You’d never know Prairie Gallery was there unless you already had an invitation to an event… which is sad, because it’s really fantastic. This tucked-away gallery in North Side is above Take the Cake Café, and the entrance is right next door. You walk up a long flight of stairs to get into a gallery with walls so bright white it takes you a second for your eyes to adjust. What strikes you after that, though, is the art. Prairie is always changing up it’s exhibits(once every two months or so) and they’re always fascinating — and most of the time local. I know they like to focus on an artist right here in town and showcase his or her work — either as a solo show or through a group exhibit. And they’re really interesting stuff too — stuff about pop-culture, food, animals, people, local buildings, technology. It’s worth it to check it out. I recently learned they also do photo classes there throughout the year, so if you’re ever interested in learning more about cameras and how to use them, give this place a call. I wish more people knew about this space, but then again, it might loose some of it’s funky coolness if they did.
