer and baseball fields, and even two sand volleyball courts and a batting cage. Throughout the spring and the summer, people always make it over to the park in the late afternoon and early evening, while in the fall it is a good location for youth soccer games.
Another great and popular feature is the playground area. It’s new, safe, and very enjoyable for kids and their parents. Weller Park also has two shelter areas, one best for taking a quick break from a physical activity and to relax, and the other for holding picnics and graduation parties. You can do a little grilling and set up some corn hole or other games too.
From everything it offers, Weller Park is my favorite local park, and it’s also in a great neighborhood and very safe too. Whether it’s to play a pickup game of soccer or basketball, just to ride your bike through, or to hold a family outing at, Weller Park can meet all your needs.
